Half-time postbag. “Have to say Spurs look absolutely miles off it so far although Brentford have been excellent. If anything, this looks as bad as last season’s Spurs. At least there are 37 games left to improve” – Martin Gamage

“Last season Spurs were lousy, and they will not be better this season, just like Manchester United. It is an utter disgrace, and also a reflection on society, that players like Tonali are bought for 100 million and yet so many people live in poverty in England” – Jeff Sax

Premier League live scores: Brentford lead Tottenham after Hull stun Man Utd; wins for Leeds, Everton and Ipswich

The opening weekend of the Premier League season continues today with five games taking place.

Hull City caused an upset in the opening game, beating Manchester United 2-0.

So much for a fresh start in the new season — Brentford look comfortable and go into the break with a commanding lead.

Tonali booming a volley over on 40 minutes sums Spurs up right now. For all the money they have spent in midfield, him included, they are being completely overrun.

Gallagher does not look comfortable at No 10, while Richarlison found himself in a mismatch trying to receive the ball to feet from Kinsky, with that turnover leading to Brentford’s second.

There is only one place to start with Brentford’s Michael Kayode: his unique baby gender reveal at an empty Gtech Community Stadium in February. The 21-year-old walked towards the West Stand, the frame of the goal covered in balloons, and after wiping the ball with a towel, it was time for his trademark long throw, though on this occasion only from the edge of the D. After the ball rippled the net, pink smoke confirmed his partner, Eleonora, is expecting a girl.

Man City v Brentford team news: Henderson set for return to Bees squad

"The squad are good, they're full of energy, and they've had a really good week," said Andrews.

"I'm not long off the training pitch and there's a good energy around it; everyone's in a pretty good place.

"Vitaly will be a little bit closer now, with another week's training under his belt. He did well to even be involved last weekend, and we wanted him to be in the squad.

"Jordan will be involved tomorrow; he's had a good week's training as well.

"Rico was back on the grass on Friday, but he won't be involved… he's not ready yet."

Brentford vs. Fulham prediction, where to watch, time for Premier League match

The Premier League's Saturday slate kicks off with Brentford hosting Fulham at Gtech Community Stadium in a West London derby.

The Bees are in seventh place in the table and have drawn their last four league matches, most recently a 2-2 result against Everton last weekend.

Keith Andrews' side holds a three-point edge over the Fulham in the standings and currently sit in the final European spot.

Fulham occupy 12th place after a 2-0 loss at Liverpool in their most recent outing and have four points in their last four matches.

The Cottagers have been shut out in three of those four games, leaving Marco Silva's squad in need of a spark in attack heading into this derby.

Nathan Collins: ‘I Know How Hard Andrews Has Worked’ As He Backs Brentford Coach

Brentford defender nathan collins said he was “buzzing” for Keith Andrews after the coach’s promotion to head coach, praising the balance in his man-management and the long path Andrews took to the role.

Collins, who has known Andrews since he was 16 and had him with the Under-17s setup for Ireland, welcomed the coach’s elevation from set-piece coach to head coach. He noted that Andrews’ appointment over the summer drew external scepticism because it was his first senior head coach role, but Collins said that view did not match what he had seen personally. “I have known Keith a long time – since I was 16, ” he said, adding that he was “buzzing for him as I know how hard he has worked. “

Brentford have won five of their past six Premier League away games

Burnley have last-gasp Ashley Barnes goal ruled out for handball in build-up

Relegation-threatened Burnley mounted a stirring comeback to overturn a 3-0 deficit, but were denied a remarkable point as Mikkel Damsgaard struck a dramatic 93rd‑minute winner to give Brentford a 4-3 victory at Turf Moor.

It looked like the visitors were heading for a comfortable win after goals from Damsgaard, Igor Thiago and Kevin Schade inside 34 minutes but Burnley dragged them back into the game.

Jaidon Anthony initiated the comeback as his driven cross was turned into his own goal by Michael Kayode in the dying seconds of the first half, before another strike from Anthony was helped on its way into the goal by Kayode less than two minutes after the restart.

Burnley v Brentford confirmed team news: Kayode returns, Kelleher out

Goalkeeper Hákon Valdimarsson also comes into the team for the absent Caoimhín Kelleher. On Kelleher, Andrews stated: "Caoimhín’s partner had a baby. We are delighted for them and we wish them well, but he couldn’t play today."

The other changes see Mikkel Damsgaard, Yehor Yarmoliuk and Kevin Schade replace Vitaly Janelt, Jordan Henderson and Keane Lewis-Potter, with the latter two named among the substitutes and Janelt unavailable with a knock.

19-year-old defender Ollie Shield is named on a Premier League bench for the first time, alongside Brentford B midfielder Luka Bentt, who made his debut in the FA Cup against Macclesfield.

Solly March is back in contention for Brighton & Hove Albion after knee injuries which have restricted him to 20 appearances in two-and-a-half seasons.

The versatile 31-year-old has resumed full training and is under consideration to be involved in Saturday’s trip to Brentford.

“Solly might be in the squad,” head coach Fabian Hurzeler said during his press briefing on Friday for the Brentford game. “He trained fully this week with the team. He made a good impression and he could be an option.”

March made ten appearances in the 2024-25 season before he was ruled out from April onwards. He was also limited to ten games in 2023-24 after a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament at Manchester City in October 2023 sidelined him for 14 months.

Newcastle still have a formidable home record this season. Before the 2-0 defeat by Aston Villa a fortnight ago, they’d not actually been toppled at St James’s Park in the Premier League since Arsenal beat them 2-1 in September. The FA Cup penalty shootout defeat to Bournemouth and the Carabao Cup shellacking by Manchester City have obviously dented the confidence somewhat, but on their home patch Eddie Howe’s side are strong.

It’s around about this time that I ask you for your score predictions – send them to me via email if you wish.

Latest. Eddie Howe's team news update: Gordon, Bruno latest ahead of Brentford visit

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe says there is "every chance" Anthony Gordon will miss this weekend's Premier League visit of Brentford – but hopes the winger's injury isn't a "serious" one.

Gordon was forced off during the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg defeat at Manchester City on Wednesday night, with the Magpies head coach confirming the England international had a hamstring problem.

United are back in league action against the Bees at St. James' Park on Saturday evening (kick-off 5:30pm GMT) and Howe is optimistic that Gordon – as well as captain Bruno Guimarães and midfielder Lewis Miley – could be fit enough to feature against Keith Andrews' men.

‘He took a knock in training’: Andrews provides update on Collins, Furo and Nelson

Forward Kevin Schade misses out though suspension having been shown a straight red card at Villa Park.

Josh Dasilva (knee ligament) remains sidelined, while Fábio Carvalho and Antoni Milambo will both miss the rest of the campaign due to ACL injuries.

“We’re disappointed not to have Kevin,” Andrews began. “We’ll miss him for the next two league games and the cup game against Macclesfield.

“Everyone else has come through a difficult game, for obvious reasons, having gone down to 10 men so early. It’s testament to the place we’re in – physically as a team. We’re pretty much as we were.

Brentford lose at home in Premier League for just the second time this season

Nottingham Forest gave their hopes of Premier League survival a major boost with a hard-fought win against Brentford at Gtech Community Stadium.

Goals from Igor Jesus and Taiwo Awoniyi proved decisive in a victory that moved them level on points with 16th-placed Leeds United, but crucially five clear of third-bottom West Ham.

Brentford began brightly and were unlucky not to open the scoring after just 94 seconds with Igor Thiago poking wide.

Igor Jesus and Awoniyi sink Brentford to ease Forest away from relegation danger

Nottingham Forest finished their rollercoaster week on the up, with three away points against Brentford restoring their five-point buffer from the relegation zone.

Mouthwatering goals from Forest’s maligned strikers, first Igor Jesus with a blaster then a solo effort from Taiwo Awoniyi, put memories of fan displeasure after defeat in the Europa League behind Sean Dyche and his team and confirmed four league points in eight days after their Arsenal draw. Awoniyi’s goal in particular was a welcome milestone, his first since being placed in an induced coma after he collided with a post at the end of last season.

Igor Thiago (right) has 14 goals in 20 Premier League appearances for Brentford this season

Brentford take lead through Igor Thiago's 12th goal of the season

Thiago makes it 3-0 to the Bees only a minute later before sealing hat-trick

Goals from Beto and Thierno Barry prove mere consolation for Everton

Igor Thiago scored a hat-trick to end his brief goal drought in style as Brentford leapfrogged Everton in the Premier League with a comfortable victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Thiago, who had failed to score in six league games in December, now has 14 goals this season – with only Manchester City's Erling Haaland in front of him on 19.

Things to know if travelling to Hill Dickinson Stadium

Due to planned engineering works, there will be no direct trains running between London to Liverpool on matchday.

The shortest route to Liverpool and back again will require a change in Birmingham.

Trains leave from London Marylebone every hour and arrive at Birmingham Moor Street station. From there, it is a short walk to Birmingham New Street station, where you can get a train to Liverpool Lime Street.

This journey to Liverpool will take you approximately four hours and 15 minutes, so please plan to leave early. Other routes are available but may take longer.

Once you arrive at Liverpool Lime Street, it is a short walk to Liverpool Central, where you can take a short train to Sandhills station, which is the closest station to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Brentford 4-1 Bournemouth: Kevin Schade hits a hat-trick as Bees claim impressive win

Kevin Schade doubled his goal tally for the season against Bournemouth

Kevin Schade scored a hat-trick as Brentford thrashed a lacklustre Bournemouth side who were unable to arrest their dismal recent run of form in the Premier League.

The victory lifted the Bees up to eighth in the English top flight, while the Cherries are 15th as their winless run extended to nine matches – a sequence stretching over two months.

The Germany forward outmuscled visiting defender Bafode Diakite before angling a low effort past onrushing Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.

Keith Andrews' side spurned several opportunities to extend their lead before adding a farcical second. Striker Igor Thiago's shot was partially blocked by Marcos Senesi and Petrovic, before Diakite's attempted clearance cannoned off his own goalkeeper and into the net.
