    Teachers offered $2000 sign-on bonus as Labor fights to stop third strike

    Victorian educators would get a $2000 bonus with the signing of a pay and conditions offer from the government, as the new education minister attempts to avoid statewide school strikes planned for next Wednesday.

    Teacher, principal and education support staff salaries would still rise by at least 28.3 per cent over the next four years as per the previous offer, but those at the top of their salary bands would receive a 1 per cent annual lump-sum payment, plus the one-off payment at the start of the new agreement.

    Existing face-to-face teaching hour maximums of 18.5 hours for secondary teachers and 21 hours for primary teachers would also be secured in the agreement, not in a deed, under the new offer.

    ANZ offering $2000 to mortgage customers about to jump ship

    ANZ is offering cash payments and other sweeteners to customers on the verge of switching their mortgages to rival lenders, as a competition war erupts between the major banks.

    Mortgage brokers say ANZ, which is lagging the other major banks in the home lending market, is offering borrowers retention payments – typically $2000 – once they have submitted discharge paperwork. To retain customers, the bank is also offering fee waivers and discounts on competitors’ rates of between 15 and 20 basis points.

    WiseTech Global will cut roughly 2000 staff – nearly a third of its 7000-strong workforce – over the next two years as chief executive Zubin Appoo bets the logistics software giant’s future on artificial intelligence.

    Some teams face headcount reductions of up to 50 per cent, starting with product development and customer service, including recently acquired US platform e2open.

    The restructure comes amid a steep sell-off across traditional software companies, from Atlassian to Adobe, driven by fears that AI-powered coding tools will allow upstarts to rapidly replicate services that took incumbents years to build.

    HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – It was a wet start to the Aloha Friday with severe weather for parts of Kauai and Oahu.

    There was even a rare tornado warning issued for Ni’ihau around 6:40 a.m.

    Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Honolulu noticed alarming activity on the radar, including intense circulation. They say the factors were all there for a tornado to spawn.

    “Several of us here on the floor just got together and decided that this warranted a tornado warning and we’ll never know what happened. It came across a part of the island that’s very low habitation, but we’re pretty confident it probably had a tornado, especially right when it came on shore,” Meteorologist Stephen Parker said.

    A rare tornado warning was issued early Friday morning for the island of Niʻihau as a strong storm system moved across the western end of the Hawaiian Islands, prompting officials to urge residents to seek shelter and remain alert.

    The warning was precautionary. It ran through 7 a.m., and no reports came in of confirmed tornado damage on the sparsely populated island near Kauaʻi.
