UN delegates walk out as Netanyahu attacks Israel's critics

Scores of UN delegates have once again walked out on Benjamin Netanyahu as he prepared to give a table-thumping speech in which he lavished praise on US President Donald Trump and attacked Israel's critics.

The Israeli prime minister used the address to decry accusations of genocide — from a UN-backed inquiry, human rights groups, genocide scholars and world leaders at this week's UN summit — as the "greatest lie of the century".

He took particular aim at New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has described Mr Netanyahu as the "architect of a horrific genocide" and in the past suggested he might order New York Police to arrest him. Mr Netanyahu is the subject of an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for alleged war crimes in Gaza.

Indignant Israeli PM stares down critics but wins few new friends

Lashing out at his country’s critics, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu angrily dismissed allegations of Israeli genocide in Gaza in a defiant speech to the UN General Assembly that asserted his nation’s right to wage war against Iran. Scores of delegates trooped out of the hall in protest.

Netanyahu addressed the plenum after days of speeches by world leaders condemning Israel’s war in Gaza and accusing him of orchestrating a genocide against the Palestinian people. At times, the Israeli leader, facing a tough race for re-election next month, became emotional and indignant as he lectured his critics, among them New York’s mayor.

Netanyahu calls Israel’s war in Gaza ‘opposite of genocide’ in UN speech

Israeli PM attacks critics and calls New York mayor Zohran Mamdani ‘antisemitic’ in inflammatory address

Benjamin Netanyahu delivered an inflammatory address to the United Nations on Thursday, decrying what he said was a global anti-Jewish conspiracy and swatting aside criticism of Israel’s war in Gaza, as he faces down international isolation and a fight for political survival in upcoming elections in Israel.

As planned protests erupted on the streets of New York City, Netanyahu took aim at critics of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the international media, regional leaders such as Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the leftwing commentator Hasan Piker and the New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani in an address that doubled as a stump speech to ignite his rightwing base for the elections.

HBO Max’s verified Reddit account hijacked to spread malware

Researchers at Hudson Rock found that cybercriminals hijacked HBO Max’s verified Reddit account and used it to run 108 malicious ads over roughly 48 hours.

The ads used HBO Max’s trusted corporate account to promote fake AI tools, developer software, and macOS utilities, lowering potential victims’ guards.

Some ads directed users to convincing HBO lookalike sites that claimed to offer a native HBO Max app for macOS or a promotional download. But instead of providing an installer, the sites instructed visitors to open Terminal on their Mac or, on Windows, the Run dialog or PowerShell, and paste in a command.

ClickFix attacks are tricking Mac and Windows users into hacking themselves

Disrupt 2026: OpenAI, Anthropic, Replit, and more take over 6 industry stages. 25% off tickets now

If you clicked on an HBO Max ad on Reddit over the past week, you might want to check your computer for malware.

These so-called “ClickFix” attacks have quickly become one of the rising cybersecurity threats of 2026, and they’re getting both sneakier and compromising people’s devices with greater frequency. Until recently, ClickFix attacks were a rarity, capitalizing on people searching the web for quick tech fixes. They have since evolved into a massive international effort to hack into people’s computers.

The attacks involve fake websites, or legitimate websites that have been hacked, which display a message that appears to look like a CAPTCHA or an anti-bot checkbox. Once clicked, a prompt appears asking the user to perform a “check” to proceed, which gives instructions to copy and paste a string of text into the user’s Windows command prompt or Mac Terminal app.

Russian drone attacks persist despite Kremlin’s Easter ceasefire, Ukrainian forces say

Ukraine reports 469 violations of Putin’s 32-hour ceasefire, hours after deadly drone attacks on Odesa and Kherson

Russia continued to strike Ukrainian positions with drones after a Kremlin-declared Easter ceasefire took effect on Saturday, a Ukrainian military officer said.

“The ceasefire is not being observed by the Russian side,” said Serhii Kolesnychenko, a communications officer for the 148th Separate Artillery Brigade.

He told the Associated Press that while artillery fire had paused in the sector where his brigade was working, at the junction of the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, Russian forces continued to use drones to strike Ukrainian positions.

    Russia-Ukraine Orthodox Easter ceasefire begins

Both sides have agreed to observe the temporary truce, as US-led diplomatic efforts to end the war continue to stall.

A temporary ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine has come into force, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy saying Kyiv would respect it if Moscow did.

The ceasefire is due to last for 32 hours, from 4:00pm local time (13:00 GMT) on Saturday until midnight on Sunday, according to the Kremlin.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had ordered the ceasefire on Thursday to coincide with Orthodox Easter celebrations, more than a week after Zelenskyy first made the proposal.

“Ukraine will adhere to the ceasefire and respond strictly in kind. The absence of Russian strikes in the air, on land, and at sea will mean no response from our side,” Zelenskyy said in a post on social media.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a 32-hour ceasefire in Ukraine over the Orthodox Easter weekend.

The ceasefire comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed earlier this week to pause to observe the holiday.

The ceasefire will start on Saturday at 4pm, local time, and finish at the end of Sunday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a 32-hour ceasefire in Ukraine over the Orthodox Easter weekend, following an earlier call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a pause in some of the hostilities to observe the holiday.

Live: G7 condemns Iran attacks on energy supplies

G7 foreign ministers condemn Iran's attacks on global energy supplies, stressing the need to keep key shipping routes — including the Strait of Hormuz — secure.

Follow our blog for live updates, as the US-Israeli war with Iran enters its fourth week.

If you're just joining us, here's a recap of the latest developments in the Middle East over the past 24 hours:

Iranian missile strikes wounded 75 people in the southern Israeli town of Arad on Saturday, including 10 seriously, medics said.

The attacks tore open the fronts of residential buildings and left large craters in the ground.

Israeli soldiers secured the scene after the missiles hit residential buildings in Arad.

Iran says it will allow Japanese ships to transit the Strait of Hormuz

Japan sources more than 90 percent of its crude oil imports from the Middle East and is heavily dependent on exports transiting the key waterway.

Iran says Japanese ships will be allowed to transit the Strait of Hormuz, in the latest sign that Tehran has started pursuing a selective blockade of the strategic waterway.

“We have not closed the strait. In our opinion, the strait is open. It is closed only to ships belonging to our enemies, countries that attack us. For other countries, ships can pass through the strait ,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Japan’s Kyodo News late on Friday.
