    ‘Smart move’: Great’s praise for Socceroo as $1.64m move revealed

    The first transfer domino for Australia’s Socceroos stars is set to fall with midfielder Paul Okon-Engstler reportedly set to join Bundesliga club FC Koln.

    Okon-Engstler only returned to Australia late last week to return to pre-season training with Sydney FC and is now scheduled to make the trip to Germany to undergo the final medical to join Koln, as per football reporter Fabrizio Romano.

    Sydney FC are set to agree to a $1.64m AUD transfer fee for the 21-year-old midfielder, who inked a three-year deal with the A-League team in July last year.

    Australian great Mark Schwarzer, who warned the young Socceroos breakout stars to really consider there next move at club level, was excited to hear about the reported transfer for Okon-Engstler.

    Paul Okon-Engstler is the first transfer domino to fall for the Socceroos after the World Cup, according to reports.

    Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday that Bundesliga side 1. FC Koln has snapped up the 21-year-old midfielder for 1 million euros.

    The deal pockets Sydney FC about A$1.65m, with Romano reporting the deal will be made official, pending a medical, next week.

    Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg also reported Okon-Engstler has agreed a contract until 2030.

    Okon-Engstler — son of Socceroos great Paul — was a surprise starter in Australia’s 2-0 World Cup win over Turkiye and turned in an impressive performance, which included a sublime assist to Nestory Irankunda for the opening goal.

    „Hat seine komplette Nase verloren“

    Die Schlussphase beim wilden 3:3 (1:2) bei Bayern München war für den 1. FC Heidenheim in doppelter Hinsicht schmerzhaft. Verteidiger Jonas Föhrenbach erlitt bei einem heftigen Zusammenprall mit seinem eigenen Torhüter Diant Ramaj eine Fraktur der Nase, dann glich der Rekordmeister Sekunden vor Schluss aus.

    „Der Föhre hat seine komplette Nase verloren“, kommentierte Abwehrspieler Patrick Mainka bei Sky. „Die Nase ist gebrochen, ist durch“, bestätigte Trainer Frank Schmidt. Er selbst sei das beste Beispiel dafür, wie eine Nase Jahre nach einer Fraktur aussehe, ergänzte er mit einem Lächeln. Dass Föhrenbach trotz der Verletzung nochmal aufs Feld kam und versuchte, das 3:2 über die Zeit zu bringen, „war Wille pur, ich weiß nicht, wieso wir dieses Spiel am Ende nicht gewinnen können. Das ist Wahnsinn“, sagte Schmidt.
