Trump administration finalizes better-than-feared Medicare Advantage payment rate in boost to health insurers

The Trump administration on Monday finalized a 2027 payment rate increase to privately run Medicare plans that was far bigger than initially proposed, a boost to health insurer stocks.

The government will increase average Medicare Advantage payments by 2.48%, or more than $13 billion, in 2027, according to a release from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The Trump administration in January proposed a payment rate hike of 0.09%, which pummeled shares of insurers that run those plans.

Shares of UnitedHealth and CVS Health rose more than 9% in after-hours trading on Monday. Meanwhile, Humana's stock jumped around 12%.

"Medicare Advantage and Part D should work for the people who rely on them," said CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz in a release. "These updates keep coverage affordable and ensure patients get real value from their plans."

A 15-point peace plan has been offered to Iran by intermediaries from Pakistan, as US President Donald Trump plans to deploy more troops to the Middle East.

It's expected that any talks between Iran and the US would face huge challenges, with it not being clear who in Iran's government has the authority to negotiate.

Pakistan says it is ready to facilitate "meaningful and conclusive talks" to end the Iran war.

The Trump administration has offered a 15-point ceasefire plan to Iran as the US military prepares to call up at least 1,000 more troops to supplement the 50,000 already in the Middle East.

Iran rejects US 15-point peace plan, state media reports

Iran has rejected US President Donald Trump's 15-point plan to end the war, according to state-run Press TV.

It cited an unknown "senior political-security official" laying out five of Tehran's own conditions to bring the conflict to an end, including paying reparations for damage.

They bear no resemblance to Trump's proposals, published by Israel's Channel 12 network after US officials had confirmed their existence. They include Iran committing not to build nuclear weapons and to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

The war began on 28 February with US and Israeli air strikes, after which Iran widened hostilities by targeting American allies in the Gulf.

Iran rejects ceasefire plan as more US troops head to the Middle East

New York: The United States is preparing to send thousands more troops to the Middle East even as it alluded to progress in peace talks with Iran and President Donald Trump heralded a “very big present” purportedly received as a goodwill gesture from Iranian negotiators.

On another day of mixed signals as the war approached its four-week mark, Trump said Iran wanted to make a deal “so badly” and confirmed that he was now interested in a ceasefire – a turnaround from just days earlier.

It also emerged that the US had delivered to Iran – through intermediaries – a 15-point peace plan that largely mirrored previous Trump administration demands of Tehran, before potential in-person talks as soon as this week.
