Ashes 2025-26: What is the Pink Test?

The 'Pink Test' is an annual cricket tradition dedicated to raising awareness and funds for cancer treatment during the Sydney Test match in Australia.

The event pays tribute to Jane McGrath, the wife of former Australian cricketer, Glenn, who died in 2008 from breast cancer.

Jane was a prominent cancer support campaigner and established a foundation in 2005 to raise money to fund breast cancer care nurses in Australia.

Glenn is widely regarded as one of the best pace bowlers of all time. He took 563 wickets in 124 Tests for Australia and he was the most successful quick bowler in history when he retired in 2007.

Shane Warne's plea back in spotlight as Cricket Australia braces for more bad news in Ashes finale

Cricket Australia, do you want the good news or bad news first? After estimated losses of $15 million due to the first and fourth Test of the Ashes series finishing within two days, nervous CA officials are praying the SCG New Year's Test goes the distance.

While not under any strict orders to prepare a "road", the SCG ground staff will present a pitch far removed from the grassy, Russian roulette of a deck that saw 36 wickets fall in two days of the truncated MCG Boxing Day Test. But the one thing no one can control is the weather – particularly in Sydney in early January.

Ashes weather Sydney forecast: Latest updates, SCG conditions for fifth Test – Australia vs. England

Australia and England play the fifth Ashes Test at the notoriously wet SCG in Sydney.

The annual match has regularly suffered rain delays and washouts in previous years, but the forecast is looking up this tine around.

Can England continue their momentum or will Australia put a footnote on the series?

Hot, humid and with a high likelihood of rain and a storm on the opening day.

Warm day with it being extremely unlikely that play is affected by wet weather.

If the Test makes it, it's likely to be a hot day with no rain.

The Ashes: Should England's Jacob Bethell have batted at No 3 or lower down the order in Melbourne?

Sky Sports' Michael Atherton says Jacob Bethell was on a "hiding to nothing" after returning to England side at No 3 after lack of red-ball cricket and in front of bumper crowd at MCG; Athers backs Harry Brook's counterpunching approach on 20-wicket Boxing Day in Melbourne

No 3 has been a problem position for England in The Ashes with Ollie Pope struggling for form and his replacement Jacob Bethell was dismissed for just one on a 20-wicket opening day of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

The 22-year-old did impress in that spot last winter in New Zealand, hitting three half-centuries in his maiden Test series, but has been so short of red-ball cricket of late.

'Giving him no chance': Jacob Bethell decision slammed by former England captain

England great Michael Vaughan has slammed the decision to push prodigy Jacob Bethell straight into the top-order for the Boxing Day Test.

The 22-year-old is one of the best young players in the country, but has limited first-class experience and has been brought into the national set-up mainly on potential.

Bethell had scored 271 runs at 39 in his handful of Test appearances prior to the Ashes, but was left out for the first three games when the series was on the line.

Ashes 2025: Did England set up Jacob Bethell for failure at No.3 in Melbourne Test?

Former England captain Michael Atherton questioned the choice to have Jacob Bethell come in at No.3 for the Melbourne Test against Australia in the Ashes. The fourth Ashes Test in Melbourne placed the focus squarely on Bethell as he returned to England's side at No.3, a position under the spotlight due to England's ongoing search for stability at the top order. Bethell’s promotion came after limited opportunities in first-class cricket over the past year, having made just one County Championship appearance for Warwickshire last season.

He played the final fixture against India during the series earlier in the year and played for the England Lions, but Atherton feels that he was thrown into the deep end by being asked to go out with England at 7/1 in front of a loud MCG crowd.

England will thrust Ben Duckett into the Boxing Day spotlight despite an ongoing probe into his appearance in a video which has intensified scrutiny around the visitors’ off-field behaviour this tour.

As captain Ben Stokes on Wednesday refused to condemn his players for their antics during a controversial mid-series holiday in Noosa, the struggling tourists were dealt a further blow with speed demon Jofra Archer ruled out of the rest of the series with a left side strain.

Live: Australia on cusp of Ashes victory on day five at the Adelaide Oval

Australia begins the final day of the third Ashes Test with series victory in sight, with England in need of a miracle to avoid going 3-0 down at the Adelaide Oval.

Tune into our live radio call, keep up to date with all the stats in our Score Centre, and follow all the action in our live blog below.

If Australia gets the job done today, it will be, in terms of balls, the quickest Ashes victory ever.

I think this stat from Ric Finlay also speaks to the atrocious over rate we've witnessed so far, as well.

We're all giving England the last rites — and fair enough too because they've been summarily beaten for most of this series thus far — but there is a slim hope for the Poms.

Comeback kings prove Australia's difference makers

Cummins made early in-roads while Lyon's three-wicket spell late on day four all but ended England's fight to stay alive in the Ashes

It's no small thing to have almost 900 Test wickets returning to your team for a potentially series-deciding contest.

And the genius of Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon came through precisely when Australia needed it most across day four of this third Ashes Test in Adelaide.

As the last vestiges of Bazball were swallowed up by the late afternoon shadows that stretched across the Adelaide Oval, it was Lyon, a one-time apprentice groundsman at this famed venue, who drew the plaudits of the crowd after his final-session heroics left Australia needing just four wickets to retain the Ashes inside 11 dominant days.

Nathan Lyon could be about to make Ashes history – here’s how he can join the greats

The first Test ever was played back in 1877 between Australia and England. At that stage the concept of The Ashes had yet to be born.

It was five years later, in 1882, that the first Ashes game was played, and cricket’s two oldest rivals are still going at it more than a century later.

Quite naturally, plenty of records and milestones have been set over the course of the rivalry; let’s take a moment to see which of cricket’s legends have taken the most Ashes wickets over the years.

While there are plenty of modern names on the list, the top nine does not feature any current players. That could of course change by the end of the series, however, with one player perilously close to reaching the top bracket.

The Ashes: Ollie Pope is just not good enough and England butchered chance to move on from him

A No 3 batsman is arguably the most significant in Test cricket, a role for which Pope is conspicuously under-qualified

Little illustrates Ollie Pope’s state of panic against Australia quite like the fact his Ashes batting displays, as England’s No 3, are significantly worse than those of his opponents’ leading strike bowler. Where Pope’s average in these duels is 18.71, Mitchell Starc’s is 25.48. Could there be a more damning indictment of his habit of shrivelling under pressure, or of this team’s misplaced trust in persisting with him in the top order? “Just a player” was the verdict here in Brisbane of Mark Waugh, who did not even bother to add an adjective. “He’s their weakness.”

Live: Ashes day of reckoning arrives as England great forecasts 5-0 whitewash

England captain Michael Vaughan says Australia could beat England 5-0 yet again if Ben Stokes's team does not rapidly change course, starting on day four at the Gabba.

Follow all the action in our live blog below, keep up with all the stats in our ScoreCentre, and tune in to our live radio call.

Between Jofra's nap time, Mitch's batting heroics and some truly bizarre umpiring, there's plenty to sink your teeth into from day three.

After a pretty poor day for England on both sides of the ball, the tourists decided to put assistant coach Marcus Trescothick up for media availability, which is rarely a good sign.

Here’s Simon Burnton with the quotes, for which England predictably put up one of the assistant coaching ranks rather than a player or Brendon McCullum. Normal Bad News Day protocol.

Let’s start with the recaps. Ali Martin is one of our several reporters at the ground, and he’s responsible for the wrap of the day’s play.

Good morrow, gentlefolk. It is afternoon in Brisbane and who knows what time anywhere else. More importantly, it is crunch time for England. Let us be honest: the show is almost over. Resuming 43 runs behind with four wickets in hand, England lost the Test in that dramatic final hour last night, ending up at six wickets down.

‘Lobotomised’: Star roasted as ‘gruesome’ Poms collapse exposed fatal flaw — UK View

England are on the verge of falling into a 2-0 hole following a “gruesome” third day in Brisbane.

The visitors capitulated in the final hour last night, losing five wickets for 44 runs to end the day at 6-134 in their second innings, 43 runs behind Australia.

It would have been tough to watch as an England fan. Respected sports journalist Lawrence Booth didn’t mince words.
