    The Philadelphia 76ers will need a powerful Game 2 response to invite suspense in their first-round series with the Boston Celtics.

    They don’t necessarily need to win Tuesday (7 ET, Peacock/NBC Sports), but simply make it a four-quarter game and the last few minutes meaningful.

    None of that happened in Game 1, won breezily by Boston, and now the Sixers have logic against them along with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. And logic might be more powerful because it plants a seed of doubt.

    Embiid has missed 11 straight games but coach Nick Nurse said he has been making progress.

    Justin Edwards and Quentin Grimes have played a whole lot of March basketball together over the last two years.

    If there is one feeling that has persisted throughout the 2025-26 Sixers season, it is volatility. Signs of major promise have been routinely followed up by devastating crashes back down to harsh realities, and vice versa.

    So, it was only fitting that after suffering an embarrassing wire-to-wire loss at the hands of the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, the shorthanded Sixers notched an emphatic 139-118 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Thursday.     BOSTON — — Neemias Queta scored a career-high 27 points and added 17 rebounds to help the Boston Celtics recover from a slow start and rally to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 114-98 on Sunday night.

    Jaylen Brown added 27 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, and Derrick White finished with 21 points and eight assists as the Celtics became the fourth team to reach 40 victories. They have won six of seven.

    It was the 11th double-double of the season for Queta, who also had three blocks. He has three double-doubles — with at least two blocks in each — over his last five games.

    Philadelphia cut what was a 16-point lead by Boston in the second half to 103-97 with just over four minutes to play. But Queta scored Boston’s next eight points to put the Celtics in front 111-98 and help close it out.

    Celtics Notes: Queta, Scheierman, Tatum, Vucevic

    Celtics starting center Neemias Queta recently detailed his journey as the NBA’s first (and only) player from Portugal in an interview with Marc J. Spears of Andscape. Queta’s parents moved to Portugal from their native Guinea-Bissau due to the civil war that took place in the West African country in the late 1990s, Spears writes.

    Queta has never been to Guinea-Bissau or to Africa, but he hopes to visit his parents’ home country with his mother “in the next couple of years.”

    “They were in kind of like a refugee type of situation. It was more trying to get to that safe place and Port Portugal welcomed them,” Queta said.

    Denver Nuggets Find Amazing Way to Deal with Glut of Injuries

    Rarely has any NBA team had to endure the kind of flood of key injuries that the Denver Nuggets are in the middle of dealing with right now.

    When they tipped off the sixth game of a seven-game eastern road trip against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday, the Nuggets were missing their entire starting five, plus their leading scorer off the bench (Tim Hardaway Jr.) and their only backup center (Jonas Valančiūnas.)

    But this is sports…and somehow, some way…the skeleton crew the Nuggets rolled out on the floor defeated the 76ers 125-124 in overtime. Really.

    Nuggets head coach David Adelman had nine healthy players available against the Sixers, and used all of them, including two-way player Curtis Jones.
