Hinkley: I think there's change coming at Carlton

How would Carlton and Michael Voss approach a hypothetical board meeting right now?

There generally tends to be a scheduled board meeting at this stage of the season at most clubs where the coach presents the true state of the team and its prospects.

Publicly and privately, now is the time for the coach to get a grasp on where their team is at.

Former Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley, who experienced countless of these board meetings, knows Voss very well having spent seven years together at Alberton.

Hinkley was asked by Gerard Whateley what he would arm himself with if he were Voss and entering such a board meeting a quarter of the way through the final year of his contract.

Key Carlton figures meet as pressure on Voss intensifies

Carlton's heavyweights caught up last week for a scheduled meeting to discuss the club's progress

CARLTON figures chief executive Graham Wright, football boss Chris Davies and coach Michael Voss met last week for a key internal meeting as pressure intensifies on Voss' future.

The scheduled meeting was part of a commitment between the three central figures to meet regularly during the season as the Blues embark on their 2026 campaign.

A range of topics are understood to have been broached as part of the discussion, including progress against KPIs and broader planning for the club's future, with Carlton's hierarchy maintaining a consistent position that they will make a decision on Voss' future later in the season.

    The Predicament Facing Michael Voss

A lot of hay and media attention has been made with the coaching future of Michael Voss. The current top man at the Carlton Football Club has been plagued with critics calling for his head, and unfortunately for Voss, his players aren’t giving him much of a defence.

The club he leads is currently submerged in the bottom four, a far cry from the finals that the team had set their sights on in previous years and with a clash against the old nemesis, Collingwood, looming, many are holding their breath as to what happens next.

The Board has ended up being Voss’ greatest defence, sticking by the beleaguered coach last year when it looked like almost a certainty that his time at the helm of his second club had come to an end. Instead of axing the coach, the Board went against its own fan base and publicly backed the coach. However, Voss’ performance hasn’t improved, prompting renewed calls from supporters to part ways with the coach, even this early in the season.

Ferran Torres & Pedri reveal brutal Hansi Flick punishment for Barcelona players who report late to team meetings

Barcelona stars Pedri and Ferran Torres have pulled back the curtain on the iron-fisted discipline currently ruling the dressing room at Camp Nou. Under the stewardship of German tactician Hansi Flick, the Catalan giants have undergone a significant cultural shift where every second counts. Flick, known for his meticulous attention to detail and unwavering standards, has reportedly made punctuality an unnegotiable requirement for his squad, viewing any delay as a slight against the entire collective effort.

The duo, who made a joint appearance on the popular Spanish television programme El Hormiguero, explained that Flick’s approach to tardiness has evolved this season. While previous infractions might have resulted in players being axed from the matchday squad, the German boss has shifted his focus toward a more financial deterrent. Flick has previously explained his stance, stating: "[Being late] is a lack of respect, not for me but for his teammates, the institution, and the fans. It’s not that difficult to arrive on time, this can’t happen and it has happened."

Mastercard unveils major AI shopping change coming for CBA, Westpac customers: 'Australia’s first'

Australians are one step closer to the option of having their online shopping be fully automated. Global payments giant Mastercard has announced it will expand its agentic payments technology to Australia.

The payments company has completed Australia’s first authenticated agentic transactions, which are transactions completed by an 'AI agent', using Commonwealth Bank and Westpac cards. Mastercard’s ‘Agent Pay’ technology, which was launched in the US last year, allows shoppers to ask an AI agent to search, find and buy items for them.

Mastercard Australasia’s head of customer solutions centre Surin Fernando told Yahoo Finance customers were already using AI agents and it was expected to become the norm in the future.

Aussie LLM Maincode powers Mastercard’s agent-led payments trial

Mastercard has completed Australia’s first fully authenticated agent-led transactions, using Australian LLM Maincode to do so.

The transactions form part of Mastercard’s global Agent Pay program, which brings AI agents into the payment flow as recognised and governed participants.

In practical terms, that means AI agents will be empowered to shop or book services on a customer’s behalf, while remaining visible to banks, merchants and payment networks.

For example, a user could instruct an agent to book flights or search for an outfit with particular parameters in place, such as price or size. The agent would then act on that customer’s behalf after searching the web.

The Danish toymaker that built a global empire on interlocking plastic bricks has unveiled what executives are calling the most significant evolution in its 93-year history: a tiny computer embedded inside a standard Lego brick.

Announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Lego Smart Play represents an eight-year, several-hundred-person development effort to add interactivity to physical toys without requiring screens, apps or complex set-up procedures.

“We introduced a step change to the Lego system of play,” Julia Goldin, Lego’s chief product and marketing officer, told this masthead. “We’re introducing a platform consisting of a smart brick, tags and interactive minifigures that fits seamlessly with the rest of the system, but provides an opportunity to bring a new dimension to play.”

On March 1st, 2026, The Lego Group will begin selling the most ambitious brick it’s ever made: a tiny computer that fits entirely inside a classic 2×4 Lego brick. When it detects NFC-equipped smart tags nearby, embedded inside new Lego tiles and new Lego minifigures, or when it sees other Smart Bricks, the company claims it will make entire Lego sets come to life — starting with the humming lightsabers, roaring engines, light-up blasters, and the music of Lego Star Wars.

Postmark change could impact getting ballots, bills in on time

The U.S. Postal Service is making new changes in 2026, including adjustments to the postmark process, which could result in late fees and penalties for anyone mailing time-sensitive documents such as tax returns or bill payments.

For decades, the postmark – an official mark that shows where and when mail was accepted by the Postal Service – has been used in law as proof that an individual met a deadline, such as submitting a ballot by Election Day.

A USPS postmark used to indicate the date when mail was dropped in a mailbox or submitted at the post office counter. Now, USPS is clarifying in a new rule that the postmark will reflect the date an envelope is first processed by an automated USPS sorting machine, potentially days after it was dropped off – not the actual drop-off date.

New postmark policy by USPS could cause issues for people

Changes by the United States Postal Services on how postmarks will be done could cause issues for some people in the coming year.

Postmarks for USPS previously involved official marks showcasing the date a person dropped off mail at the post office or in the mailbox.

A new rule established as of Dec. 24 requires postmarks to show the date an envelope is first processed by a USPS automated sorting machine at regional sorting facilities and not when it’s dropped off, which could reflect it being marked as late the following day or date.

Late fees and penalties could arise if a postmark pertaining to deadlines such as ballots, tax returns and more are mailed if the postage ends up being marked at a later date.

Australia Post reveals major change ahead of 'significant' $7 billion spike in demand

Australia Post customers can now expect to receive packages on any day of the week after the postal service has announced it has reintroduced temporary weekend deliveries from this Saturday.

The postal service has increased its deliveries ahead of Black Friday and the holiday season, with demand expected to surge. Australians are tipped to spend nearly $7 billion on the upcoming Black Friday sales.

Weekend deliveries will be available in all metropolitan capitals and certain regional cities and towns to help ensure that packages are delivered in a timely fashion over the festive period. Weekend deliveries will remain until Christmas.

Gary Starr, Australia Post's Executive General Manager Parcel, Post and eCommerce Services, said the business is expecting a "significant spike" in parcel volumes this week as Aussies flock to Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.

Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso called on FIFA to change the qualification process for the World Cup after the four-time world champions were left needing a 9-0 victory against Norway on Sunday to avoid a place in the European playoffs for the third successive qualifying campaign.

The Azzurri claimed a sixth win in seven Group I games with a 2-0 victory against Moldova in Chisinau on Thursday, but with group leaders Norway sitting on top with seven straight wins — including a 3-0 victory against the Italians — their vastly superior goal difference means Italy must beat Stale Solbakken's side by nine clear goals in Milan to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

The former AC Milan midfielder and current manager made the remarks during a recent interview, questioning FIFA’s qualification structure at a time when African football continues its upward trajectory on the world stage.
