Live updates: IRGC intel chief killed as Iran and Israel trade deadly attacks; Trump escalates Hormuz threats ahead of deadline

BREAKING: Savannah Guthrie returns to ‘TODAY’ more than two months after her mother’s disappearance

The president pushed his ultimatum back again to tomorrow night and signaled optimism a deal to halt the war could be reached before then, his latest mixed messaging on the conflict.

Few places feel farther from the Iran war than the potato fields of eastern England, where pastoral landscapes and ancient forests have inspired romantic painters and poets for centuries.

But this bucolic scene is not immune from the shock waves triggered by the American-Israeli assault — and it’s a story being repeated across farms all over the world.

Iran war: Top intelligence chief killed in Israeli strike

Meanwhile, officials have said Iran and the US received a new ceasefire proposal, coming as US President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Iran's infrastructure if it doesn't reopen the Strait of Hormuz. More on DW.

Here are the main developments in the US-Israel war with Iran on Monday, April 6:

The bodies of four people missing after an Iranian missile strike hit an apartment building in the northern Israeli city of Haifa were recovered on Monday, rescue services said.

Ex-Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa is Alive; Viral Death Rumors debunked

ISLAMABAD – Several social media posts claiming that former Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has passed away, and these reports turned to be another propaganda.

Fact-checkers identified that an Indo-Afghan X account operating from Kabul has been spreading this misinformation, falsely reporting his death.

Sources said Bajwa, 65, is alive and in good health. The confusion appears to stem from a real incident in February 2026, when he suffered a fall in his bathroom at his Rawalpindi residence. He slipped in wee hours, sustaining head injuries that required hospitalization.

Bajwa was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), initially in the ICU, and underwent treatment for his injuries. Some reports mentioned hairline skull fractures or fainting caused by a heart block-related issue, but his condition was stable.

NRL chief says strong finances provide ‘flexibility’ in rights hunt

NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo says the sport’s most recent financial performance will give it flexibility in broadcast rights negotiations as he flagged ambitions to lock in a long-term deal by the end of the year.

The NRL broadcast rights are some of the most valuable in Australia, but they are not tied to any particular television network or streaming service beyond 2027. Abdo said he wanted financial certainty for the next decade and signalled he would also look to expand the NRL’s multimillion-dollar property portfolio to strengthen and diversify the balance sheet.

No.1 in Australia & the Pacific: Rugby League announces record results

The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) today released the NRL Annual Report 2025, confirming another record breaking year for Rugby League.

In 2025, Rugby League again confirmed its position as the biggest sport in Australia and the Pacific — with record audiences, record attendance, record participation and the strongest financial position in the game’s history.

ARLC Chairman Peter V’landys AM said 2025 was another landmark year that demonstrated Rugby League’s unrivalled strength across the region.

Microsoft's head of gaming, Phil Spencer, is leaving the software maker following a 38-year tenure, as the company's Xbox business faces increased challenges.

"Last year, Phil Spencer made the decision to retire from the company, and since then we've been talking about succession planning," Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella wrote in a memo to employees that was published on Friday. "I want to thank Phil for his extraordinary leadership and partnership."

Spencer's exit follows the departures of business development chief Chris Young and GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke in 2025. Charlie Bell, who had been Microsoft's most high-ranking security leader, switched to an individual contributor role earlier this month.
