Australia's rental market is expected to face more pressure after the Reserve Bank's interest rate hike.

The Reserve Bank has increased the cash rate to 3.85 per cent, responding to rising inflation.

It means higher mortgage repayments for home owners, but experts say it may also deter people from wanting to buy a home, increasing demand on rentals.

Famous politicians are under pressure after the US government's latest release of files related to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Former US president and Secretary of State Bill and Hillary Clinton will give evidence to an investigation into Epstein this month.

Winter Olympics 2026: what you need to know if following from Australia

When does the action begin? How to watch live? And are there any genuine heated rivalries? Your questions about the Milano Cortina Games answered

The 2026 Winter Olympics officially open in the early hours of Friday 7 February, Australian time, with the opening ceremony at Milan’s San Siro stadium. The Games run for two weeks, culminating in the closing ceremony on 23 February in Verona at the same time of 6am AEDT.

Several sports with packed schedules, including curling and ice hockey, begin a couple of days before the opening ceremony. Australia’s mixed curling team just missed out on qualifying, despite being ranked No 1 in December last year, while Australia won’t be represented in ice hockey in Italy. The ice hockey will be the final event of the Games with the men’s gold-medal game at 12.10am AEDT on 23 February.

Telstra says it has identified an issue with some older iPhone models, saying some users may face issues connecting to their network, including to make Triple Zero calls.

‘Killed the ability to call 000’: iPhone update backfires

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

Users of three iPhone models have been urged to install a fix to regain access to the Telstra network after days of no service for some customers, in what is the latest telco glitch that left affected Australians temporarily unable to make Triple Zero emergency calls.

By Thursday afternoon, Apple had issued a patch to fix the last of the problems that had stopped users of three older iPhone models from connecting to Telstra since a software update released on January 26.

The reliability of Triple Zero services has come under scrutiny since a major outage at Optus last year was initially linked to four deaths, though police later clarified the emergency call issue did not contribute to two of the fatalities.

A software update designed to prevent issues with older iPhones connecting to Triple Zero is stopping some Apple devices from reaching Telstra’s network, including for emergency calls.

Problems began after Apple released software updates for several of its iPhone and cellular Apple Watch models on Tuesday, which included devices as old as 2014's iPhone 6.

The updates were designed to prevent issues with calls to emergency services, and included other bug fixes.
