    Club Wyndham Mission Beach multi-million-dollar refurbishment project completed

    Club Wyndham Mission Beach has unveiled its multi-million-dollar refurbishment project aimed at strengthening year-round tourism and driving new visitation to the Cassowary Coast.

    The resort was a long-time tourist favourite under its previous name, Castaways, and the renewal that has taken place since its purchase by Travel + Leisure Co. is providing tourists with fresh incentive to visit the region. It comes as the Cassowary Regional Council unveils the $19 million Mission Beach Town Centre Revitalisation Project, which includes the installation of underground services to improve amenity, new footpaths and street lighting, enhanced landscaping and upgrades to the nearby Village Green and Porter Promenade.

    An increasing number of Australia's most unspoiled and pristine locations are facing being overrun with visitors, leaving authorities scrambling to preserve their natural beauty while reaping the benefits of tourist dollars. The nation's "best beach" is the latest on the list under threat, prompting a new plea.

    Tourism Australia named Squeaky Beach the best across the continent in 2024, and it came second on Lonely Planet’s list of the best beaches in the world last year.

    Situated on the east side of Wilsons Promontory National Park in Victoria — at the southermost tip of the state — visitor numbers have risen exponentially in recent years, as guests flock to enjoy its white quartz sands.

    Multiple emergency services have responded to the discovery of a dead body washed up on Dee Why Beach this morning, 3 February about 6am.

    Northern Beaches Police have confirmed the discovery and only remarked that there is no evidence to suggest the death relates to sharks.

    With a strong southerly blowing overnight, one possibility was that it was the missing swimmer from the southern beaches on Sunday. Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were told the man – aged in his 30s – was with friends at the time he went missing in the water at Maroubra.

    However, police now say they do not believe the incidents from Sunday and this morning are related.

    Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson had sharp words for disrespectful behaviour at Good Things Festival, calling out a festivalgoer who repeatedly threw beach balls during the band’s Melbourne set on Dec. 5.

    “Big guy with your big f–kin’ beach ball,” Manson said from the stage. “What a f–kin’ douchebag… You’re a f–kin’ middle-aged man in a f–kin’ ridiculous hat, and you’re a f–kin’ f–kface. I want, literally, to ask people to f–kin’ punch you in the f–kin’ face. But you know what? I’m a lady, so I won’t.”

    Shirley Manson has come under fire after she raged at a fan in the crowd during her set in Melbourne on Friday at the Good Things Festival.

    The Garbage frontwoman, 59, was seen unleashing onstage after an apparent incident with a beach ball, calling out one particular male fan in the crowd. 

    A video the Scottish musician shared to her Instagram page showed her saying: 'Big man with your big f***ing beach ball. Oh I'm so scared of you, so thrilled by you.'

    'What a f***ing douche bag,' she finished addressing the man in the audience before signalling for her band to start playing once more.
