The legends of longevity in 2026 Bathurst 6 Hour field

AT first glance you would be hard pressed to find much connection between the grid for the 1981 James Hardie 1000 and Mount Panorama’s next endurance classic, this weekend’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.

After all, the former belongs to a truly bygone era of the sport – an era so long ago that Kevin Bartlett lined up on pole position in the famous Channel Nine Camaro, joined on the front row by the Tru-Blu XD Falcon of Dick Johnson, who was still a few hours away from becoming a Bathurst winner.

Yet remarkably, there was one driver competing in that race who is not only still actively working and competing in motorsport but set to race in this Easter’s Bathurst enduro – 45 years on from the 1000km classic of ’81. More on that shortly…

Crick and Campbell will reunite this year in their #1 BMW M2 while PremiAir Racing’s Ojeda and Hodges go around again in the #21 BMW M4.

There are several current and former Supercars drivers in the mix, including Grove Racing co-driver Will Davison with Beric Lynton and Tim Leahey in the #23 BMW M3.

Tickford Racing’s Thomas Randle returns with Ben Kavich and Michael Kavich in the #92 BMW M2.

Matt Stone Racing’s Jack Le Brocq joins Amar Sharma and Grant Johnson in the #90 BMW M2.

What Supercars is testing at Bathurst 12 Hour

The category has a Triple Eight Ford Mustang, Team 18 Chevrolet Camaro and Walkinshaw TWG Toyota Supra at Mount Panorama and four 30-minute slots in which to run them across Friday and Saturday.

While there’s been much focus on new player Toyota, Supercars’ data gathering is also about ensuring there’s straight line parity between the Mustang and Camaro.

Straight line speed was the big talking point at last year’s Great Race – in particular the ability for Camaro runners to tow up on Mustangs on Conrod in the race.

There was heated debate over whether that was due to engine – and the impact of barometric pressure at Bathurst – or aerodynamic factors.
