Supercomputer Predicts Premier League Table As Man City Suffer First Loss

Aston Villa finally did it. Not only is Unai Emery’s team the first in the Premier League to beat Manchester City this season, they are the first to even take points from them.

Enzo Maresca’s City had been perfect through seven rounds of matches, even with the guilty verdict hanging over the club since the September-October international break.

Yet a sloppy performance at Villa Park, with Gianluigi Donnarumma and Marc Guéhi particularly poor, was punished by on-loan striker Nicolas Jackson. Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki also thwarted City with six saves over the 90 minutes.

City remain top of the current Premier League standings, but it was the first sign of any domestic weakness this season. Taking to the pitch shortly afterwards, Arsenal drew level on points with their greatest rival at the top of the table, held in second place only on goal difference.

Good ball from Levi Colwill straight through the middle and Pedro Neto makes a great run once again, but his first touch is poor and just pushes it straight to Antonín Kinsky.

You can see the disappointment in Maddison's body language and whether you're a Tottenham fan or not, he makes a game brighter, and that is a real shame.

James Maddison looks understandably dejected as he makes his way off the pitch. He is replaced by Conor Gallagher, loud boos greeting his arrival from the home fans.

Lonergan backs Meredith for further success, quick learnings after ‘big hit’ to confidence from All Blacks series

After an unbeaten five match streak to the Les Kiss era, the Wallabies crashed back to earth with a thud over the last fortnight – and it’s a thud that Ryan Lonergan expects the side to learn quickly from.

The Wallabies found themselves on the receiving end of back-to-back losses to the All Blacks, with the second half in Auckland and the first half in Sydney seeing Dave Rennie’s men take the Bledisloe Cup series by the scruff of the neck.

Can Nets ‘shock the world?’ Is that really possible?!?

While NBA pundits and others, including fans of the New York Knicks, either ignore the Brooklyn Nets or alternatively dismiss any chances of success, the players and their coaches legitimately believe they can, as Julius Randle said, “shock the world.” Some might roll their eyes at that prediction or the more specific one that Brooklyn can win 50 games this season and think it’s ill-conceived optimism at best, maybe a casual comment at the least. It is not. It’s the driving force, the mantra, for the youngest roster in the NBA at 24.3 years of age. They believe it!

Now that Las Vegas sportsbooks put their season win total at 24.5, only four more than last season, and ESPN predicted they’d win 18 games, two fewer than last season, the reporters who cover the team day in and day out have their opportunity. The New York Post’s Brian Lewis and the New York Daily News’s C.J. Holmes published their season previews this weekend, the Post as part of a 20-page NBA supplement dominated by their take on whether Jalen Brunson and his Knicks can repeat. We should have ND’s annual reporter’s roundtable ready to go before Wednesday night’s opener at Barclays Center.

Can DC blend horror with a superhero movie? ‘Clayface’ wants to blur genres | ‘Clayface’ gets…

Explore the latest developments concerning Can DC blend.

'Clayface' gets under the skin of the superhero genre

Superhero cinema has flirted with the grotesque before, but rarely with the level of blood-soaked commitment seen in "Clayface", DC Studios' new film from the Batman universe.

At a time when the superhero genre is struggling to excite audiences, DC's shape-shifting Batman supervillain aims for something uniquely visceral.

"I don't want just clockwork scares, jump scares, I don't want mechanical scares, I want scares that get under people's skin," British director James Watkins told AFP.

"Body horror is possibly one of the most relatable scares, because we all have fears for what can go wrong with our bodies."

Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries, 36, who plays rising film star Matt Hagen whose face is horrifically disfigured by a mob boss and sets out to wreak revenge, sees the character as a natural fit for the genre.

'I can get back to my best': Ridley banking on Cats' track record to revive career

Jordan Ridley is banking on Geelong getting his body right after a frustrating run with injuries

INJURY-PLAGUED defender Jordan Ridley has crossed from Essendon to Geelong and has high hopes the Cats can get his body right after just 26 games across the past three seasons.

After being denied a trade last year, 27-year-old Ridley got his wish for a fresh start after Essendon and Geelong agreed to a deal on Wednesday.

Geelong gave up utility Jack Bowes, a 2027 first-round pick and 2028 second-round pick to acquire Ridley.

Ridley, who was signed with Essendon until the end of 2029, arrives at the Cattery after a torrid run with injuries in recent season.

You can now buy Target products through Uber Eats

Target shoppers can now shop fashion, beauty, homewares, toys and baby items via Uber Eats – and with delivery expected within 60 minutes.

The brand is the first Aussie fashion apparel retailer to join the online food and grocery delivery platform, with customers able to shop more than 25,000 products through the app from today.

Just imagine: all those last-minute Book Week costumes and fashion dilemmas, solved in an hour with the tap of a finger.

The first phase of the partnership is launching through 20 selected Target stores in high-demand areas, and it will be expanded to additional stores next year.

The products available through the app will be the same price as in-store, with Uber Eats service and delivery fees also applying.

Kmart waits as Target launches on Uber Eats after Bunnings deal in retail wars with Amazon

Australians can now purchase items from Target via the Uber Eats app, with delivery expected within a 60-minute window. It's a move that will allow customers to access more than 25,000 products from fashion, home and everyday essentials.

The launch makes Target the first fashion retailer in Australia to join the online delivery platform, with other retailers such as Bunnings and Coles already available. Target says it's a partnership that will connect the convenience of digital shopping with its own extensive store network, to give customers "more choice".

In February, Wesfarmers which owns Bunnings, Kmart and Target, announced the hardware giant was joining forces with the popular delivery app as local retailers compete with the growing presence of US tech giant Amazon.

How can governments re-organize themselves to be AI-enabled? Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has more of his own brand of 'helpful' suggestions to share

As the US and China governments prepare to sit down together in Washington and the wider question of AI policy very much in the mainstream, the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change has staged another of its policy interventions, replete with yet another Blairite blandishment:

The question leaders should be asking themselves is not whether AI is a good thing or a bad thing. Rather, it is simply the thing.

OK, if we can get past the essential triteness of that soundbite, what are the implications for political leaders? The Institute, the mouthpiece of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, has what it thinks is the answer:

Tony Blair warns leaders to resist growing AI ‘techlash’

Tony Blair has warned governments against bowing to a growing “techlash” over AI, arguing that slowing adoption could leave countries poorer and less secure as concerns over the technology mount.

A report from the Tony Blair Institute (TBI), published on Monday, said political leaders in the US and UK were facing growing pressure to hold back AI but warned that “doing less” may carry significant long-term costs for economic growth and national security. It lands after a bruising fortnight for an industry more accustomed to selling the upside of AI than debating whether it could kill its customers.

Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon sparked a new wave of concern this month after quitting the company and warning that developers were “gambling with our lives”, while Anthropic boss Dario Amodei and OpenAI chief Sam Altman have since backed calls to “pace” development at the frontier.

‘Can never say we’re done’: WiseTech signals more AI job losses are coming

WiseTech Global will cut more jobs as artificial intelligence takes over more of its work, chief executive Zubin Appoo has flagged, and he says the cuts will not stop when the current program ends.

“We can never say that we’re done,” Appoo said on Wednesday, hours after the embattled logistics software company posted an 11 per cent fall in annual profit and its shares dropped more than 7 per cent.

About 1200 of the 2000 roles announced in February have gone. Appoo said most of the rest would come from exiting large parts of the professional services arm of e2open, the US company WiseTech bought last year for $US3.2 billion, and shifting that work to partner firms.

WiseTech chief stands by pricing shift, redundancies as profit slides

WiseTech Global chief executive Zubin Appoo has stood by a controversial decision to shake up the way it charges customers as he confirmed 1700 jobs cuts have now been made under an AI-driven cost-saving program announced earlier this year.

An Australian technology company has stood behind cutting 1700 jobs in favour of artificial intelligence, as it raked in record annual revenue.

Logistics software provider WiseTech Global's total income surged 79 per cent to $US1.4 billion ($A19.5 billion) in the year to June 30, supported by its buyout of Texas-headquartered supply chain player e2open.

The acquisition helped deliver $64 million in annualised operating profit savings, while its artificial intelligence transformation had cut $34 million from the balance sheet, chief executive Zubin Appoo said.
