    Dropped to 5th in order, Betts smashes 2 HRs on 4-hit night

    PHILADELPHIA — As the calendar flipped from June to July, a resurgent stretch for Mookie Betts turned into a period of regression. So manager Dave Roberts took action, dropping his shortstop to fifth in the order for Monday night's series opener against the Phillies.

    The move may have unlocked something in Betts, who responded with his second multihomer game of 2026 as part of a season-high four-hit showing. It was the lowest Betts hit in the order since 2015 as a member of the Red Sox.

    "That was certainly a nice silver lining for tonight," Roberts said. "All of his at-bats were really good. … I just saw that fire tonight. The good conviction in the swings."

    How to watch Phillies vs. Dodgers with one game on national TV

    PHILADELPHIA — The Phillies and the Los Angeles Dodgers will meet for three games at Citizens Bank Park beginning on Monday.

    The 2025 NLDS rematch will feature one game on national TV for fans in the Philadelphia area. Tuesday’s game is on TBS for fans outside of the Philadelphia and Los Angeles television markets. Monday’s game is an ESPN exclusive.

    It should be an exciting matchup. The Phillies have their top two starters, Cristopher Sánchez and Zack Wheeler, lined up to pitch Monday and Tuesday. Shohei Ohtani (left knee soreness) will not pitch in this series and will be limited to DH-only duties for the foreseeable future. He played catch in the outfield pregame on Monday.

    The Dodgers face the Pittsburgh Pirates for three games before departing for the South Side for a three-game interleague set versus the Chicago White Sox. For a club that has yet to fully find its stride offensively, things are still pretty good in Dodgers Land. Los Angeles is 18 games over .500 and owns a comfy 7 1/2 game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West. Still, perhaps the top of the order can start producing more consistently, starting with the player named in our first question.

    Dodgers’ Dave Roberts explains eye-opening Mookie Betts lineup decision

    Dave Roberts explained his reasoning for putting Mookie Betts on the leadoff spot in the Dodgers' series finale vs. the Diamondbacks.

    On Thursday night, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts decided to shake up the lineup order in the final game of a three-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Typically over the past few seasons, the Dodgers have utilized Shohei Ohtani as the leadoff hitter. But Roberts switched it up, instead deploying Mookie Betts to lead the lineup with Ohtani having the day off after shutting out the Diamondbacks on Wednesday in a 7-0 win.

    The lineup order scarcely mattered for the Dodgers, as they ended up running into the buzzsaw that was Ryne Nelson on the mound. Nelson threw seven innings and allowed just two earned runs on five hits. Betts, in a new leadoff role, went 0-4, as his struggles at the plate continued.
