    Berkshire Hathaway boosts Alphabet to a top three holding, ups Delta and housing bets

    Berkshire Hathaway sharply increased its stake in Alphabet in the second quarter, vaulting the Google parent into its three biggest stock holdings. The sprawling conglomerate also added to the size of its investments in Delta Air Lines and various homebuilders.

    Berkshire, now operating under CEO Greg Abel, owned about 106 million Alphabet shares worth $37.9 billion at the end of June, according to a regulatory filing released Friday. The size of the position jumped 83% in the latest quarter, making Alphabet the third-largest U.S.-listed equity holding at Omaha-based Berkshire by market value. Only investments in Apple and American Express are larger.

    SriLankan Airlines Expands Passenger Connectivity Across Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka

    SriLankan Airlines is pleased to announce strategic partnerships with Saudia (SV) and Flynas (XY), further strengthening air travel links between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka. This collaboration significantly expands SriLankan Airlines’ network reach, enabling travellers to access a wider range of destinations through convenient domestic and international connections.

    Under this arrangement, Saudia provides access to seven international and thirteen domestic destinations, while Flynas contributes an additional eight international and six domestic destinations, offering passengers greater travel flexibility and improved accessibility across the Kingdom.

    Through Saudia’s network, passengers can connect from destinations including Amman, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Cairo, Dubai, Kuwait City and Los Angeles, together with key domestic points such as Jeddah, Abha, Madinah and Tabuk, among others across Saudi Arabia. Flynas further extends the network with international services from Addis Ababa, Karachi, Giza, Tashkent and Sohag, alongside domestic connectivity from cities including Jizan, Najran, Dammam and Jeddah.

    VALENCIA, Spain (AP) — Levante scored in the last minute of stoppage time to beat Elche 3-2 in La Liga on Friday and notch a first home win that boosted its chances of avoiding a quick return to Spain’s second tier.

    Levante came into the match as the only club which had not won at home this season and that record did not look like ending after it went behind to an Alvaro Rodriguez goal after 11 minutes.

    However, Pablo Martinez levelled five minutes into the second half with a brilliantly executed flick.

    Adrián de la Fuente put Levante ahead midway through the second period only for Adam Boayar to equalize for Elche in stoppage time with a stunning overhead kick.

    Elche will be bidding to boost their outside European hopes when they continue their La Liga campaign with a clash against struggling Levante on Friday night.

    Government boosts home battery spend by $5 billion

    Federal Energy Minister Chris Bowen has announced big changes to the government's battery subsidy scheme amid claims most of its $2.3 billion budget has been spent in just six months.

    The minister unveiled the $5 billion shake-up today while addressing the solar and battery industries, which are increasingly worried about the risks of a boom-bust cycle fuelled by the scheme.

    Under the program, announced in the run-up to the election in April and which came into effect in July, households and small businesses can claim rebates on the upfront cost of batteries.

    Discounts for larger systems will be wound back under a popular home battery scheme as the program’s budget is tripled.

    The federal subsidy, which has been in place for five months, will get a generous top-up to $7.2bn across four years after initially being earmarked to cost $2.3bn, the energy minister, Chris Bowen, said.

    The fund was thought to be running out rapidly, in part because households were installing systems up to the maximum subsidised size to take full advantage of the one-time offer.
