Aussie drops $17,500 on airport billboard as Budget tax backlash builds: 'Aren't being listened to'

Politicians will be flying into the nation’s capital this morning as Parliament begins a new sitting week. And Joseph Daoud has a big message for them.

The founder of a mortgage brokerage firm has paid to erect a billboard outside the airport, as well messages on digital surfaces inside the terminal, criticising the Budget changes to capital gains tax that extend beyond housing, to increase taxes on share investors and businesses.

“Investing in shares? Saving a deposit? Building a business? Your ambition will be taxed under proposed CGT changes,” the billboard reads.

Politicians flying into Canberra on Monday for the sitting week or budget estimates will be welcomed by 18 conspicuous billboards with the same message: “Stop the ambition tax.”

Joseph Daoud, founder of mortgage broker It’s Simple Finance, has bought $17,500 worth of digital billboards inside and outside Canberra Airport that went live after midnight on Sunday morning and will stay up until the end of this sitting week.

The Albanese government has been trolled by a business founder who bought 18 inescapable billboards at Canberra Airport protesting Labor’s capital gains tax grab.

The Albanese government has been being greeted by more than a dozen billboards at Canberra Airport attacking the changes to the capital gains tax.

Around the airport, signs carrying the message “Stop the ambition tax” lit up from midnight on Sunday, timed to greet MPs, staffers and media arriving for parliament.
