Aussies Abroad: Olbrich records historic triple-double

Australian Lachlan Olbrich has finished his maiden NBA season in historic fashion on Monday AEST.

During Chicago’s 149-139 loss to the Mavericks in Dallas, the NBL25 champion tallied 10 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists and 2 steals.

In doing so, the big man becomes the fourth rookie in franchise history to post a triple-double, joining Michael Jordan, Jay Williams and Kirk Hinrich.

This was Olbrich’s second-straight start, after making his maiden start against Orlando on Saturday AEST.

Elsewhere, Joe Ingles and Rocco Zikarsky helped the Minnesota Timberwolves defeat the New Orleans Pelicans 132-126.

In the victory, starter Ingles posted 15 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block, while the former Brisbane Bullets Next Star added 8 points, 9 boards, 2 dimes and 2 blocks.

Lachlan Olbrich makes franchise history as rookie milestone lands in Chicago

Lachlan Olbrich has entered a rare lane in Chicago history after becoming the fourth rookie in franchise history to post a triple-double, per Bulls public relations. That places lachlan olbrich alongside Michael Jordan, Jay Williams and Kirk Hinrich in a short list that underscores how uncommon the feat is for a first-year player. The milestone comes as Chicago closes its regular season with Olbrich available for Sunday’s game against the Mavericks.

The franchise note is the headline development: Olbrich is now the fourth rookie in team history to record a triple-double. The named company matters here, because the list includes three players with established places in Chicago basketball history — Jordan, Williams and Hinrich — making the rookie achievement stand out immediately.

Aussies Abroad: Giddey fills the stat sheet again

How to watch & talking points: SE Melbourne v Adelaide (Playoffs, Game 2)

Another day, another regular-season Josh Giddey double-double and another Chicago defeat as their push for the NBA playoffs continues to go in reverse.

Just days after recording his 28th career triple-double, the Australian guard tallied 27 points, eight rebounds and 15 assists for double-double number 107 in just his fifth NBA season.

The 23-year-old's performance wasn't enough to get the Bulls over the line in Los Angeles though, going down 142-130 to the Lakers on Thursday (Friday AEDT).

Luka Doncic had 51 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists for the home side, while Austin Reaves chipped in with 30 points.

Don't Forget Josh Giddey Also Had a Career-High for the Bulls And Even Made History

Matas Buzelis stole the show on Tuesday night in San Francisco, but he couldn't have done it without his lead guard.

As important as the second-year forward has become for the organization, Josh Giddey isn't trailing far behind. The 23-year-old inked a four-year, $100 million deal with the franchise this past summer. And, despite what the record might suggest, it feels safe to say he has lived up to that lofty number in more ways than one.

Earlier this week, we discussed Giddey's continued growth behind the arc. He has fixed his most glaring weakness by shooting an encouraging 37+ percent from downtown for a second consecutive year. However, while the improved scoring ability is essential to becoming a true core piece of a winning team, there is no doubt that his court vision will forever be his greatest attribute.

Giddey’s rapid rise continues with legend in his scopes; superstar’s full-court stunner: NBA Wrap

Michael Jordan may be the greatest of all time, but he could soon be usurped in a major stat by Australian star Josh Giddey, who has now moved up to second spot on the list of most triple-doubles by Chicago Bulls players.

A triple-double is when a player cracks triple digits in three major stats categories – points, rebounds and assists – with Giddey moving past Bulls legend Scottie Pippen into second spot on Monday (AEDT).

It was the 16th time Giddey had achieved the feat for the Bulls franchise, with the 23-year-old scoring 15 points to go with 12 rebounds and 10 assists in his side’s 126-110 loss to the Kings.

Aussies Abroad: Green guides Hornets past Bulls

Josh Green has grabbed Aussie bragging rights over Josh Giddey as his Charlotte Hornets pummelled the reshaped and slumping Chicago Bulls.

Green scored 11 points coming off the bench for the Hornets in 131-99 drubbing administered in Chicago on Tuesday night – the hosts' 10th straight loss, matching their longest slide since January 2019.

Bulls starter Giddey managed just eight points on 3-11 shooting, to go with his seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.

After some major roster changes in the recent trade period, the Bulls (24-35) committed 19 turnovers and now sit a lowly 12th in the Eastern Conference.

Brandon Miller scored 23 points, Kon Knueppel added 21 for the Hornets (28-31) as they claimed a team record eighth-straight road win.

Are Miles Bridges and Moussa Diabate playing tonight?

The Charlotte Hornets bounced back from a brief two-game losing streak their last time out against the Washington Wizards, as LaMelo Ball scored 37 points in a franchise record performance.

Entering Tuesday night's game in Chicago against the Bulls, the Hornets will finally have a chance to see their roster at full-strength.

For starters, Coby White has been cleared to make his Hornets debut against his former club after dealing with a calf strain since being acquired for Collin Sexton.

Additionally, the Hornets will get two of their starters back from suspension, after missing the last four games.

Both Moussa Diabate and Miles Bridges were suspended four games for their involvement in an altercation earlier this season against the Detroit Pistons.

Bulls' Matas Buzelis: Logs career highs in loss

Buzelis posted 32 points (13-19 FG, 6-11 3Pt), seven rebounds, two assists and one steal across 33 minutes during Tuesday's 131-99 loss to the Hornets.

Buzelis turned in an impressive performance in this one, racking up a game- and career-high 32 points. The second-year forward also knocked down at least six triples for the second time this season and has made at least three three-pointers in four of his last six outings. The 21-year-old also set a career high in field-goal attempts, and while consistency has been somewhat of an issue on the offensive end, he should continue to see plenty of shots falling his way as the Bulls prioritize their youth movement the rest of the campaign.
