The Bureau of Meteorology says a tropical low in the Coral Sea east-north-east of Cairns will bring severe weather to the mainland from today.

A cyclone watch from Cooktown to Palm Island has been cancelled with the weather bureau calling the tropical low off Queensland "disorganised".

A severe weather warning has been issued for the far north Queensland Peninsula, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands due to heavy rain.

North Queensland is bracing for heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding as disorganised tropical low 29U approaches the mainland.

Rain could fall in Brisbane through the weekend and beyond, as a possible cyclone approaches the state’s north.

Showers are predicted in the south-east until Tuesday, with severe storms possible.

Daniel Hayes from the Bureau of Meteorology said the weather system off the coast near Cooktown might drive moisture towards Brisbane in coming days.

“We do start to see the increase in tropical moisture from later tomorrow and particularly over the weekend,” he said.

He said Sunday could be the wettest day, with an upper-level trough moving across the region.

After losing to the same opposition in their last game, Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to field in the day game against UP Warriorz (UPW) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Saturday.

MI made two changes from their last game, with Shabnim Ismail rested and Hayley Matthews coming in. Batter Poonam Khemnar was unavailable for the game, so they handed a debut to medium pacer Kranthi Reddy.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo prior to the start of the WPL season, MI's bowling coach and mentor Jhulan Goswami had said of Reddy: "She has been a special, talented cricketer. During the trials and domestic matches, our scouting coaches liked her accuracy. She was able to bowl consistent areas and also has a different kind of action – she has a little bit of a slingy kind of action, which is what we like about her."

There couldn’t be a faster way to put a loss behind us. Same opposition, same venue, in less than 48 hours, and we can safely get back on the winning track, forgetting that we ever got off it. We have a couple of games in our den in Navi Mumbai before we head to Vadodara, and with the Paltan back in the stands to back us for this game, we will give it our all to turn the tables against the UP Warriorz.

Lanning's wait is over as her WPL side win at last

Meg Lanning's UP Warriorz are off the mark after gaining their first WPL victory of the season

Meg Lanning's increasingly frustrated wait for a first Women's Premier League victory is over after her UP Warriorz side broke their duck against pacesetters Mumbai Indians.

The Aussie batter had scored a record-equalling 10th WPL half-century 24 hours earlier but was visibly disconsolate as her side were edged out in a last-ball thriller against her former side, Delhi Capitals.

It was a different story back at the Navi Mumbai ground on Thursday where the Warriorz celebrated a seven-wicket defeat of champions Mumbai, their first win in four attempts this season.
