Eight people accused of serious crimes have cut off their ankle bracelets in the past 48 hours, sparking a massive manhunt, WA police have said.

As of 3:30pm on Sunday, the ABC understands six alleged offenders have been caught, leaving two men on the run.

Those people are allegedly serious criminals and are "dangerous to the community", according to Simone Taplin, a representative from WA Police Union.

Sergeant Taplin said six police officers were required to hunt each person, meaning 48 officers were diverted from their usual duties this weekend.

Fishermen fined $14,500 over illegal late-night act as warning issued: 'You will be caught'

Four fishers have been slapped with massive fines after their boat was spotted in a Great Barrier Reef marine park "no fishing" zone at night.

Reef Authority compliance officers caught the alleged fish poachers "red-handed" in a no-take zone off Yeppoon, in Central Queensland.

"Officers identified the group illegally fishing in a Green Zone at night and, after turning off their own lights, were able to pull up next to them and catch them in the act," Chris Cochrane, the Director of Reef Authority Compliance, said.

This incident comes just a couple of weeks after the Authority reported officers caught four anglers allegedly fishing in a protected area during a fishing competition at the Capricorn and Bunker Group, a cluster of islands that lies about 80 kilometres offshore from Gladstone in Central Queensland.
