    Nine Australians will have the chance to win "free Macca's for life", while a combined total of other prizes worth $76,900 is up for grabs through a special deal.  

    Australians will have the chance to win “free Macca’s for life” from next month, with the fast-food giant offering nine "gold cards" as part of a nationwide September promotion.

    McDonald’s will launch its Golden Deals campaign on September 1, giving customers the chance to score discounted menu items through the MyMacca’s app while also entering the draw to win a McGold Card.

    The cards have become part of McDonald’s folklore, with holders overseas receiving free food under the company’s McGold programs.

    McGold Card Heads Down Under, But ‘Free Macca’s for Life’ Comes With A Catch

    For years, the McGold Card sounded like the sort of thing that let you stroll into any Macca’s, flash some shiny plastic and order enough nuggets to concern Ronald McDonald himself. It’s been a fixture of McDonald’s lore in the US since the ’60s, and now, for the first time, nine lucky Australians will receive “Free Macca’s for Life”.

    The Australian McGold Card doesn’t quite get you the free-for-all you might imagine. According to McDonald’s, “Free Macca’s for Life” in Australia actually means $30 a week for 40 years. Which, if you do the maths, works out to be $1,560 a year, or $62,400 if you manage to squeeze every dollar out of the card for the next four decades. Still, that’s a lot of nuggs.

    A picture from a fielding session in Darwin has revealed a huge hint on who the Australians will roll out for the first Test against Bangladesh starting on Thursday.

    It appears that all-rounders Cam Green and Beau Webster will both be picked for the opening Test after cricket journalist Bharat Sundaresan posted a picture to social media showing both Green and Webster in the slips cordon.

    Webster was pictured at first slip, next to keeper Alex Carey and Steve Smith at second slip with Green in his preferred position of gully.

    Allrounder Beau Webster insists his number one asset is being one of Australia's top batters, which is why he is determined to hold his place in the Test team whether Cameron Green is in it or not.

    The 32-year-old suggested he is likely to bat at No.7 in the first Test against Bangladesh in Darwin, which would likely position fellow allrounder Green at No.5 and wicketkeeper Alex Carey at No.6.

    Webster's five Test fifties in eight Tests at an average of 41.09 confirm why he is in the team, but throw in his 11 wickets at 24.54 and the value he offers becomes clear.

    End of the super-cycle: Big call on the national property market

    A 30-year property super-cycle that has made Australian homes among the most expensive in the world may finally be coming to an end, one of the nation’s top economists has predicted, despite warnings prices will eventually rebound due to a chronic shortage of homes.

    AMP chief economist Shane Oliver on Monday said a combination of higher interest rates, record-poor affordability, a slowdown in immigration and the federal government’s budget changes to property taxation may have finally ended a cycle that has pushed home prices way above fair value.

    Data released by Cotality this week showed the national property market at its weakest point since the Albanese government came to office in 2022, with capital city values falling by 0.9 per cent last month.

    The pockets of no less than THREE lucky West Aussies are more than $2.22 million heavier thanks to Saturday evening’s Lotto draw.

    The three winners were among nine national winners from division one who picked up an incredible $2,222,222.23 each.

    A whopping 16 WA players also picked up a handy $9,524.95 each thanks to division two.

    The win comes just days after one lucky Aussie scooped the entire $40 million Powerball draw on Thursday night.

    Although the division one winner did not hail from WA, 20 punters picked up a sizeable $38,148.45 each thanks to division two.

    Raising the baa: The Aussies who helped bring The Sheep Detectives to life

    It’s the sleeper – or sheeper – hit of the year, and despite its bucolic English setting much of it was made right here.

    For audiences flocking to The Sheep Detectives and helping make the murder mystery comedy one of the sleeper (or should that be sheeper?) hits of the year, the question isn’t so much whodunit as how’d they do it?

    Real as they look, every ewe, ram and lamb reared lovingly by loner shepherd George (Hugh Jackman) on his bucolic farm in Somerset is a fully digital creation. And while the film is an English production, many of those animals were created here, by a team that has done its best to raise the bar on visual effects.

    Prime Video has announced one of Amazon MGM Studios' best movies of 2026 will make its streaming premiere this week, and we're not talking Project Hail Mary. Instead, we're talking sheep. The Sheep Detectives will start streaming on Prime Video on Wednesday, June 24.

    Hugh Jackman helped make the announcement in a very "Baaaahh!"-filled video on X. Jackman plays George, a shepherd who is found dead one day. A few members of his flock of sheep set off to dig into the case and help the small town's only police officer with his investigation of George's suspicious death. There are multiple conniving suspects, a bevy of good jokes, and even a dramatic will-reading scene — if you ever wanted a version of Knives Out that starred sheep, then The Sheep Detectives is for you.

    Hugh Jackman leads woolly whodunnit THE SHEEP DETECTIVES

    Based on Leonie Swann’s bestselling novel Three Bags Full, The Sheep Detectives is an Amazon MGM Studios production directed by Kyle Balda from a screenplay and screen story by Craig Mazin.

    Jackman stars as George, a shepherd who regularly reads detective stories to his sheep each evening, convinced the flock cannot possibly understand the mysteries unfolding in the pages.

    When a mysterious incident unsettles the farm and disrupts their quiet routine, the sheep begin following clues and examining the humans around them as they attempt to uncover what has happened.

    Joining Jackman in the film are Emma Thompson, Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, Tosin Cole and Hong Chau.

    Thousands without power after intense storm lashes WA

    Thousands of homes are without power across Western Australia's south including Perth, after an intense storm crossed the coast overnight, but residents have been warned the worst of the weather is yet to come.

    About 8,000 homes in the South West and a further 2,000 in the Perth metropolitan area were affected by the outages.

    The Department of Fire and Emergency Services received 120 calls for assistance, with most coming from Perth for fallen trees, roof damage and water ingress.

    Tens of thousands of residents have been left without power in Perth as an intense storm lashed Australia’s west coast, with authorities warning on Sunday morning the worst was still to come.

    The powerful weather event was forecast to bring wind gusts of up to 125km/h to Perth and communities along Western Australia’s coast.

    Images of widespread destruction flooded social media, including one showing a shed seemingly tossed into a swimming pool in Mandurah in the state’s south-west.

    Vietjet flies to Europe, but what does the new route mean for Aussies looking for cheaper fares?

    Vietjet has unveiled its first European route, between Hanoi and Prague (Czech Republic), via Almaty (Kazakhstan).

    Launching 10 October 2026, the Hanoi-Prague route creates an interesting new option for Australians heading to Europe via Vietnam, one of Australian travellers’ fastest-growing destinations – and a fixture among our top 10 most popular places abroad. 

    However, after Vietjet pulled its Australia-Hanoi flights last year, Aussie travellers looking to take advantage of the new service will need to transfer between Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam’s south and Hanoi in the north before connecting to the new Czech service. That means three stops between Australia and Europe. But at least the prices will be low – from AU$510 one-way between Hanoi and Prague – at a time when affordable airfares are becoming scarcer. Plus, combining Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic into a single itinerary could be compelling for travellers seeking more off-the-beaten-path destinations.

    As rising fuel prices push interest in electric vehicles to record levels, this EV company hopes for a silver lining.

    As electric vehicle sales rise to record levels, Polestar is hoping current uncertainties around fuel supply mark the beginning of a new era for EV uptake in Australia – and believes its brand is in a great position.

    A record 14.6 per cent of new cars sold last month were electric, up 42.3 per cent compared to the month prior. Sales of used electric vehicles also rose, reportedly doubling over the same period.

    “The questions around Australia's fuel security, and the independence that can be gained by customers driving electric, I think, is now better established than it was,” Polestar Australia managing director Scott Maynard told Drive.

    Australian Lachlan Olbrich has finished his maiden NBA season in historic fashion on Monday AEST.

    During Chicago’s 149-139 loss to the Mavericks in Dallas, the NBL25 champion tallied 10 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists and 2 steals.

    In doing so, the big man becomes the fourth rookie in franchise history to post a triple-double, joining Michael Jordan, Jay Williams and Kirk Hinrich.

    This was Olbrich’s second-straight start, after making his maiden start against Orlando on Saturday AEST.

    Elsewhere, Joe Ingles and Rocco Zikarsky helped the Minnesota Timberwolves defeat the New Orleans Pelicans 132-126.

    In the victory, starter Ingles posted 15 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block, while the former Brisbane Bullets Next Star added 8 points, 9 boards, 2 dimes and 2 blocks.
