Stephen Colbert's iconic 'Late Show' sign has a new home

Correction & clarification: A prior version of this story misstated the original location of the iconic "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" sign.

The iconic "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" sign has found an unlikely second act, this time atop a restaurant in West Hollywood.

The illuminated interior sign from the show, which appeared inside New York City's Ed Sullivan Theater throughout Colbert's nearly 11-year run as host, was purchased at auction earlier this year and now sits on the rooftop of WeHo Bistro. The restaurant announced the acquisition in a Monday, June 29, Instagram post, saying it wanted the sign to remain on public display after learning that proceeds from the auction would benefit humanitarian nonprofit World Central Kitchen. WeHo Bistro confirmed to USA TODAY that the sign it acquired is not from the Ed Sullivan Theater's exterior marquee.

Colbert’s 'Late Show' Sign Lands at West Hollywood Restaurant

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert may be gone from the Ed Sullivan Theater, but one sizable piece of it has officially made the trip west.

The massive lighted Late Show sign that sold at auction in April has a new home: WeHo Bistro in West Hollywood.

The restaurant’s owner, Jeff Douek, revealed he was the winning bidder Monday, sharing photos and videos of the 12′ x 8’6″ x 9″ sign being delivered and installed on the restaurant’s rooftop. Draped beneath it was a banner reading, “Thank you Stephen Colbert for all the magic.”

“For more than a decade, millions of people welcomed Stephen Colbert into their evenings through The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Douek wrote in the restaurant’s Instagram post announcing the sign’s arrival. “The iconic sign that welcomed viewers to so many unforgettable nights has now found a new home right here in the heart of West Hollywood.”
