Alan Carr reveals plans to move into Scottish castle and open it to locals

The comedian said he is ready to 'sell up' and move to the Scottish Borders after buying his £3.25m castle

Alan Carr has said he is ready to “sell up” and move into his castle in the Scottish Borders.

The Traitors star officially entered his “turret era” after buying a £3.25 million castle earlier this year and is now set to become a Scottish baron.

The comedian who managed to lie his way to the final of the Celebrity Traitors splashed out on the A-listed Ayton Castle, described as one of Scotland’s finest baronial mansions.

The 49-year-old’s search for a property and life after purchasing a historic castle will be documented through a series on Disney+.

Alan Carr to become a baron after buying Scottish castle: ‘I’m getting my own tartan’

Alan Carr will be back in the turret of a Scottish castle this year – but he’ll be swapping out his Celebrity Traitors cloak for something a little more regal.

The comedian, 49, has confirmed that he’s set to become a Scottish baron after buying Ayton Castle ahead of his new Disney+ series, Castle Man.

Carr shot to national treasure status last year after winning BBC One’s Celebrity Traitors, deceiving fellow finalists Nick Mohammed and David Olusoga into thinking that he was a Faithful before taking £87,500 for his chosen charity, Neuroblastoma UK.

Inspired by his time at Celebrity Traitors location Ardross Castle, Carr bought a 19th-century stately home in Scotland’s Ayton – which comes with its own barony title.

Bob Carr: ‘I really thought repeatedly, “Bob, the joke is on you”’

The former NSW premier and Australian foreign minister on losing the love of his life, and figuring out how to go on

Walking with Bob Carr is highly apposite. His new book begins with him wandering Sydney’s night-time streets for kilometres in a trance of grief after the death of his beloved wife, Helena.

“You become what I call ‘memory struck’ in your bereaved condition. Knocked sideways. Unabashed nostalgia, I think, becomes part of the approach to life that a bereaved person takes,” says Carr, the New South Wales Labor premier for a decade until 2005 with Helena ever by his side – publicly, privately.

Former NSW premier Bob Carr lost his wife, Helena, in a Vienna hotel room in October 2023. The aneurysm that claimed her struck like lightning and in less than 30 minutes his partner of 50 years was gone: "And then everything changed forever and my life splintered down the middle, into all the years before this moment and the years since." Back in Australia, Carr was "cracked". He walked Sydney's streets late at night, wept copiously and tried to adapt. And, ever the elegant diarist, he turned to the pen. This is Carr's meditation on grief and "the leftover life".

    Bob Carr: Bring Back Yesterday

Carr will take to the stage to discuss the state of Australian politics, global affairs and his new book Bring Back Yesterday, a moving reflection on the loss of his wife.

Hailed as 'a memoir of raw and extraordinary power' by journalist David Marr, Bring Back Yesterday tells the story of Bob Carr's 50-year partnership with his beloved wife Helena and how he coped after her unexpected passing in 2023.

Carr joins The Fifth Estate host Sally Warhaft to share the wisdom forged through unspeakable loss and to reflect on the state of Australia – and the world – during these troubled times.

Telltale sign Amanda Holden already knew Alan Carr did well on Celebrity Traitors

Shrewd Amanda Holden knew Alan Carr did well on The Celebrity Traitors before he told her — because she didn't hear from him for two weeks.

The Britain's Got Talent judge sussed her close friend's success when Alan, 49, did not call her during the production of the show. The comedian usually rings Amanda every day so the actress quickly became suspicious during the spring, when filming took place at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands.

Alan went on to win The Celebrity Traitors but, though he wasn't allowed to tell anyone, Amanda, 54, had a hunch he at least "did well" on the programme. Speaking yesterday, she said: "I knew he must have done well because I didn't speak to him for two weeks, normally we speak every day.

From Alan Carr to a revenge-hungry daughter: who is the Secret Traitor?

Here are the wildest theories about who is beneath the red cloak. Brace yourself for handwriting analysis, Jekyll and Hyde vibes and crucial slips of the tongue

It’s the question on everyone’s lips. No, not “Why am I half a stone heavier and in dire need of an afternoon nap?” but “Who is the Secret Traitor?” And thankfully, we’re about to find out.

The curveball new role has proved a gamechanging twist in BBC mega hit The Traitors. Swishing around Ardross Castle in a red cloak, as opposed to the Traitors’ familiar green, the Secret Traitor’s identity is unknown to contestants and viewers alike. It hasn’t just stoked paranoia in the Traitors’ turret but enabled the audience to play along at home, turning us all into armchair sleuths as we try to crack the case.

'Secret traitor' revealed in dramatic uncloaking on The Traitors

The identity of the "secret traitor" has been revealed on the latest episode of The Traitors, with Fiona joining Stephen and Rachel in the castle turret.

The secret traitor, who wore a red cloak, had been operating in plain sight since being selected by presenter Claudia Winkleman in the opening episode of the BBC One series.

She had been given certain powers, such as compiling the shortlist of players the other three traitors were allowed to murder and her uncloaking follows last week's banishment of the first traitor, when Hugo was voted out at the round table.

Wednesday's episode also saw psychologist Ellie reveal she was Ross's girlfriend, as he became the third player to be banished.
