Crunch phone call looms after agent’s bombshell Nawaqanitawase reveal

Les Kiss is set to finally pick up the phone and dial Mark Nawaqanitawase in what looms as a high-stakes conversation ahead of next year’s home Rugby World Cup.

A News Corp report on Tuesday set a cat among the pigeons, with Nawaqanitawase’s agent claiming that the code-hopping superstar was considering representing Fiji instead of the Wallabies.

Nawaqanitawase scored six tries in 11 Tests for the Wallabies in 2022-23, before embarking on a spectacularly successful NRL stint with the Sydney Roosters.

The 26-year-old winger is now returning to rugby to start a two-year deal with the Saitama Wild Knights that will reportedly earn him around $3 million.

Suaalii keen for swift Wallabies return of Marky Mark

You've used all of your gift articles. 3 more will become available on the 1st of every month.

Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii has lauded the skills of his former Roosters teammate Mark Nawaqanitawase and said he hopes the flyer will rejoin the Wallabies as early as next month on the spring tour.

However, that prospect remains up in the air. Wallabies coach Les Kiss and Nawaqanitawase are yet to discuss plans, and talks are also ongoing between Rugby Australia and the winger’s new Japanese club, Panasonic Saitama Wild Knights.

Nawaqanitawase is contracted with the Roosters until the end of the month but switches back to rugby next month on a two-season, $3 million deal with Panasonic. The return was also driven by Nawaqanitawase’s desire to play at the Rugby World Cup next year in Australia.

Younger Australians face a harder path to wealth, report shows

Home ownership rates among young people are lower than in the 1980s. (ABC News: John Gunn)

Australia's latest Intergenerational Report shows younger generations are working longer and finding it harder to build wealth and buy a home than those before them.

Falling fertility and an aging population are also expected to reshape the economy and put greater pressure on government spending in the next 40 years.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers says the government is tackling these challenges through housing tax changes and measures to boost Australia's workforce, skills and productivity.

Younger Australians face working longer and struggling more to buy a home without the same early gains in income and wealth experienced by the generations before them.

There will be more Australians dying than being born in 40 years’ time, according to the government’s latest intergenerational report, which lays bare the fundamental challenges of managing an ageing population at a time of rapid change and lower economic growth.

The country’s seventh IGR also outlines how Australia is at the cusp of a new and uncertain age of artificial intelligence that will shape the economy and society over the coming four decades.

Bombshell calls send NRL halves market into rare frenzy

Intriguing contract decisions by a few of the NRL’s top halfbacks are set to send the No.7 market into overdrive.

It’s not often a representative playmaker becomes available to rival clubs, given teams try to lock them down with contract extensions well before rivals are permitted to come knocking.

But it seems there could be a number of the game’s best playmakers up for grabs when the November 1 contract reset rolls around.

Sam Walker shocked the Roosters this week by delaying a decision on a four-year extension reportedly worth $5 million.

At the same time, Nathan Cleary is in no rush to recommit to the Panthers and looks likely to become a free agent come the end of October.

Sam Walker’s $5m knockback and contract leaks a sign of times in NRL’s wild player market

Trent Robinson is at ease with Sam Walker knocking back a five-year, $5 million-plus Roosters contract extension and the tax-free PNG Chiefs poaching threat, but he chipped his star halfback’s management for playing out talks in public.

Walker and the Roosters have agreed to pause negotiations on a long-term extension until after the season, with the Queensland Origin No.7 backing himself to deliver a 2026 title and justify an upgraded offer in the process.

Robinson’s pre-game press conference ahead of Thursday’s top-of-the-table clash against Penrith was waylaid by a News Corp report that Walker’s camp was underwhelmed by the Tricolours’ latest extension offer on Tuesday.

Gould, Gallen grill ‘smoke job’ that flipped ugly Doueihi narrative

Phil Gould has delivered a stern warning to the Wests Tigers, urging everyone inside the four walls to stop leaking information to the media in the wake of Adam Doueihi’s public falling out with head coach Benji Marshall.

In the latest crisis to hit the joint venture, Doueihi walked out of training last week and refused to play in the Tigers’ round 21 loss against Canberra.

His grievances reportedly stemmed from being told by Marshall that he would be playing lock instead of halfback, allowing young gun Javon Andrews to debut.

Bombshell $1.2m call to turn Luai windfall into ‘romantic’ homecoming… and ‘unlock’ Tigers

The Wests Tigers sent shockwaves through the rugby league world earlier this week when they dropped a mid-season bombshell.

On Thursday afternoon, reports emerged from CODE Sports that the club had granted five-eighth and co-captain Jarome Luai permission to depart the as early as the end of this season.

“We’re all fine. Obviously its not ideal before a game but we’re all locked in and we won’t use that as an excuse tonight,” Adam Doueihi said on Fox League.

Luai was supposed to lead Tigers back to the finals. He’s leaving after 18 months. What went wrong?

When Jarome Luai flew to Port Moresby on a private jet and signed with the PNG Chiefs in April, the Wests Tigers took the loss of their $6 million star with good grace.

It was an opportunity “too good to refuse” for Luai, admitted Tigers coach Benji Marshall, who waived the 10-day cooling-off period and set about planning for the future while vowing the club would make the most of their co-captain for the 18 months they had left with him.

The team had at that point won five of their first seven games – three of the victories chalked up while Luai was absent with a knee injury – and were riding high on the NRL ladder.

Ravindra puts New Zealand in dominant position after England fail to take advantage

Things can change quickly in cricket. Just as England thought a reset had occurred with the win at Lord’s, only for a late night in Chelsea and defeat at the Oval to put paid to that notion, so the nature of the pitch lurched significantly on a gripping third day here.

Gone was the road on which the ball repeatedly raced across the parched outfield during the first two days and in its place – influenced by a slight drop in temperature and cloud cover – was a more capricious strip of earth. It offered lateral movement and inconsistent bounce, and led to 11 wickets falling.

MotoGP bombshell: Champ leader cops ban over ‘wholly unacceptable’ act

World championship leader Marco Bezzecchi is banned from racing in Sunday’s Czech Grand Prix in an astonishing ruling after the sprint.

After crashing out from fifth-place on Saturday, Bezzecchi was furious, with vision showing him running towards a marshal, who was helping recover his bike, before striking him twice in the face.

His actions saw him summoned to the stewards for unsportmanlike behavious, before an incredible ruling was handed down.

“You pushed and struck circuit Marshals who were trying to recover your machine,” read a statement.

FIM MotoGP Stewards suspend Bezzecchi from the Czech GP

Emotions boiled over on Saturday following his crash out the Sprint, leaving the #72 on the sidelines for Sunday

Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) will not take part in the Czech GP Grand Prix race. Following his crash out of the Tissot Sprint in Brno, the Italian was involved in an altercation with a marshal and was called to see the FIM MotoGP Stewards.

The FIM MotoGP Stewards document, which explains that they have suspended Bezzecchi from the Czech GP, says that “following a crash you pushed and struck circuit Marshals who were trying to recover your machine.”

That is an infringement of Article 3.3.2.2, an action “prejudicial to the interests of the sport”.

Marco Bezzecchi suspended for marshal incident in Brno MotoGP Sprint

MotoGP title leader Marco Bezzecchi has been suspended from the 2026 Czech Grand Prix.

Marco Bezzecchi’s Saturday at the Brno MotoGP has got a lot worse after the world championship leader was suspended from Sunday's grand prix for an altercation with marshals in the Sprint.

The incident, not broadcast on the live TV coverage, occurred while marshals were recovering Bezzecchi’s fallen Aprilia from the Turn 3 gravel trap with two laps to go.

As the bike was being lifted, one of the marshals appeared to accidentally twist the throttle of the RS-GP, causing the engine to rev.

The FIM MotoGP Stewards state that Bezzecchi then "pushed and struck circuit Marshals who were trying to recover your machine."

Perth Bears General Manager of Football, David Sharpe APM OAM, has resigned from the NRL's newest franchise before the team has even been fully assembled.

In a club statement, Sharpe announced he had decided to exit the Bears.

She claimed there's "been a lot of chatter" back in Adelaide where both Alissa and fellow bride Bec are from.

"Chatter about Bec trying to actually dig shit up on Alissa," she alleged.

MAFS viewers divided over controversial reason behind bride Gia's unexpected walkout

Gia Fleur left Married At First Sight viewers shocked on Monday night after she dramatically left the experiment. The 35-year-old and her husband, Scott McCristal, have spent much of the 2026 season bragging about being the "power couple".

It was sparked by a photo of Scott's ex coming up on his phone and Gia asked him to delete it. He refused and she said she was done.
