Tottenham agree £100m deal to buy Sandro Tonali from Newcastle

Newcastle have agreed to sell the Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali to Tottenham in an initial £92.5m deal that could rise to £100m should the north London side achieve serial Champions League qualifications.

Providing the transfer’s formalities proceed as planned it will represent a club record for Tottenham, who on Tuesday agreed to pay £85m for the West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

The Spurs head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, is believed to have told Tonali he intends rebuilding his side around him and Tonali is said to be enthused by both his fellow Italian’s vision for Tottenham and the chance to live in London.

Tottenham are set to break their record transfer fee for the second time in consecutive days after they reached an agreement to sign Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi made Italy international Tonali a crucial summer target and despite interest in the 26-year-old from Manchester City and Arsenal, he has decided to work under his compatriot in north London.

1 Software Stock to Buy Before It Doubles, According to Select Analysts

2026 has not been kind to software stocks. Fears that more companies will use generative AI products for a broader set of software needs have led many analysts to rerate earnings multiples for companies that rely on the typically predictable software-as-a-service (SaaS) model.

One of the hardest-hit companies in the sector is Atlassian (TEAM +8.26%), which saw its stock drop almost 90% from its all-time high. Shares have started to recover, but one analyst still sees significant upside. In fact, Piper Sandler's team thinks the stock can double from here, recently setting a share price target of $175.

That's not an unreasonable expectation either, as Atlassian benefits from high retention rates and multiple tailwinds that can drive earnings growth through the end of the decade, despite the challenge posed by artificial intelligence (AI).

Atlassian Shares Jump 8% on Friday, Eyes on Monday for AI Interest

Atlassian shares jumped 8.16% to $87.46 on Friday, snapping back from earlier losses, while the rest of tech stumbled. Still, TEAM closed the week down roughly 4.5% from where it stood at $91.60 after the May 8 session.

Timing is key. Investors want to see if Atlassian’s AI push turns product news into sales, as buyers look at budgets and compare Atlassian against bigger software rivals and new project-management tools.

Atlassian shares aren’t trading in the regular session on Saturday because Nasdaq’s normal market hours are Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern. That puts the focus on Monday’s open to see if Friday’s bounce continues.

Racing to buy a home battery? Read this first

Since July 2025, more than 260,000 households, businesses and organisations have installed home batteries under the federal government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program.

The program offers a discount of about 30% on the upfront cost of installing eligible small-scale battery systems, which help cut power costs while taking pressure off the main electricity grid.

But from May 1, the government is changing how it calculates this discount. This is to keep the rebate sustainable as battery costs fall, while also discouraging people from installing oversized systems.

For a typical household battery with a storage capacity of about 10–13 kilowatt-hours (kWh), the May 1 rebate change will likely reduce upfront costs by between A$600 and $800.

Rooftop solar surges to new high on back of battery boom

Australia’s rooftop solar market climbed by 31% in the past month with the latest data revealing that a record 442 MW of small-scale PV capacity was installed across the country in April 2026.

Australian households and businesses installed more rooftop solar last month than in any other month on record with new data from solar and storage market analyst SunWiz showing 442 MW of sub-100 kW rooftop PV capacity was registered nationwide in April 2026.

This marked a 31% increase on the 341 MW registered across the country in March and is almost double the 225 MW of new capacity registered in April 2025.

“We have now reached the strongest month in the history of STC (small-scale technology certificates),” SunWiz Managing Director Warwick Johnston said, adding that the market is now running 35% ahead of the same point in 2025.

The next step after solar: understanding modular home batteries

Paid content is paid for and controlled by an advertiser and produced by the Guardian Labs team.

Many Australians with rooftop solar are looking into adding battery storage. A modular solution can be scaled up, or down, as needed.

4.3m homes and small businesses have solar panels installed, says the Clean Energy Council. Households are turning sunlight into electricity, reducing emissions and trimming power bills. But once those panels are up and running, many homeowners start asking the same question: what’s the next step?

A home battery allows households to store the solar energy they generate during the day and use it later: in the evening when the sun goes down, or during peak pricing periods when grid electricity is most expensive. The idea is simple: store the power you produce and rely less on the grid.

Australians are being lulled into a false sense of security about threats of conflict, a coalition senator says, as he calls for more transparency on risks to defence.

In a major speech to the National Press Club on Tuesday, opposition defence spokesman James Paterson said military leadership and the government needed to be more forthcoming on looming dangers.

He said openness would allow the public to be more on board with rises in military spending in coming years.

New Bushmaster deal worth $750 million locks in Bendigo defence jobs

Home / New Bushmaster deal worth $750 million locks in Bendigo defence jobs

A new Bushmaster defence production deal will provide a seven-year $750 million boost to Bendigo and Brisbane’s defence industry.

The deal is part of a $1.2 billion spending package on armoured vehicles and will secure 300 jobs in Bendigo, Victoria, and Brisbane, Queensland.

The Defence Department says the French-owned Thales Australia will build 268 Bushmasters for Australia at its Bendigo plant.

The Bushmaster has been sold to nine countries like New Zealand, Indonesia and Fiji, and Canberra has just approved a Dutch order for the vehicles.

The vehicles have also been given to Ukraine who are using it on the frontline in its war with Russia; more than 120 of the vehicles are said to have been given to the Ukraine armed forces.

SpaceX: How to buy before the IPO

It’s possible to get in on SpaceX (SPAX.PVT) before its initial public offering (IPO), but there are risks, trade-offs, and heavy fees.

The upcoming SpaceX IPO could happen as early as this June, with a potentially massive 30% retail allocation, with underwriters of major trading platforms providing retail investors with allocations post-IPO.

But for those who want in a little sooner, it's a little complicated.

The most direct route to SpaceX stock before an IPO is through a private secondary market. These are transactions in which existing shareholders — employees, early investors, or former contractors — sell their vested stock to new buyers. SpaceX does not issue new shares in these deals; investors buy from existing shareholders.

SpaceX lays out IPO details, targets early June roadshow: Reuters

SpaceX outlined details of its highly anticipated IPO at a meeting with its team of bankers Monday night, telling them it plans to earmark a large portion of shares for retail investors and will host 1,500 of them at an event in June following the IPO roadshow launch, according to two people familiar with the matter.

"Retail is going to be a critical part of this and a bigger part than any IPO in history," Chief Financial Officer Bret Johnsen said during the virtual meeting, the two people said, asking not to be identified because the discussion was private.

Johnsen said the large retail component is by design as "those are folks that have been incredibly supportive of us and of Elon (Musk) for a long time, and we want to make sure that we recognize that."

Better Crypto Buy: Bitcoin or a Bitcoin ETF?

It's a decision that could have a huge impact on your overall returns.

If you want to invest in Bitcoin (BTC 0.23%), you have two options: the cryptocurrency itself or a Bitcoin ETF. The SEC approved the first group of Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, and they've accumulated over $90 billion in assets under management (AUM) as of March 20, 2026.

Each has its advantages and disadvantages. The right choice depends on how much control you want over your cryptocurrency and your investment time horizon.

Cryptocurrency purists usually prefer buying Bitcoin directly because they own the actual coins, unlike with a Bitcoin ETF. You also get slightly better returns by avoiding ETF management fees. The best Bitcoin ETFs charge between 0.15% and 0.25% per year, or $1.50 to $2.50 for every $1,000 invested. It's not too costly, but it's a small drag on performance you won't have if you buy Bitcoin itself.

Better Crypto Buy: Bitcoin or a Bitcoin ETF?

Buying Bitcoin means you're in full control of your cryptocurrency, and you avoid the annual fees that Bitcoin ETFs charge.

But you could lower your crypto tax bill by investing in Bitcoin ETFs through a Roth IRA.

If you want to invest in Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), you have two options: the cryptocurrency itself or a Bitcoin ETF. The SEC approved the first group of Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, and they've accumulated over $90 billion in assets under management (AUM) as of March 20, 2026.

MicroStrategy Is Down 56.9% YTD, Yet Still Buying Bitcoin by the Billions

A popular Reddit investment, Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR) has lost 56.9% of its value, recently trading near $138, yet continues to buy bitcoin at a pace that has made it the largest U.S. equity issuer for two consecutive years. Reddit's composite sentiment score sits at 28 out of 100, firmly bearish, with debate concentrated in derivatives communities. The central question: can the company's "BTC Yield" metric, which measures bitcoin per-diluted-share growth, outpace the dilution required to generate it?

Strategy's FY2025 BTC Yield came in at 22.8%, meaning each share represents more bitcoin than a year ago, however, the company's own target was 30%. More importantly, the firm raised $25.3 billion in capital during 2025 and now holds 713,502 BTC. The cost: a 52.6% expansion in share count in 2025 alone, from roughly 192.5 million to nearly 294 million shares, all while Q4 produced a $12.44 billion net loss driven by a $17.44 billion unrealized loss on digital assets as bitcoin prices fell late in the year.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — If you bought a Powerball ticket in Kentucky last year, now is the time to double-check it.

Five winning Powerball tickets sold in Kentucky during two billion-dollar jackpot runs in 2025 remain unclaimed, and lottery officials say time is running out for some winners to come forward.

According to the Kentucky Lottery, 34 large-prize winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide during the two historic jackpot runs, totaling $6.75 million. While most winners have already claimed their prizes, five tickets, worth between $50,000 and $100,000, remain unclaimed.

Lottery officials say the following large prizes from those jackpot runs are still unclaimed:

Winners must claim their prizes in person at Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville. Lottery officials say winners have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prizes.
