    Despite the pressure of a World Cup, wicketkeeper-batter Vinayak Shukla insists the mood in the camp remains upbeat.

    "To be honest, it's quite good over here, coming from Colombo to Kandy and I think it's going to be a change of fortune for us and we have a different result from the previous game," Shukla said at a pre-match media briefing on Wednesday. "The mood is pretty light [in the camp], you can't take unnecessary pressure [just] because you are playing against Sri Lanka."

    Fresh ATO alcohol tax hike to hit Aussies from today: 'Difficult to wear'

    Australian spirit drinkers will face a hit to their hip pockets from this week, following a fresh alcohol tax hike. The tax on alcohol is adjusted in line with inflation twice a year, with the government putting a pause on the excise duty for draught beer for two years.

    But this doesn’t extend to those who drink vodka, rum, whisky, gin and other spirits. An Australian Taxation Office (ATO) spokesperson previously told Yahoo Finance excise duty rates were indexed twice a year, usually in February and August, “based on the upward movement of the consumer price index”.

    From today, spirits exceeding 10 per cent by volume of alcohol will increase from $105.98 per litre to $107.99 per litre. The tax is usually paid by manufacturers, distillers and importers of spirits, but then gets passed on to hospitality venues and consumers.

    Returning to Australian stages after nine years, the band delivers a fierce, generous set that draws on four decades of music

    Dragging his hand across the piano keys, Nick Cave leaps into the air and charges towards the crowd like a preacher breaking from the pulpit. “Bring your spirit down!” he cries repeatedly, arms flung wide as the choir roars behind him.

    It’s barely 10 minutes into their set at Fremantle Park in Perth, and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have the audience in the palm of their hands. Touring their 2024 album Wild God in Australia for the first time, they open with the brooding track Frogs and the eponymous Wild God, an explosive crescendo of high-pitched strings, soaring vocals and pounding percussion.

    The fun began at Fremantle Park on Saturday, with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds performing a ripping 23-song set.

    Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds began the Australian and New Zealand leg of their massive Wild God tour over the weekend, performing to devoted fans in Fremantle.

    The group’s first Australian tour since 2017 comprises outdoor, open-air shows and a handful of indoor arena concerts. The fun began at Fremantle Park on Saturday (17 January), with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds performing a ripping 23-song set.

    Eight songs were performed from the tour’s namesake album, Wild God, in addition to classics from across the band’s career. There were O Children, Jubilee Street, From Her To Eternity, Red Right Hand, The Weeping Song, and Into My Arms, to name a few. Read on to discover the first setlist of the tour.

    “I look like I’m dressed as a Mormon,” Nick Cave joked to the thousands of fans gathered at Fremantle Park on Saturday night after catching a glimpse of himself on the big screens.

    Decked out in a charcoal-black suit, white shirt, and tie, Cave resembles an evangelical tent-revival preacher trying to whip his congregation into a religious fervour during the opening song Frogs from his latest album, Wild God.

    The song features an elegant arrangement and a transcendental, meditative flow that has characterised much of Cave’s work of late.

    Right up until its series premiere in October, people didn't know what Apple TV's latest show Pluribus was about.

    They knew it starred Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul); they knew it was the brainchild of television royalty Vince Gilligan; they knew it had something to do with cheery yet eerie smiling petri dishes.

    But the narrative of the series, which was green-lit for two seasons before it even went to air, was a mystery. 

    In a TV landscape where new original shows often have to scream to be acknowledged, Pluribus went quiet.

    Vince Gilligan swaps meth labs for manufactured bliss in Pluribus, a sleek Apple TV+ original that has critics purring. The mix of high-concept satire and sly humor has propelled it to the top of the platform, with a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score to boot. This bright apocalypse is already hitting a nerve.

    Vince Gilligan returns to series television with Pluribus, and the streaming landscape has taken notice. Debuting on Apple TV+ this November, the show rapidly climbed to the number one position on the service, rewarding longtime fans with the precise storytelling they expect.

    In “Pluribus,” Groupthink Spells the End of Art

    There are no working artists in Vince Gilligan’s Pluribus. Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), the show’s protagonist, used to be a successful romantasy novelist, but then a virus of unknown origin swept across the globe, killing millions and uniting its infected survivors into a kind of peaceful, planetary hive mind. Carol was inexplicably spared, along with 12 otherwise unrelated individuals, but she hasn’t really been in a writing mood since the end of the world/dawn of the utopia. The hive mind—which is what I’ll call the shared consciousness of most of the other people on Pluribus—is keen on advancing scientific research as well as pursuing innovations in logistics. But, at least in our limited view of them, it doesn’t seem that the hive mind has any interest in composing symphonies or painting landscapes or, say, writing prestige streaming series. Members of the hive mind methodically gobble up the nutrients they need to survive; the individuals order food and products and services from an essentially limitless menu that the hive mind is eager to fulfill for them. But no one is creating anything. Everyone on Earth is a pure consumer now.

    The controversial Netflix docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning had already been called a “shameful hitpiece” by the disgraced mogul’s lawyers after a trailer was released on Monday.

    Now after all four episodes have been dropped on Netflix, it’s been called “grimly necessary” and a “relentless” portrait of “a terrifying individual” by critics.

    The series, produced by Combs’s longtime rival Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, chronicles his rise to fame and details some of the allegations made against him over the years.

    Diddy hits out at 'shameful' and 'illegal' Netflix documentary

    Lawyers for Sean "Diddy" Combs have hit out at a new Netflix documentary produced by rapper 50 Cent, which they say is "a shameful hit piece" that "relied on stolen footage".

    The four-part documentary, titled Sean Combs: The Reckoning, was released on Tuesday and is billed as a "staggering examination" of the hip-hop mogul, who was convicted on prostitution-related charges earlier this year.

    It includes what Netflix described as "explosive" footage of Combs filmed in the days before his arrest, including a phone conversation with his lawyers.

    The director said she obtained the footage legally, but Combs' spokesman said it was "fundamentally unfair, and illegal" to use his private footage.
