    US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the US is advancing its operation inside Iran, saying "the amount of firepower over Iran and over Tehran is about to surge dramatically".

    Israel meanwhile has threatened further strikes in Lebanon, pulling its northern neighbour deeper into the widening conflict.

    US President Donald Trump has reportedly said he needs to be personally involved in the selection of Iran's next leader, dismissing the likely successor — the son of the slain supreme leader — as "unacceptable".

    The United States is "accelerating" its attacks on Iran, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said, while US President Donald Trump claims Iranian officials have tried to "make a deal".

    The Israeli military announced a “new stage” in its campaign against Iran, with US and Israeli officials hinting at escalating strikes. The IDF said it has “additional surprising moves” as part of this new phase, without elaborating, while US defence secretary Pete Hegseth announced that strikes on Iran will “surge dramatically”.

    The IDF claimed to have destroyed the underground bunker of the slain Iranian supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which it claims is still used by senior Iranian officials. The Israeli military said approximately 50 fighter jets dropped about 100 bombs at the site in Tehran, which it claimed spread across multiple streets and included “many entry points”. There was no immediate comment from Iran.

    The head of public relations at Iran’s ministry of health, Hossein Kermanpour, says 200 of those killed in the country during the war have been children.

    In a post on X, he said the youngest person injured was a four-month-old baby girl, and the oldest was a 94-year-old woman.

    “Among all mortalities 200 are under 18 years old and 6 are under 5 years old,” he said.

    Kermanpour said there were 2000 injured people in hospital, and their injuries included head trauma, severe burns, fractures and amputations.

    The number of people killed by Israeli strikes in Lebanon since Monday has risen to 217, with another 798 wounded, Lebanon’s health ministry said.

    Fowler claims French teammate gave her bananas instead of flowers

    Mary Fowler has revealed she experienced racism from a teammate during her time with French club Montpellier.

    Fowler said she and Dutch teammate Ashleigh Weerden were given bananas instead of flowers at a presentation for departing players in 2022.

    The 22-year old also lived with depression and self-harm and considered retirement during her two-year stint with the club.

    Matildas star Mary Fowler has outlined the racism she experienced while playing for French club Montpellier, in her new memoir Bloom.

    Fowler joined the French club in 2020 as a 17-year-old and left for Manchester City two years later, and in her book details how she and her friend Ashleigh Weerden were treated after their final home game for the club.
