Dual premiership Kangaroo David King believes North Melbourne can’t justify extending coach Alastair Clarkson’s contract, questioning the club’s conservative game style and player development, despite an improved 2026 season.
Clarkson, who’s guided the Roos to an 8-8 record so far this year and put them in wildcard contention, is out of contract at the Kangaroos at the end of next season.

Kangaroos coach Alastair Clarkson is contracted until the end of the 2027 season, with reports suggesting the club are interested in re-committing to a longer deal with the legendary coach.
North Melbourne president Sonja Hood joined 3AW Football and was asked about Clarkson’s future at the club.
“As far I’m concerned, Clarko has an 18-month contract to run,” Hood said on 3AW Football.
