    Police charge gang rapist who escaped from Sydney hospital

    On Wednesday, Michael Angok, 30, was being transported from Villawood Immigration Detention Centre to Bankstown Hospital where he escaped. (Supplied: NSW Police)

    Convicted gang rapist Michael Angok has been arrested and charged after escaping custody from Bankstown Hospital last week.

    Before his arrest, police "observed a pair of shoes" belonging to Angok outside a property and set up a crime scene.

    Angok was formally refused bail on Monday and the matter was adjourned to the Parramatta Local Court on June 4. 

    A convicted gang rapist who escaped from custody while at a hospital in Sydney's south-west has been arrested and charged after five days on the run.
