With another haul of medals from the pool, Australia has widened the lead on the medal tally with a total of 17 gold medals, nine silver and 13 bronze.
Cam McEvoy became the first person to swim 50m under 21 seconds twice and Lani Pallister became the first to win the women’s 1500m freestyle race at a Commonwealth Games. Cam McEvoy enhanced his status as one of the greatest sprint swimmers of all time and ticked off the last vacant box on his remarkable resume by claiming a gold medal in the men’s 50m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
And Australia’s younger contingent of swimmers also well and truly showed the sport’s future in the country is in great hands on another day which netted five finals victories, with WA’s Iona Anderson and son-of-a-gun Kai Taylor among the emerging stars to deliver stunning performances.
On the third day of proceedings at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, all eyes were on McEvoy.
