Viva Energy's chief executive, Scott Wyatt, has defended a massive jump in the company's refining profit margins amid surging fuel prices.

Earlier this week, Viva reported a Geelong refining margin of $US22 a barrel over the first quarter, only one month of which was affected by the spike in oil prices associated with the Iran conflict.

Those margins were almost three times higher than the $US7.90 a barrel recorded in the first quarter of last year, and come on top of the rise in crude oil prices, which are up about $US30 a barrel since the beginning of the Iran war on February 28.

Researchers from the Austrian Academy of Sciences and University of Vienna last year discovered a way to reset a quantum particle to its prior state, effectively rewinding time for a single atom or electron. Now, another breakthrough in time travel has been made: there is a portal at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium which takes those who enter it back precisely 2½ years.

Spurs have unveiled a new manager, Roberto De Zerbi. Having deployed a classic relegation “firefighter” in Igor Tudor – only to discover he was an accidental arsonist – they have pivoted 180 degrees to another front-footed, progressive coach, who is more in line with the club’s preferred identity.

Roberto De Zerbi targets ‘Ange-ball’ revival to save Spurs from relegation

Roberto De Zerbi intends to bring back “Ange-ball” as he attempts to prevent Tottenham’s first relegation in 49 years.

De Zerbi has only seven games in which to impart his complex football philosophy to his players and wants to replicate the rampant, marauding style of the former manager Ange Postecoglou, who won Tottenham’s first trophy in 17 years but was dismissed after finishing 17th in the Premier League last season.

“I want to keep the ball,” De Zerbi said. “I want to see again the Tottenham I watched with Postecoglou because, in my second season in Brighton, there was Postecoglou here with a lot of these players and it was one of the best teams in terms of quality of play. With Pedro Porro, with [Destiny] Udogie, with [Micky] van de Ven, with [Cristian] Romero, and I would like to see it again.”

Bring back Angeball! New Spurs boss’ surprise nod to Aussie as relegation scrap heats up

New Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has declared that he wants to bring Angeball back to north London.

The Italian, who most recently managed Brighton and Marseille, is the third manager to charge of Spurs since Australian Ange Postecoglou was sacked last year.

Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor were ridiculed earlier in the season for their dull style of play which helped plunge Tottenham to the depths of a relegation battle.

So, now De Zerbi wants to bring back the electricity of Postecoglou’s aggressive tactics which yielded a fifth place Premier League season in the former Celtic boss’ first season and, of course, the Europa League trophy in his second season.

'Uncontrolled, aggressive, and violent' – Marseille boss rages after Mason Greenwood 'seriously injured' by tackle

Marseille manager Habib Beye has fiercely criticised the refereeing following his team's 2-1 home defeat to Lille. The OM boss was furious after English forward Mason Greenwood was forced off with an injury early in the match. Beye condemned a sequence of heavy challenges, specifically calling out Hakon Haraldsson for a violent push that he believes warranted a straight red card.

Beye did not hold back in his post-match assessment following the 2-1 loss on Sunday. The controversy ignited in the 13th minute when Greenwood spearheaded a rapid counter-attack but was brought down by a late, lunging tackle from Lille defender Calvin Verdonk. The heavy collision sent the winger flying and immediately incensed the home bench. Although the forward attempted to play on after the foul, the severity of the challenge proved too much. He lasted just five more minutes before being substituted in the 18th minute, completely altering the dynamic of the high-stakes Ligue 1 clash.

VIDEO: Brawl breaks out after Mason Greenwood is wiped out and Marseille star forced off injured against Lille

Marseille’s high-stakes Ligue 1 clash with Lille descended into chaos early on Sunday as a brutal challenge on Mason Greenwood sparked a massive on-pitch brawl. The English forward was left incensed after being wiped out mid-counter, leading to a confrontation that saw players from both sides clash at the Stade Velodrome. Greenwood was also unable to continue and had to be replaced after the tackle.

After three consecutive victories in Ligue 1, Marseille suffered a setback at home against Lille. Despite taking the lead through Ethan Nwaneri in the 43rd minute to head into half-time in front, Marseille were undone in the second half as Lille responded quickly, with Thomas Meunier equalizing in the 49th minute. Veteran French striker Olivier Giroud then snatched a dramatic late winner for the visitors in the 86th minute.

The former spy chief Dennis Richardson has resigned without explanation from the royal commission into antisemitism and the Bondi terror attack, just a fortnight after its opening hearing.

The commissioner, Virginia Bell, released a statement on Wednesday night announcing Richardson’s surprise departure from his role as special adviser to the inquiry.

Expressing “gratitude” for his work, Bell said: “As I noted at the Commission’s initial hearing, Mr Richardson was uniquely well placed to advise on the material to be sought from our intelligence and security agencies in order to assess the effectiveness of their preparedness for, and response to, a terrorist attack.”

The Albanese government’s Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion has suffered a major setback with the resignation of Dennis Richardson whose role was to probe whether intelligence failures were a factor in last year’s Bondi massacre.

Richardson declined to comment on why he walked away from his special advisory role, but it is understood he had become increasingly frustrated with the legal processes and felt he was wasting his time.

Former ASIO boss Dennis Richardson has quit his position as special adviser to the antisemitism royal commission, just weeks before commissioner Virginia Bell is due to deliver her interim report into the performance of the nation’s intelligence and police agencies.

Bell announced Richardson’s shock resignation in a statement on Wednesday night, surprising peak Jewish community groups who were racing to find out why he had abruptly stepped down.

Richardson’s resignation represents a difficult start for the royal commission, which is scrambling to meet tight deadlines set for it by the government and carving out key areas of enquiry to avoid prejudicing the criminal trial into the massacre.

Aston Martin warns engine vibrations could risk permanent nerve damage for Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll and reveals they may not finish opening Australian Grand Prix. (5:05)

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has hit back at drivers criticizing the sport's new regulations, saying it is "wrong" for the likes of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton to speak negatively about F1.

This weekend's Australian Grand Prix will mark the start of a new era of F1, which has been heralded as the biggest rule change in the sport's 76-year history.

Five things Max Verstappen hates about the new F1 cars

Max Verstappen is rarely short of an unvarnished opinion, but even by his standards he’s been shockingly blunt about the all-new 2026 Formula 1 cars. In short, he hates them.

With a new powertrain that relies more on electric energy, narrower tyres, more complex aerodynamic rules and a requirement for the driver to carefully manage energy deployment, the cars are a long way from the sort of pure racing Verstappen adores.

It could still be an intriguing season for spectators, but for Max? Well, here are five things he’s not so thrilled about:

This is the key complaint. The 2026 F1 car requires careful energy management, with the driver having to “harvest” a lot more electrical energy under braking to feed the new vehicles’ larger batteries.

Bottas bucks driver criticism of new F1 rules

While world champion Max Verstappen has famously described the new generation as Formula E on steroids, Bottas says he actually enjoys driving them.

I like that the cars are smaller and lighter than before, the Cadillac driver told Iltalehti.

You can tell when you're driving. The car doesn't feel as big, clumsy and heavy as it used to.

The 36-year-old Finn admitted the behaviour of the cars has changed significantly.

The difference from before is significant, he said. The drivability of the engine, how it behaves, and how you have to play with the batteries in the corners and on the straights require a very different driving style.

Erasmus backs Robertson to thrive after All Blacks exit

The respect remains between Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus and his former All Blacks counterpart, Scott Robertson.

Erasmus has reacted for the first time to Robertson’s departure and the pending appointment of his replacement before New Zealand’s tour to the republic in August and September.

The four-time World Cup winners had
a 3-1 record against Robertson’s All Blacks since the former Crusaders coach took the reins at the start of the 2024 season, including inflicting the biggest ever defeat on New Zealand – a 43-10 thumping in Wellington.

Robertson departed the role on January 16 and it was announced last week he will coach the Barbarians against Erasmus’ Springboks in his first job since leaving New Zealand.

'Marshals' Boss & Luke Grimes Explain the Reason Behind Monica Dutton's Fate (Exclusive)

Heading into the Marshals series premiere, fans were eagerly awaiting an update on the fate of Kayce Dutton’s (Luke Grimes) wife and Tate’s (Brecken Merrill) mother, Broken Rock Tribe member Monica (Kelsey Asbille). She’s been very notably missing from any pre-premiere previews, and Asbille wasn’t part of the cast list.

The series didn’t make fans wait long during the March 1 premiere of the latest Yellowstone spinoff, as it, while introducing the new chapter of Kayce’s life, revealed just why that is. Warning: Spoilers for the Marshals premiere ahead!

The first episode of the new series revealed the shocking and tragic news that Monica Dutton had died of cancer. Fans had suspected the worst when Asbille’s character didn’t appear in the preview trailer but held out hope.

Although some Yellowstone fans would fight me on this, I’d argue Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) was the most interesting Dutton sibling in the recently concluded Taylor Sheridan neo-Western juggernaut. In that show, John Dutton (Kevin Costner) had four kids. Lee (Dave Annable): died in Season 1, Episode 1; we barely knew ye. Jamie (Wes Bentley): adopted son, lawyer, certified snake so irredeemable his character stopped being entertaining long before the show wrapped up. Beth (Kelly Reilly): ride-or-die for John, always seething and saying intense things through her teeth.

Anthropic boss rejects Pentagon demand to drop AI safeguards

Anthropic has said it will not back down in a fight with the US Department of Defense (DoD) over how its artificial intelligence (AI) technology is used.

The firm's chief executive Dario Amodei said on Thursday that his company would rather not work with the Pentagon than agree to uses of its tech that may "undermine, rather than defend, democratic values."

His comments come two days after a meeting with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth over demands that Anthropic accept "any lawful use" of its tools. It ended with a threat to remove Anthropic from the DoD's supply chain.

Donald Trump said Friday he will direct all federal agencies to “IMMEDIATELY CEASE” all use of Anthropic technology.

The Department of Defense and Anthropic hit an impasse with neither side backing down as a deadline for an agreement lapsed on Friday afternoon. The Pentagon had demanded the artificial intelligence company loosen ethical guidelines on its AI systems or face severe consequences.

Trump weighed in just an hour before the deadline, saying on Truth Social: “The Leftwing nut jobs at Anthropic have made a DISASTROUS MISTAKE trying to STRONG-ARM the Department of War, and force them to obey their Terms of Service instead of our Constitution.”

Exclusive: Anthropic Drops Flagship Safety Pledge

Anthropic, the wildly successful AI company that has cast itself as the most safety-conscious of the top research labs, is dropping the central pledge of its flagship safety policy, company officials tell TIME.

In 2023, Anthropic committed to never train an AI system unless it could guarantee in advance that the company’s safety measures were adequate. For years, its leaders touted that promise—the central pillar of their Responsible Scaling Policy (RSP)—as evidence that they are a responsible company that would withstand market incentives to rush to develop a potentially dangerous technology.

But in recent months the company decided to radically overhaul the RSP. That decision included scrapping the promise to not release AI models if Anthropic can’t guarantee proper risk mitigations in advance.
