4 takeaways: Knicks-Hawks Game 3 thrills to final seconds, as CJ McCollum takes over again

Trade acquisitions Jonathan Kuminga and CJ McCollum spark the Hawks to a go-ahead Game 3 victory over the Knicks.

CJ McCollum hits a go-ahead midrange jumper with 12.5 left on the clock and Atlanta seals a Game 3 win on the final possession.

ATLANTA – Game up for grabs, both teams have chances, both sides have capable heroes. So what happens?

Well: There’s a reason the Atlanta Hawks are leading their best-of-seven first round series with the New York Knicks. For the second straight game, they held all the fourth-quarter answers, and in this latest victory, all the closing-second solutions in a game that came down to a final possession.

Knicks-Hawks takeaways: CJ McCollum hits game-winner to give Atlanta 2-1 lead; KAT keeps starting slowly

As expected, the first-round series between the Knicks and Hawks has become must-see TV.

After initiating a 12-point lead after the first quarter of Game 3, Atlanta struggled to keep its distance. New York clawed its way back, leading to an enormously entertaining back-and-forth fourth quarter that saw the Knicks take the lead late. It all went down to the final seconds, with the Knicks failing to get off a shot in their last possession as the Hawks held on 109-108 to take a 2-1 first-round series lead.

These two squads are going blow for blow, and no lead appears safe. Both teams have the capability of getting hot from 3, making it entirely feasible to get back into games, and the collective group of raw talent is severely underrated, making this series ridiculously fun to watch. Not a lot of teams can, in theory, run their offense through both a lead guard and a big man, but that's the case here, even if Karl-Anthony Towns has been struggling in that department (we'll get to it).

West Brom 2-2 Wrexham (Apr 3, 2026) Game Analysis

Wrexham staged a dramatic second-half recovery to draw 2-2 at West Brom and move into the Championship playoff places.

Isaac Price's free kick deflected off George Dobson to give the hosts a lead that was built on before half-time by Josh Maja's penalty — Albion's first of the season.

Wrexham had not been at the races first half, but they levelled two minutes after the restart as Josh Windass curled home a beauty from 20 yards.

Parity was restored after 62 minutes when Lewis O'Brien and Dobson were left to dispute who got the final touch on a Callum Doyle cross.

Wrexham appeared the more likely team to win it at that stage, but they owed their point to Arthur Okonkwo's incredible late save from Albion substitute Daryl Dike.

James Morrison's men doubled their advantage before half-time as Josh Maja converted from the penalty spot following Issa Kabore's foul on Jayson Molumby.
