Burning questions as Barossa bound Tigers battle Giants

The AFL world has descended on Adelaide for the annual Gather Round, with Richmond scheduled to face the GWS Giants in the Barossa Valley on Sunday afternoon.

As the Tigers search for their first win of the season, here are some burning questions which could determine the result of the game.

While the Giants have had an uneven start to the campaign, winning just one of their opening four games, they have an identifiable brand of football that the Tigers will aim to slow down on Sunday.

As discussed on Talking Tigers this week, GWS ranks number one in the AFL for disposals and number three for handballs, while they also use the corridor the second most in the league coming out of defensive 50.

Cats and Dockers chase first wins of 2026. LIVE from 4.15pm AEDT

GEELONG hosts Fremantle at GMHBA Stadium in the second game of the afternoon.

The Cats entered the season under a cloud with Patrick Dangerfield and Jeremy Cameron sidelined, but their worst fears were quickly realised when they were blown away by Gold Coast inside a half.

Geelong is as aware as any club that the season is a long haul but it will be out to avoid beginning their campaign with a 0-2 start for just the third time in more than two decades.

Fremantle is widely tipped to be on the rise after a slow and steady list build that now has it boasting top-tier talent across all lines, even while it is still to prove its credentials with only one finals win in the past decade.

FOLLOW LIVE: Dockers open season against Cats

Fremantle got off to a false start last year against Geelong. Can they find some redemption and lay down an early marker to show they are serious contenders this year?

Judd McVee will make his club debut, while the Cats have called on some big reinforcements in Patrick Dangerfield and Jeremy Cameron after their Opening Round flop.

The Coleman medallist gets his first look as the Cats work the ball up the far boundary, and Bailey Smith’s floating kick finds Cameron as he converts from 35m.

But this is all on Caleb Serong as he brilliantly keeps the ball alive in the pocket as he finds space where there shouldn’t be any.

Chris Scott | Round 1 Press Conference Takeaways

Cats coach Chris Scott fronted the media on Friday ahead of the Geelong's clash with Fremantle at GMHBA Stadium

I wouldn't describe it as ugly, I would describe it as productive.

There are some learnings to come out of it, but I think we move forward pretty quickly.

We are focused on what our game looks like at its best, it wasn't in that game but we are optimistic that it can be in this one.

Senior Coach Chris Scott addressed the media in the lead up to our Round 1 clash with Fremantle. Proudly Presented by Morris.

He has had a great pre-season and he is the type of player, the type of ruckman in particular, that we haven't really played for a while.
