Another Big Mac world record looming, says retired swimming great Ariarne Titmus

Australian swimming great turned Channel 7 commentator Ariarne Titmus says a second 50m freestyle world record is on Cameron McEvoy’s radar at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games later this year.

The 31-year-old McEvoy set a world record of 20.88 seconds in March at the China Open in Shenzhen on the back of a personally tailored “less-is-more” training approach.

“He wants to break it again at an event like the Commonwealth Games and he has never actually won a Commonwealth Games individual gold medal. That’s one thing Cam wants to tick off,” said Titmus, who will join the Channel Seven team as a mixed zone pool deck interviewer in Glasgow.

Public transport in Victoria will be free until the end of May and then half-price to the end of 2026, as the state government expands its cost-of-living policy while fuel prices stay high.

Premier Jacinta Allan will on Sunday announce the major discounts to travel on all public train, tram and bus trips, in an extension of Labor’s free public transport for April.

The $400 million policy, a key part of the government’s May budget, extends free public transport until the end of next month and halves fares from June 1 until the end of the year – a month after the state election.

A comics and gaming convention in Melbourne will continue on Sunday morning, after a person was killed and another seriously injured leaving the event last night.

A car struck pedestrians outside the event at Melbourne showgrounds shortly before 5pm on Saturday, with the driver under police guard in hospital.

In a statement issued later on Saturday night, Supanova organisers said the event would continue with a minute’s silence the following morning. Organisers said:

Vic extends free public transport, defying IMF inflation warning

The Victorian Labor government is extending its free public transport offer for another month, and will then offer half price fares until the end of the year, in a $400 million election sweetener and response to war in the Middle East.

The free trains, trams and buses – both for metropolitan and regional lines – covered April at an estimated cost of $71 million in foregone revenue and will now be extended across May with half price fares promised to continue beyond the November state election until the end of the year.

The Pitt is done for another season. Did fans ruin it for themselves?

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

This story contains spoilers for the season two finale of The Pitt.

Well, Dr Robby (Noah Wyle) didn’t die. He didn’t crash his motorbike, the spectre of which has been purring in the background all season. He didn’t “pull a Thelma and Louise” as Dr Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) cautions, careening off the cliff where they used to take buffalo to die. In fact, he didn’t even leave the hospital.

The final moments of the series see him cradling (now internet-famous) Baby Jane Doe in the same room as his season one breakdown, telling her – and himself – that everything is “gonna be OK”. “You got so many wonderful things to see and so many people to love ahead of you. So many wonderful things to see. People to love ahead of you.”

‘The Pitt’ Star Noah Wyle on Surviving Another Shift

This story contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of The Pitt, “9:00 PM.”

Michael Robinavitch will live to intubate another day. From the beginning of The Pitt season two, there’s been something clearly off about our hero, senior attending physician Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. The twinkle in his eye, a trademark of Noah Wyle’s Emmy-winning performance last season, is noticeably dimmed. By the back half of the season, Robby is fully fraying and crashing out, barking at subordinates and carrying on conversations ahead of his “sabbatical” with a bizarre air of finality, before admitting in the penultimate episode that he’s not sure if he “wants to be here anymore.”

Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell has admitted the prospect of Toby Greene playing for the Hawks would be enticing after the club was urged to target the star Giants skipper.

Hawks coach responds to Cornes’ Toby Greene suggestion

Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell admits he would love Toby Greene at his club.

But he fully understands the reality of the situation in attempting to lure a star captain away from his current club.

Last week, SEN’s Kane Cornes floated the potential for the Hawks to bring 32-year-old Greene, who is out of contract at season’s end, back to Melbourne for a last tilt at a flag

“You'll continually be on the hunt to improve your list and you like to dodge these questions, but I think Toby Greene is a nice option for free in terms of not giving up anything for him – a couple of years left, I think he serves a purpose for you,” Cornes said.

Faf du Plessis and Ian Bishop revisit SA's approach to the first innings (3:26)

Behind the Shukri Conrad wisecracks and one-liners, the nudge-nudge, wink-wink that South Africa have done it again, and the plain crude memes that turn the Coca-Cola logo into the word choke, there is real and raw disappointment that South Africa will confront after another major tournament failure. Beyond the hurt, and there's plenty of that, they will also need to ask how they got here and the answers could be difficult to find.

T20 WC: Faf du Plessis stresses on powerplay control after South Africa's exit in semi-final

New Delhi [India], March 5 (ANI): Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis said that the outcome of a T20 match is often shaped in the opening overs, stressing that teams that lose the powerplay frequently struggle to recover.

New Zealand outplayed South Africa and registered a dominating win by nine wickets. The Black Caps chase down the target of 170 in 12.5 overs in the first semi-final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

New Zealand opener Finn Allen smashed a 33-ball hundred, the fastest in the Men's T20 World Cup. He was also named Player of the Match for his record-breaking unbeaten knock.

Arsenal face another title test and buildup to the Old Firm game – as it happened

Rangers and Celtic count down to a seismic Old Firm game, while Arsenal take on Chelsea and Manchester United face Crystal Palace

Righto, that’s us done here. Thanks for your company and comments – I’ll see you for Manchester United v Crystal Palace at 1pm for a 2pm kick-off. But between now and then, have a bit of this!

“Agree with you regarding GNev’s odd comments,” begins Dave Estherby. “A big tall striker who can hold the ball up, link play and score goals – all from the bench recently – is exactly what Man Utd need right now. Respectfully disagree about Amorim though; I think he had lost at least some of the players (both human and the plastic ones on that wonderful little board of his) and was getting the boot regardless. If only there were 10 million or so things that could soften the blow for him…”

Arsenal take on Chelsea in a huge game at the top of the Premier League, and you can follow it all here with ESPN.

After Manchester City saw off Leeds yesterday, just two points separate City from Mikel Arteta's men before this Sunday afternoon clash at the Emirates.

Liam Rosenior and Chelsea will remember the last time these two sides met — a second-leg defeat in the Carabao Cup in February, but victory here would see them leapfrog Liverpool into fifth.

Arsenal head into this clash buoyed after a 4-1 thrashing of their arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, as Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyökeres both scored a brace.

High temperatures will coincide with gusty north-westerly winds tomorrow, creating extreme fire danger in many parts of the state.

The conditions come amid a record-dry start to the year in some parts of the state.

A cool change will sweep across the state from mid-morning, helping to ease the hot conditions.

Victoria's parched landscape has authorities concerned amid forecasts of another day of high temperatures and gusty winds across the state.

After sustained heatwaves in the north-west in January, Mildura is again expecting temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius tomorrow, while Shepparton in northern Victoria is expecting 39C.

Live: 'Another world is possible': Calls for unity at Winter Olympics opening

The 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics are officially open, launched in an historic ceremony held in a number of Italian locations simultaneously.

With ceremonies in both host cities, 370km apart, and athletes parades in both places and also Livigno and Predazzo, it was part of what the IOC are calling the first "widespread Olympic Games".

Athletes from 92 delegations will compete at these Games. Not all countries had athletes marching aside from their flagbearers.

Australia was represented in all four locations, with the bulk of the team marching in Livigno. Flagbearers Matt Graham and Jakara Anthony led the way, with all the team looking like they were enjoying the experience amid strong support from the Italian crowds.

From the stunning mountain scenery in Italy to the stylish city hub of Milan, the contrast from the COVID-affected Winter Olympics in Beijing could hardly be more stark.

The Milan-Cortina Games mark a return to the European alps for the first time in 20 years, since Italy coincidentally hosted the previous Olympics in the region of Torino in 2006.

After the tight restrictions of the Chinese COVID bubble, which one athlete then described as a "sports prison", the IOC are counting on Italy bringing the "joy" back, just as Paris did for the Summer Olympics.
