Taylor Sheridan's Brutal Crime Thriller With Emily Blunt Is Taking Over HBO Max A Decade Later

Having created a raft of hugely popular neo-Western series, Taylor Sheridan is Paramount's golden boy. Soon, however, he'll leave Paramount for NBCUniversal following a 2025 deal he struck with the latter. In the meantime, he's currently proving popular over on HBO Max. Sheridan's best movie has just crept onto the film charts and looks set for a modest renaissance more than a decade after its debut.

"Sicario" is easily Sheridan's finest film. Though 2016's "Hell or High Water" is one of the great modern neo-Western movies and his 2017 directorial debut "Wind River" gave us Jeremy Renner at his best, "Sicario" is the movie that introduced Sheridan as a writing powerhouse. Of course, it helped immensely that Denis Villeneuve was directing. The Canadian filmmaker took Sheridan's story of a young female FBI agent forced to push her morals to their limit and delivered a haunting action thriller that lingers in the mind long after viewing. Led by a standout performance from Emily Blunt, the movie remains one of the best of the 2010s, which is why it's not at all surprising to see it garnering attention over on HBO Max.

Taylor Sheridan's Action Movie That Spawned 2 Trilogies Returns As Streaming Hit

Ryan Northrup is a Senior Staff Writer on ScreenRant's Movie & TV News team, where he has authored nearly 5,000 articles, including features and reviews. A graduate of McMaster University, Ryan began his career in public relations before attending Vancouver Film School. There, he built lasting industry connections and optioned a feature film screenplay.

Taylor Sheridan's best action movie just shot its way onto the streaming charts.

For many, Sheridan will be best known as the mastermind behind the Yellowstone universe, which continues in the form of spinoffs Marshals and Dutton Ranch. Sheridan also created shows like The Madison, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, and Landman. Outside of his work in TV, Sheridan is also accomplished in the realm of feature films, writing movies like Hell or High Water (2016), Wind River (2017), and Without Remorse (2021). While the wait continues for the Sheridan-penned Call of Duty movie, one of his most acclaimed movies is experiencing a resurgence with viewers.

Taylor Sheridan's 121-Minute Action Thriller Masterpiece Is Soaring on HBO Max

Taylor Sheridan is very well known these days for his work on the small screen, creating and producing a variety of very successful shows in recent years. Meanwhile, his action thriller that started a movie franchise is also back in the spotlight with a sudden surge on the streaming charts.

From out of nowhere, Sheridan's Sicario has cracked the list of the top 10 movies streaming on HBO Max in the United States. Per FlixPatrol, it is currently ranked at No. 9, rising above Pacific Rim: Uprising. The rise in streaming comes about 11 full years since Sicario was first released in theaters in 2015. At that time, it made nearly $85 million worldwide against a $30 million budget.

Broncos great’s brutal message to Hunt; Bears sign premiership winner — NRL Daily

Broncos legend Corey Parker has made the tough call to tell “great friend” Ben Hunt he should consider retiring at the end of this year.

Hunt has extended with the Broncos on a team-friendly one-year deal in June that will see him remain at Red Hill until the end of the year.

The 36-year-old will provide Brisbane with some much-needed experience following the retirement of Adam Reynolds, but the question is whether Hunt will be blocking Brisbane’s younger and more effective players from getting on the field more.

‘Tarnished legacy’ question lingers after costly Hunt moment

Corey Parker has again urged former teammate Ben Hunt to hang up the boots – and one costly moment could be all the proof the Broncos veteran needs.

Hunt has one of the most impressive resumes in the NRL and will finish this year with more than 370 first grade matches to go with 15 Tests for the Kangaroos and another 20 games at State of Origin level for his beloved Maroons.

The 36-year-old’s future has been the topic of much debate this season, especially with Brisbane’s fall from premiers to missing finals.

Parker and many others within the game have questioned whether it’s the right time for Hunt to step away from the sport after years of service.

In fact, he should have been in this position from the start even before the club extended Shane Flanagan.

And for anyone trying to question his character, I honestly don’t know what they’re talking about.

I know Dean well from my early days at the Dragons. Craig Young was head of football at the time and Dean was one of the senior players. One thing I’ll always remember about Dean was his ability to connect a club from top to bottom.

Reed to keep starting role after Dragons suffer Anzac Day belting

Interim Dragons coach Dean Young says young halfback Kade Reed will be starting in the number seven jersey in the club's next match.

Reed made his NRL debut on Anzac Day as the Dragons slumped to a 12th straight loss — a streak dating back to last year — with a 62-16 thumping by the Sydney Roosters.

The Dragons have a bye next weekend, before hosting the Newcastle Knights at Wollongong in round 10.

Dean Young has backed Kade Reed to remain St George Illawarra's halfback even after the Dragons slumped to a 62-16 thrashing in the 20-year-old's highly anticipated NRL debut.

‘That’s the game’: Big challenge for Dragons rookie as Roosters prepare to ruin Anzac Day debut

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson said just enough at his pre-match press conference to make Dragons debutant Kade Reed sleep a little less ahead of a daunting Anzac Day examination for the pint-sized halfback.

For more than a century, big rugby league players have targeted the small ones.

Reed, undoubtedly the skinniest and lightest No.7 in the NRL, knows he will have plenty of big bodies coming at him on Saturday afternoon at Allianz Stadium.

The 20-year-old said this week that tackling teammates Luciano Leilua and Jaydn Su’A had prepared him for the step-up to first grade. Robinson, however, offered a pointed reminder of what awaits, with Roosters enforcers Angus Crichton and Siua Wong primed to test the rookie’s resolve and make his afternoon as unpleasant as possible.

Dragons CEO sets checklist for new coaching role

The St George Illawarra Dragons are continuing to map out the long-term direction of the club, with CEO Tim Watsford confirming there is no set timeline for appointing a permanent head coach to replace Shane Flanagan.

While Dean Young has stepped into the interim role in the short term, the club's immediate focus has shifted away from urgency in the coaching search and towards establishing a clear framework for what the next appointment must deliver.

A key pillar of that framework is expected to be junior development and recruitment oversight, with the Dragons determined to better retain and nurture their emerging talent within the club system.

‘Why they sacked him’: Nelson rocked by Storm taunt; Tszyu’s ‘kryptonite’ shutdown at presser

Jarrod Wallace caught rival Nelson Asofa-Solomona “off-guard” with a pointed NRL sledge ahead of their blockbuster heavyweight showdown, while Tim Tszyu delivered a frank warning to Denis Nurja.

Just days out from the stacked Easter Sunday card in Wollongong, Wallace blasted ‘Big Nasty’ for “walking around like he’s Tim Tszyu” as the fighters squared off at Thursday’s official press conference.

Nelson Asofa-Solomona is pledging to knock Jarrod Wallace's lights out after copping a loose verbal low blow from his heavyweight former NRL rival.

The two ex-front rowers will square off on the undercard to Tim Tszyu's all-or-nothing super-welterweight showdown with Albanian brawler Denis Nurja in Wollongong on Sunday.

After turning his back on rugby league to pursue a boxing career, Asofa-Solomona KO'ed fellow ex-NRL star Jeremy Latimore in the opening round of an explosive debut in January.

Just days after Pauline Hanson and Holly Valance’s “Kiss Kiss (XX) My Arse” topped the iTunes best-selling chart, the controversial song has been removed from Apple Music.

The track, released on January 26th, was a reworked version of Valance’s early-2000s hit “Kiss Kiss”, reimagined with new lyrics taking aim at what Hanson described as “woke culture”, including references to gender identity and progressive politics. Valance co-wrote and performed the updated version, which quickly attracted attention amid Australia Day discourse.
