Alana King has taken three wickets as Australia claimed a 43-run win over the West Indies in the first T20 in St Vincent.

King is hoping to get into Australia's T20 World Cup squad after being left out during this summer's T20s against India.

Australia currently holds a 1-0 lead in the three match series, with the second match commencing on Saturday morning at 9:30am (AEDT).

Alana King has staked her claim to be in Australia's T20 World Cup side, taking three wickets to help bowl her side to victory against the West Indies.

Aussies counting gains despite imperfect win: Mooney

Australia's win in the opening T20I against the West Indies saw them get off to a slow start in the powerplay and drop six catches

After a mixed introduction to St Vincent that saw moments of brilliance matched with others Australia might rather forget, Beth Mooney says there is plenty to draw upon as they reset for Saturday's second game.

Mooney was the star of Australia's batting innings, hitting a 55-ball 79 as she appeared the only batter to find rhythm on the Arnos Vale Stadium surface.

In a curious innings that saw Australia struggling at 2-57 at the midway point of their innings, Mooney alongside Ellyse Perry flipped the switch dramatically following the drinks break, piling on 84 runs from the next seven overs.

Spin wizard’s magical spell creates World Cup dilemma as sloppy Aussies spill SIX catches

Alana King’s impressive return to the national T20 side has created a selection dilemma ahead of Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign in the United Kingdom.

On Friday morning AEDT, Australia secured a comprehensive 43-run victory in the first T20 against the West Indies in St Vincent, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Chasing a 165-run target for victory at Arnos Vale Ground, the hosts could only manage 6-121 after King muzzled the top order in a probing spell of 3-14 from four overs.

After removing rival captain Hayley Matthews for 11, the leg-spinner dismissed both wicketkeeper Shemaine Campbelle and veteran Deandra Dottin in a game-changing double-wicket maiden, restricting the West Indies to 4-76 after 13 overs — and the Caribbean side never recovered.

Head rejects claim 'fully committed' Australia didn't care about T20 World Cup

Travis Head says Australia was "fully committed" to doing well at the T20 World Cup amid claims players do not care about the shortest format of the game.

Head said "we weren't good enough" when assessing the team's disappointing performance in Sri Lanka.

England, India, New Zealand and South Africa are the final four teams left in the tournament and will face off in semifinals beginning March 4.

Travis Head has hit back at the public narrative suggesting Australia's cricketers failed at the T20 World Cup because they do not care as much for the format.

All the Sheffield Shield squads for round nine

Several members of Australia's T20 squad return to their states as the race to face the Victoria in the final heats up

Travis Head leads the star inclusions for round nine of the Sheffield Shield season as members of Australia's T20 squad return to domestic cricket following their early exit from the T20 World Cup.

Josh Inglis, Cooper Connolly (both Western Australia), Matthew Renshaw (Queensland), Matthew Kuhnemann (Tasmania) and Sean Abbott (NSW) will join Head in turning out for their respective states from Thursday this week.

Head's South Australia are locked in a tight tussle with Queensland in the race to face Victoria in the Shield final later this month.

McGrath: Finding the next generation of quicks is Australia's 'biggest challenge'

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

Australia's biggest challenge in the near future is to identify their next-gen fast bowlers and groom them for international cricket, former fast bowler Glenn McGrath has said.

In the absence of Mitchell Starc, who had retired from T20Is last year, and the injured pair of Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, Australia crashed out of the group stage in the 2026 T20 World Cup.

"You look at the quicks that the Australian team used against England," McGrath said at the MRF Pace foundation ground in Chennai. "Scotty Boland, Michael Neser, Jhye Richardson – they've been around the game a long time, so you're not replacing older guys with younger guys. So the next generation is going to be interesting."

Sri Lanka claim maiden T20I series win over West Indies

Sri Lanka Women rounded off their first-ever T20I series victory against West Indies with an emphatic nine-wicket win in Grenada on Tuesday, March 3. One-nil down, the hosts had an opportunity to level the series at best, after the first game fell prey to rain, but suffered from yet another poor batting display.

It was Sri Lanka’s first bilateral series win against West Indies in seven attempts. Perera was adjudged the Player of the Match, while Chamari Athapaththu bagged the Player of the Series award.

Brief Scores: West Indies 119/5 in 20 overs (Chinelle Henry 32*, Deandra Dottin 28, Inoka Ranaweera 2-16, Sugandika Kumari 2-32) lost to Sri Lanka 121/1 in 17.4 overs (Hasini Perera 52*, Imesha Dulani 34*, Afy Fletcher 1-14) by nine wickets.

West Indies 218 for 4 (Matthews 100, Taylor 38, Henry 32*, Madara 2-33) beat Sri Lanka 217 for 7 (Samarawickrama 70, Dilhari 45*, Matthews 2-33, Ramharack 2-39) by six wickets

Hayley Matthews' tenth ODI century led West Indies to a six-wicket victory in the final match of the series against Sri Lanka and gave them their first points in the new Women's Championship cycle.

Sri Lanka had already secured the series but couldn't clinch a whitewash as Matthews dominated: she started the match by removing opposite number Chamari Athapaththu in the first over of the contest and then compiled an 118-ball hundred, which took West Indies most of the way in their chase.
