‘Don’t pay Gatto, don’t get access’: Leaks expose companies with gangland figure on payroll

A two-year attempted clean-up of Victoria’s Big Build has failed to stop large sums of money flowing from state and federally funded projects to the underworld. Payments are still being made this year.

An explosive leak from an associate of Mick Gatto exposes his secret empire, revealing a sprawling and continuing money trail from Big Build subcontractors to the gangland veteran and his associates. More than a dozen subcontractors on Labor projects have placed Gatto on their payroll.

The revelations come amid a separate leak revealing principal contractors confidentially documented state government directions to cave in to the CFMEU’s lawless takeover of the Big Build. The CFMEU’s Big Build takeover became entrenched while now Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan was minister responsible for the government’s signature $100 billion infrastructure program.

From big house to Big Build: CFMEU chief’s courtroom plea for violent contractor exposed

The union boss greenlighted by the Victorian Labor government to wield huge control over the Big Build vouched in court for a major drug trafficker on two separate occasions before installing him at the helm of a major Big Build firm – only for the criminal to be busted and jailed again.

The support provided by the CFMEU’s now former boss on the Big Build, Joe Myles, to criminal Wayne “Junior” Carter has emerged as a case study of how criminals infiltrated Labor’s signature infrastructure scheme.

Queensland court records uncovered by this masthead reveal that on two occasions, in 2012 and then again in 2020, Myles provided court character references for Carter as the prolific drug trafficker prepared to be jailed for serious crimes, including an eight-year sentence for trafficking dangerous drugs.

‘Offensive and unlawful’: Big Build contractors slapped as ex-watchdogs back royal commission

Victoria’s top labour hire cop has launched an unprecedented attack on the state’s Big Build mega-contractors, saying they are the head of the rotting fish that is the state’s corruption-plagued construction sector and declaring that legal holes mean they get away with appalling wrongdoing.

Labour Hire Commissioner Steve Dargavel’s extraordinary comments came as two respected former top anti-corruption officials issued a damning joint assessment of Premier Jacinta Allan’s failure to clean up the infrastructure scheme she presided over for years as minister.

Former ombudsman Deborah Glass and ex-senior judge and former chief of the Independent Broad-based Anti-Corruption Commission Robert Redlich said an urgent royal commission was the only remedy that would adequately confront corruption on the government’s signature $109 billion Big Build infrastructure program.

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic says it has been ordered by the US government to suspend foreigners' access to some of its advanced AI models.

The US government restrictions cite national security concerns over the AI models Fable 5 and Mythos 5.

The news comes a day after a coalition of US state attorneys-general opened a sweeping investigation into OpenAI.

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has taken its most advanced AI models offline after it was ordered by the US government to suspend access for all foreign nationals.

Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI suspended over security fears

Anthropic has suspended its powerful new AI model after US authorities raised security concerns just days following its public release.

In a statement published on its website, Anthropic said it was ordered to suspend foreign nationals from using Claude Fable 5, a program that the company self-described as "too powerful".

"The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance," the company wrote.

Anthropic and the Trump administration are involved in a separate ongoing lawsuit over an order to stop government agencies using the company's AI tools. The BBC has approached the US Department of Commerce for comment.

007 First Light Early Access: How To Play Before The Release Date

The early access period for 007 First Light isn't quite as early as some titles. In fact, it's just 24 hours. However, early is early, and the way to get started on May 26 rather than May 27 is pretty simple.

A simple digital pre-order of the Deluxe Edition on PS5, Xbox Series X/S or PC will do the trick. Here are the details and everything you'll get if you go the pre-order route.

The path to early access is the same across every digital storefront: pre-order the game and your copy unlocks on May 26 instead of May 27. Thankfully, there's no separate "Ultimate" tier gatekeeping the head start, which is unusual for a modern release.

"If we made a Bond where no one had any opinions on them, it would be the dullest Bond ever made" – 007: First Light studio reacts to suggestion its Bond is too smug

IO Interactive, the Danish game studio known mostly for its Hitman series, has said it expects and even welcomes controversy about the James Bond character it has created for 007: First Light. This Bond – played by Irish actor Patrick Gibson – is a new, younger take, and will chart the character's rise from soldier to 00 agent.

Therefore, the smugness and bravado some people find abrasive: IOI says it's intentional. Bond's lopsided smirk, seen over and again in marketing material for the game, displays the arrogance of youth – Bond's naivety. It's a smile perfectly positioned to be wiped away over the course of the game.

That’s because 007 First Light has made its way into Fanatical’s current Mystery Egg Bundle offer.

It’s an offer we’ve highlighted before, but 007 First Light appears to be a new addition.

Essentially, the offer is a lucky dip for PC users with AAA game codes up for grabs.

Subnautica 2 dev says the delay actually had a silver lining

The underwater exploration game was supposed to be released last summer

Subnautica 2 is set to launch in early access next month on May 14. It comes after a long and messy pre-release period, including the firing of executives, a legal battle over a prospective $250 million payout, a reinstated CEO, and a release window announcement before that CEO could properly review the game.

Part of that mess was a delay — in July 2025 Krafton pushed back Subnautica 2’s early access release when it fired several Unknown Worlds Entertainment executives. Ousted Unknown Worlds co-founder and director Charlie Cleveland was one of the executives let go. At the time he argued Subnautica 2 was ready to launch. “We know that the game is ready for early access release and we know you’re ready to play it. And while we thought this was going to be our decision to make, at least for now, that decision is in Krafton’s hands,” he wrote in a post on Reddit.

From the President: April 19, 2026

I know Elijah Hollands has been front of mind for so many of us connected to the Carlton Football Club.

Elijah's welfare is what matters most right now, and please be assured that remains our focus.

Since the game, the Board has been working closely with Chief Executive Officer Graham Wright and General Manager of Football Chris Davies to obtain a thorough account of the circumstances both leading into and throughout the match. The Club has been in regular consultation with the AFL and AFLPA, and will continue to do so, as facts are gathered in a supportive and respectful setting, and we are confident that valuable learnings will come from this process.

Belgrade 2026: Greece, Croatia, Italy and Romania make it two wins from two after day four action

Croatia, Greece, Italy and Romania maintained their perfect records in Belgrade with back-to-back wins at the European Championships on Tuesday. Croatia opened proceedings by sweeping Georgia aside, Greece powered past Slovenia, Italy beat a stubborn and determined Slovakia, while Romania had to fight back from 5-9 down against Türkiye to claim the three points. There was plenty to celebrate inside the arena, as the victories guaranteed all four teams a place in the second group stage.

The Georgians managed to take the lead and also to make life difficult for the Croats – at least in the first eight minutes. Starting at lunchtime wasn’t much to the favourites’ palate and they needed some time to gear up.Once they found their rhythm, however, the game became rather similar to one-way traffic. The Croats didn’t only make the Georgians’ life difficult, but with their tough and aggressive defending, they completely killed their rivals’ attack.

Croatia thrash Turkey to edge closer to semi-finals at European Water Polo Championship

The Barakude controlled the match from the opening sprint, leaving no room for surprise as they confirmed their status as clear favourites.
