    Deborah Mailman becomes first Indigenous inductee to Logies Hall of Fame

    Deborah Mailman is set to become the first Indigenous person to be inducted into the Logie Awards Hall of Fame.

    "This means everything," Mailman, a Bidjara and Maori actor, tells ABC Radio National's Awaye!

    "For me and for our mob, this isn't just recognition for me.

    "It's recognition for everyone who's gone before me, who changed things for someone like me to be doing the work that I'm doing."

    On Sunday Mailman will become the sixth woman to join the list in just over 40 years, following recent inductees Rebecca Gibney (2024) and Magda Szubanski (2025).

    Deborah Mailman makes history as first Indigenous person inducted into Logies Hall of Fame

    On Sunday night, Deborah Mailman will become the first person of First Nations descent to be inducted into the Logie Awards Hall of Fame, as well as only the sixth woman.

    “I had a moment of almost bursting into tears,” she says. “I couldn’t quite understand it all, to be honest. It took some time for it to land because I was like, ‘Are you sure?’ I had to re-read the email and go, ‘Hang on, what?’ And then when I started thinking [about it], I got really quite emotional about it.”

    The award, which began in 1984, recognises “outstanding and continued contribution and enrichment to Australian television culture by an individual, a group of individuals, or a program”. Mailman will be one of three inductees on the night, with the other two revealed during the ceremony.

    Jeongyeon Becomes First Member To Leave JYP: What This Means For TWICE

    TWICE member Jeongyeon announced her departure from JYP Entertainment after an eleven-year relationship, signing an exclusive contract with VARO Entertainment on August 10. In a heartfelt Instagram letter, Jeongyeon confirmed she remains a TWICE member, making her the first to leave JYP while staying with the group. This move follows TWICE's remarkable 11-year run with its original nine-member lineup, defying K-pop's "seven-year jinx." VARO, which also represents her sister, will support her "new challenges." This "separate but together" model, where members pursue solo endeavors with different agencies while maintaining group activities, is increasingly common for established K-pop acts, ensuring longevity. Jeongyeon reassured fans that TWICE remains the "center of her life."

    Twice’s Jeongyeon begins new chapter with Varo Entertainment

    The Twice member said the move marks a new acting chapter while stressing that her group activities and fans remain her top priority.

    Twice’s Jeongyeon is to pursue her acting career with Varo Entertainment, the same agency as her sister, actor Gong Seung-yeon.

    Jeongyeon signed an exclusive contract with Varo Entertainment, home to actors Byeon Woo-seok and Gong, the agency said Monday.

    “We are truly delighted to begin this meaningful partnership with Yu Jeong-yeon, who possesses a wide range of charms and boundless potential,” Varo Entertainment said in a press release. Yu Jeong-yeon is Jeongyeon's full name. “We were deeply moved by her sincerity and genuine commitment to acting.”

    TWICE's Jeongyeon Becomes First Member to Leave JYP After Contract Renewal Talks Fall Through…Set to Depart After 11 Years

    [Sportschosun Kim Soo-hyun] TWICE member Jeongyeon will leave JYP Entertainment and take on a new challenge.

    On the 10th, Jeongyeon announced her new beginning by sharing a handwritten letter with fans.

    In the letter, Jeongyeon began cautiously, saying, "I wrote this letter because I have something I want to tell you today."

    She continued, "I am leaving JYP, where I have spent so many years since my teens, and I am now preparing for another new start somewhere else."

    As she parts ways with the agency she has been with since her teenage years, Jeongyeon said, "Leaving a familiar place was frightening, but I was able to find courage because of the members and ONCE who believed in me."

    Max Dowman Makes More Premier League History As Arsenal Clinch Title

    Arsenal prodigy Max Dowman will wrap a historic season by breaking yet another age-related record, becoming the youngest player to win a Premier League title.

    When Dowman receives his Premier League winners’ medal after the final whistle of Sunday’s match against Crystal Palace, the day Arsenal will lift the trophy as English soccer champions for the first time in 22 years, the teenage winger will be 16 years and 144 days old.

    That shatters the previous as the youngest champion, set by Phil Foden when he was a fringe part of Manchester City’s 2017–18 title-winning team, by more than a year.

    Foden was less than three weeks away from turning 18 at that time, whereas Dowman only turned 16 five months ago.

    Will Max Dowman get a Premier League winner’s medal?

    The Guinness World Records have confirmed that Max Dowman has achieved a new record as the youngest football player to win the Premier League. The midfielder will be 16 years and 144 days at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

    Dowman is already guaranteed to receive a winner’s medal, as Premier League guidelines mandate that every player to make five or more appearances must receive one of the 40 medals on offer.

    Dowman has made exactly five so far, though he may now find himself earning a sixth at the weekend given the pressure is off against Crystal Palace.

    The teenager wasn’t just there for the ride either, winning a penalty for a goal against Leeds United in August, and scoring a memorable goal against Everton in March.

    Angus Taylor becomes Liberal leader

    Angus Taylor is the leader of the federal Liberal Party after prevailing in a partyroom meeting in Canberra.

    He replaces Sussan Ley, the first woman to hold the role, who was removed after just nine months.

    Mr Taylor won by a comfortable margin with 34 votes to Ms Ley's 17, according to several Liberals present.

    Jane Hume was chosen as deputy leader, the first senator to hold the role since 1990.

    Four candidates nominated including incumbent Ted O'Brien, Dan Tehan and Melissa Price. 

    Ms Price was eliminated first with two votes, and then Mr Tehan in the second round with 11 votes.

    Sussan Ley took this job with ambition and promise. But things soon unravelled

    In the weeks after she was narrowly elected by her colleagues as the federal Liberal Party’s first female leader, Sussan Ley sounded full of the optimism that often comes with fresh starts.

    She promised to be a new leader, with a new tone, new team and new agenda. She wanted to move her party to the so-called sensible centre. She would win back Australian women, young people, cities and multicultural communities. She was going to listen to her colleagues, and forge a cohesive and consultative party room process that catered to a range of views.

    Those many promises made for a mighty assignment. Nine months later, they’re mostly unfulfilled.
