The University of Melbourne has appointed a new vice chancellor to replace Emma Johnston, who died late last year aged 52.

The prestigious institution has poached Griffith University vice chancellor Carolyn Evans to lead the $3.6 billion organisation, which has been helmed by former top federal public servant Glyn Davis on an interim basis since Johnston’s death in December.

The university’s chancellor, Jane Hansen, said the appointment had come after a time “of profound loss and transition” for the state’s most prestigious tertiary institution.

Since 2019, Evans has been vice chancellor of Griffith University, a 44,000-student operation that sprawls over campuses dotted around Brisbane and south-east Queensland.

Brad Turcotte Named SVP of Country at TEG Live

TEG brings in former UMG Nashville and Big Machine international strategy exec to accelerate growth of its global live country music division.

Ticketek Entertainment Group (TEG) has hired Brad Turcotte as senior vice president of country for the company’s global touring platform, TEG Live.

Turcotte — who most recently worked in artist management at Vector Management, and who’s held senior leadership roles at UMG Nashville and Big Machine — will be based at TEG’s just-opened office in Nashville, where he’ll lead TEG Live’s country strategy across North America as the Sydney, Australia-based live entertainment company launches a dedicated touring brand in the genre. With roots in Nashville, he’ll work closely with TEG’s Australia and New Zealand teams on artist pipelines, partnerships and longterm touring development.

PM appoints Greg Moriarty as next ambassador to the United States

Defence department boss Greg Moriarty will be the next Australian ambassador to the US, replacing outgoing ambassador Kevin Rudd.

Mr Moriarty has served as the Defence secretary for nearly a decade, and was previously chief of staff to then-prime minister Malcolm Turnbull.

The secretary has also held senior roles in counter terrorism and has served as the ambassador to Indonesia and Iran.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced his recommendation of Mr Moriarty while speaking on ABC Insiders.

"I know Mr Moriarty very well, and I have been impressed by the dignified way in which he handles himself," Mr Albanese said.

The prime minister, Anthony Albanese, has revealed that veteran public servant and former chief of staff to Malcolm Turnbull, Greg Moriarty, will be recommended to the governor general to be Australiaâ€™s ambassador to the US, replacing the outgoing ambassador, Kevin Rudd.

He is I think an outstanding Australian public servant. He served as an ambassador to Iran and to Indonesia. Heâ€™s played a role in Papua New Guinea as well. He was the first, appointed the first counter-terrorism tsar if you look in 2015. Heâ€™s been a former chief of staff to a Liberal prime minister. He has served both Labor and Coalition governments and heâ€™s been of the secretary of the Department of Defence and the Aukus deal is central to our relationship with the US. And heâ€™s in a very strong position to be on top of all of that detail.
