    Match Preview: Sydney FC vs. Auckland FC

    Last weekend stung. A 1-0 loss to the Central Coast Mariners was gut-wrenching, but Sunday is far from a meaningless fixture. This group needs to dust themselves off and come out firing against Sydney FC because there is still plenty on the line.

    Last weekend’s defeat to the Mariners handed the Premiership title to Newcastle, and fair play to the Jets; it’s a well-earned achievement.

    But there’s still plenty for Auckland FC to fight for. We head to Allianz Stadium on Sunday to face Sydney FC. We’re currently sitting second and need the win to guarantee a bye next weekend and to avoid an Elimination Final.

    Central Coast were punished for their slow start against Perth last week, needing to come from two goals down to nab a point.

    They didn’t fair any better in their midweek clash against Melbourne City, going down 2-0 again and only being able to grab a late consolation goal through Ali Auglah to make it 2-1.

    Squads named for Auckland FC’s A-League match against Melbourne Victory

    Squads have been named for Saturday’s men’s A-League match between Auckland FC and Melbourne Victory at Go Media Stadium.

    Auckland FC will be without All Whites Michael Woud (groin injury) and Francis de Vries (calf injury).

    Midfielder Jake Brimmer has also been left out of the provisional squad, as he recovers from a calf problem.

    Auckland FC have also confirmed forward Guillermo May will miss Saturday’s match against Melbourne Victory at Go Media Stadium.

    He suffered a head knock during the match in Adelaide and is subject to the A-League’s mandatory eight-day stand-down.

    Head coach Steve Corica has added reserve team players Eli Jones (19) and Van Fitzharris (18) to his squad.

    Auckland FC see the return of striker Sam Cosgrove who missed last week’s derby win over the Phoenix. Steve Corica’s side go into the round four points back from leaders Newcastle, while Melbourne City are outside the playoff spots in eighth.

    The teams last met on January 16 at AAMI Park with Melbourne City FC winning 2-1 while the round one clash was a 0-0 draw.

    The project’s name marks the 50 years when women were banned from football in NZ.

    Squads named for Auckland FC’s A-League match against Melbourne City

    Striker Sam Cosgrove will return to the Auckland FC line-up for Saturday’s men’s A-League match against Melbourne City.

    Cosgrove completed a one-match suspension last weekend and has been named in Auckland FC’s squad for the game at Go Media Stadium Mt Smart.

    Head coach Steve Corica has also named several players in the provisional squad who were previously under injury clouds.

    All Whites defender Nando Pijnaker has been included in the squad but missed the derby against Wellington Phoenix after rolling an ankle in training. Corica said after the derby that Pijnaker could be out for two or three games.

    Even with the postponed match in hand, Auckland FC remain on top of the Isuzu UTE A-League table, Steve Corica’s side only having lost the one match so far this season.

    Newcastle keep on scoring, but they keep on conceding as well. The Jets equalised three times against Macarthur FC, yet still couldn’t hold on for a result. The pick of their goals was Eli Adams’s perfectly struck long-range free kick, which found the corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

    Mumford & Sons announce Auckland show for next May

    New Zealand fans will get another chance to see British folk-rock band Mumford & Sons live with the group set to return to Auckland in 2026.

    The Grammy-award winning band will play at Spark Arena on May 2, 2026, supported by Folk Bitch Trio.

    It will be their first performance in New Zealand since 2019. The band rose to prominence in the early 2010s with songs like Little Lion Man and I Will Wait.

    The dates have been announced prior to the release of the band's sixth studio album Prizefighter, which features artists such as Hozier, Gracie Abrams, Chris Stapleton, and Gigi Perez.

    After their standalone, one-night-only at Sydney Opera House earlier this year, English rock-folk icons Mumford & Sons return to Australia in 2026.
