Major rule change coming to Wordle

Wordlers, your favorite game just changed the rules: As of Monday, February 2, previously-played words may be reused.

"Hey, Wordlers! We have some exciting news to share," the New York Times stated in its Gameplay newsletter on January 28, according to Tom's Guide. "Starting on Monday, we will begin adding previously run words back into play."

Rest assured, though, that answers may still be new words. "There are still many first-time answers to debut, but also more chances for Wordle in ones and those magical, serendipitous moments when Wordle overlaps with real life," the statement continued. "Happy solving!"

Now that old words are back in play, there are many more options for game creators to choose from. This will likely change how Wordlers play, especially those who participate every day. But such is the case with this five-letter word: CHANGE.

AO 2026 Day 13 preview: Men’s semis in the spotlight

Just two men stand to foil Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s pursuit of a 15-year first at Melbourne Park on Friday when the top four seeds square off in the semifinals of Australian Open 2026.

Not since Novak Djokovic denied Rafael Nadal for three of the four Slams from Wimbledon 2011 to Roland Garros 2012 have two rivals contested four successive major finals between them.

Why Australian Open men’s semifinals with top four seeds still feel one-sided – The Athletic

The Athletic has live coverage of the 2026 Australian Open women’s singles final between Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina.

MELBOURNE, Australia — For the first time in 13 years, the top four men’s seeds have made it to the Australian Open semifinals. The last time that happened at the majors was the 2019 French Open, and after nearly seven years, two closely matched, tense semifinals between the four best players await.

The reality is that as long as the top two seeds are there, their opponents have become something close to an irrelevance. Describing Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, and Alexander Zverev, generally accepted to be the best men’s player never to have won a major, in this way may seem harsh, but that is the extent of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s dominance over the past two years.

Australian Open 2026: Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner face Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic in semi-finals

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have split the past eight Grand Slam titles between them

Going into the Australian Open, few people predicted anything other than Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner meeting again in the men's final.

The pair have contested the past three Grand Slam title matches – Alcaraz winning the French Open and US Open, with Sinner claiming Wimbledon in between – as their rivalry continues to grow.

Now only Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic can prevent the dominant duo meeting in the Melbourne showpiece for the first time.

Spanish world number one Alcaraz plays German third seed Zverev in Friday's first semi-final at 14:30 local time (03:30 GMT), followed by Italian second seed Sinner facing Serb fourth seed Djokovic.

Thunder 104-95 Pelicans (Jan 27, 2026) Game Recap

OKLAHOMA CITY — — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 29 points and the short-handed Oklahoma City Thunder beat the New Orleans Pelicans 104-95 on Tuesday night to avoid their first three-game skid of the season.

Chet Holmgren had 20 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks for NBA-best Oklahoma City (38-10), which had lost back-to-back home games for the first time this season. Isaiah Joe added 17 points.

The Thunder were missing starters Jalen Williams, Isaiah Hartenstein and Cason Wallace and key reserve Alex Caruso with injuries.

Gilgeous-Alexander shot 8 of 22 from the field but went 13 of 14 from the foul line. He scored at least 20 points for the 118th consecutive game, the second-longest streak in NBA history.

Thunder vs Pelicans highlights: Lu Dort, OKC topple Jeremiah Fears, New Orleans

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the OKC Thunder will host Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans at 7 p.m. CST Tuesday.

OKC (37-10) fell short in a 103-101 home loss to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday. New Orleans (12-36) earned a 104-95 road win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.

Zion Williamson is a bruising forward. Trey Murphy III is a versatile scorer. Derik Queen is a skilled big man. And even Saddiq Bey is playing the best basketball of his career, averaging 20 points this month on 44.1% shooting from deep. New Orleans is a bigger threat than its 12-36 record implies, which it proved by earning a statement road win over San Antonio on Sunday. But this also feels like a statement game for OKC. A chance to show it can still win despite being extremely short-handed. And I think it'll deliver with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the way offensively and the defense still playing at its usual elite level.

It’s flat as a tack inside Rod Laver Arena right now, only the seagulls and Elena Rybakina seem happy with the way of things.

Rybakina is serving for a 4-2 lead and she is closing in on victory.

Stick the Stars and Stripes across the net from Jessica Pegula and she elevates her game to another level.

Pegula advanced to the Australian Open semifinals for the first time after comfortably eclipsing fellow American Anna Anisimova 6-2 7-6(1) on Wednesday.

It marked the New York-born Pegula’s 14th win in her past 15 meetings against American opponents, continuing a remarkable run of domestic dominance.

Australian Open 2026 quarter-finals: Pegula beats Anisimova after Rybakina stuns Swiatek – as it happened

Unforced errors killed Anisimova in that opening set, the fourth seed committing 13 compared to Pegula’s six. The sixth seed also fired down six aces to her foe’s one, as well as sent down twelve winners to eight.

Jessica Pegula* (6) 6-2 Amanda Anisimova (4) New balls are delivered Pegula steps up to serve for the set. And she starts things off well with an ace.

The frustration on Anisimova is evident when she hits a backhand into the net to fall further behind but gets a lifeline when Pegula double faults. The fourth seed presses forward and fires down a big backhand return to level things and then gets a break point when Pegula drags a forehand wide.

Australian Jason Kubler has said teammate Marc Polmans carried him throughout their semi-final win and that he’ll use a day off on Friday to “shake those cobwebs” before their semi-final on Saturday night.

Polmans’ exceptional shot-making to break serve in the third set propelled the pair past Jan Zielinski and Luke Johnson and into the final.

“Unbelievable. Far out her carried me today,” Kubler said after the match, while Polmans shook his head modestly.

With breaks going both ways in the final set, Polmans in particular stood up, as the pair went on to take the match 6-3 in a little under two hours on Rod Laver Arena.

Australian Open 2026: Iva Jovic & Victoria Mboko – doubles partners leading teen disruptors

Iva Jovic (left) and Victoria Mboko will meet in the quarter-finals if they win their fourth-round ties

If the men's draw at the Australian Open has belonged to the veterans, the women's has been a celebration of youth – with teenagers Victoria Mboko and Iva Jovic reaching the second week of a major for the first time in their fledgling careers.

After dropping just 12 games across her previous two matches, 17th seed Mboko came through a tight three-set encounter with Danish 14th seed Clara Tauson. The 19-year-old's reward is a date with world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the last 16.

Teenagers stun at Aus Open as World No.1 pushed and divisive star bundled out

Teenagers Iva Jovic and Victoria Mboko are the talk of the tennis world after Mboko produced an 'incredible' fight against Aryna Sabalenka and Jovic sent Yulia Putintseva packing from the Australian Open on Sunday. The 18-year-old Jovic destroyed Putintseva with a 6-0 6-1 thrashing, sending the divisive star home in just 53 minutes.

It came after Putintseva divided opinion with her response to what she described as 'disrespectful' treatment from fans in her previous win over Zeynep Sönmez. The Kazakh player danced in front of vocal Turkish fans – who then booed her relentlessly during an on-court interview – after Putintseva said they'd been trying to put her off throughout the match.
