‘That was frustrating’: Roos young gun, Clarko lift lid on spay in ‘fired up’ moment

North Melbourne young gun Colby McKercher has revealed that Alastair Clarkson’s spray at him in the Good Friday win over Carlton was due to a defensive lapse.

But McKercher says the fiery three-quarter time address came from a place of care as the pair “hugged it out” after the epic comeback win.

The Kangaroos trailed Carlton by 22 points at the final change when Clarkson went off at McKercher in an animated moment caught on camera including a whack to his chest.

Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell has admitted the prospect of Toby Greene playing for the Hawks would be enticing after the club was urged to target the star Giants skipper.

Hawks coach responds to Cornes’ Toby Greene suggestion

Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell admits he would love Toby Greene at his club.

But he fully understands the reality of the situation in attempting to lure a star captain away from his current club.

Last week, SEN’s Kane Cornes floated the potential for the Hawks to bring 32-year-old Greene, who is out of contract at season’s end, back to Melbourne for a last tilt at a flag

“You'll continually be on the hunt to improve your list and you like to dodge these questions, but I think Toby Greene is a nice option for free in terms of not giving up anything for him – a couple of years left, I think he serves a purpose for you,” Cornes said.

    Talay Denies Speaking To Wanderers

Sydney FC Head Coach Ufuk Talay has denied he has spoken with A-League rivals Western Sydney Wanderers amid speculation he’s set to sign for the Parramatta club on a long term deal.

Talay, who’s coached the Sky Blues since 2023, says his main priority is leading the club to silverware this season and any reports on his future are speculation.

“My sole focus is on our last six games,” he said.

“No conversations have happened, so the reality is, this is what makes the game go around.

“Speculation and rumours are the best part of it, I’m an off-contract coach at the end of the season, but my focus is to finish well here.

Bodycam footage has revealed other young AFL footballers were with Hawthorn players Dylan Moore and Connor Macdonald when they were arrested on a cherry picker during a night out in the US over the off season.

The videos, released to this masthead by the Scottsdale Police Department on Tuesday, show Moore and Macdonald initially claimed they didn’t know the boom lift they climbed wasn’t theirs when police confronted them in the Arizona city.

“You’re under arrest for trespassing because it’s not your property,” a police officer tells the pair.

'We don't know the rules': Police body cam vision shows arrest of Hawks players in US

Newly released body cam footage shows Hawks stars Dylan Moore and Connor Macdonald being arrested in the US as their Australian friends plead for leniency from arresting officers.

The players were arrested for climbing on a cherry-picker last November on a a night out, during a team trip to Phoenix, Arizona in the USA.

A police report stated Moore had a small bag containing a crystal substance and a rolled $100 bill in his possession at the time of the arrest.

He told officers it did not belong to him and was not charged over the substance.

In the vision, police on bicycles approach the players as they climb into the cage of a scissor lift in a car park.

Coach rips ‘egregious injustice’ behind Cat’s secretive 12-month absence — AFL Daily

Geelong coach Chris Scott is ready to welcome back Tanner Bruhn following a “egregious injustice” last year.

Bruhn missed the entire 2025 season while facing sexual assault chargers that were eventually dropped in November after a witness admitted to lying about the evidence.

The 23-year old made his unofficial return to the field in a new role across halfback in last week’s practice match against Carlton ahead of the Cats’ season-opening clash with Gold Coast on Friday night.

Scott backs Cat ahead of his first AFL game in 17 months

Tanner Bruhn is set to make his AFL return for the Cats

GEELONG'S Tanner Bruhn is set for his first AFL game in 17 months after missing the entire 2025 season while facing criminal charges, which were eventually dropped in November.

Bruhn was stood down by the AFL when charged in early 2025 with sexual assault offences and he did not play at any level after the Cats' practice match against Hawthorn on February 17 last year.

Prosecutors withdrew all the charges on November 11, and the 23-year-old immediately returned to full training with the Cats' AFL program, with the League confirming he was free to play.

Geelong coach Chris Scott has confirmed Tanner Bruhn will play his first AFL match in 17 months this weekend after missing all of last season due to police charges.

Bruhn was charged with rape and intentional sexual touching, before charges were dropped last November when a key witness admitted to lying.

Scott called the saga "one of the most egregious injustices I can think of in the game".

Geelong's Tanner Bruhn is set for his first AFL game in 17 months after suffering the "egregious" injustice of being accused of rape, his coach says.

Brumbies end 26-year hoodoo, Slipper scores in game 200

James Slipper has scored a rare try in his 200th game to help the ACT Brumbies end a 26-year hoodoo with a 50-24 win against the Crusaders in Christchurch.

Having scored just one try in the last two Super Rugby seasons, Slipper was a surprise scorer when he was on the receiving end of an Andy Muirhead offload in the 29th minute.

It was his 10th try in the competition since debuting for the Queensland Reds in 2010.

The five-pointer was the cherry on top for the former Wallaby, as he became the second player to reach the 200-game milestone.

He now sits just two matches behind former All Black Wyatt Crockett (202 matches) for most games played.

Crusaders vs. Brumbies Predictions – Super Rugby Week 2 2026

We have Crusaders vs. Brumbies predictions for the Super Rugby Week 2 game on Sunday, February 22 at 1:35pm at HBF Park in Perth.

It doesn’t get much better than the Crusaders vs. Brumbies rivalry, but all the money is with the Crusaders to win at $1.22.

If the Brumbies want to be a factor this Super Rugby season, they need to avoid getting blown out by teams like the Crusaders.

As they showed last week, they are good enough to run up big scores against their Australian counterparts, but when it comes to playing Kiwi teams, they can struggle to keep the flood gates closed.

Morocco Coach Sends Message to Real Madrid About Brahim Díaz Ahead of AFCON 2025 Final

Brahim Díaz has lost prominence under Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid, but his performances at AFCON 2025 have been outstanding. The midfielder is currently the tournament’s top scorer and could return to Madrid as African champion.

Ahead of the final against Senegal, Regragui made it clear that Brahim Díaz will return to Real Madrid with greater match rhythm and confidence, giving him the tools to compete for a bigger role.

“I’m happy that Brahim will return to Real Madrid with many more minutes and confident that he will compete to earn a place, but first he has to finish the job tomorrow, which is important for him and for us,” the coach explained.

Brahim Diaz has shown his class at AFCON – now Morocco's star forward deserves a bigger role at Real Madrid

Before heading off to represent Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations, Brahim Diaz thanked Real Madrid fans for all of their support in 2025 before adding, "See you all next year, full of excitement." However, the player and his club's supporters could not be experiencing more contrasting starts to 2026. While Brahim was bursting with joy after Morocco beat Nigeria on penalties on Wednesday to move just one win away from ending the nation's 50-year wait for a second AFCON title, Madridistas were exploding with rage after watching their team suffer a second demoralising defeat in five days.

What happens next at Real after the humiliating Copa del Rey exit at Albacete is anyone's guess, given their new rookie coach Alvaro Arbeloa unsurprisingly looks far less-equipped than esteemed predecessor Xabi Alonso to restore order at the Bernabeu, meaning it's very hard to predict that the long-term future holds for Brahim – or anyone else at the club for that matter.

Brahim Diaz closer to Africa Cup of Nations Golden Boot ahead of final

It is rare in Africa Cup of Nations history to see as many as five players still in contention for the tournament’s Golden Boot, providing an intriguing subplot ahead of this weekend’s final and third-place play-off.

Morocco’s Brahim Díaz leads the scoring charts with five goals from six matches for the hosts, where he has been a driving force in their run to Sunday’s final against Senegal in Rabat.

Behind on four goals each are Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Egypt captain Mohamed Salah, who missed the chance to take over at the top when they played in a 0-0 draw between their sides in Saturday’s third-place playoff.

Perth Glory Women's coach Stephen Peters has criticised a lack of investment in the women's A-League, calling for more funds.

In recent years, the Glory's women's side has been Perth's saving grace, as the men's team suffered back-to-back wooden-spoon finishes.

A new report has found the women's A-League is losing ground to global leagues and rival domestic sports despite strong international interest.

Perth Glory Women's coach Stephen Peters has criticised a lack of investment in the women's A-League, which he says has not reaped the benefits of the Matildas' success at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Women’s football in Australia reaches Rubicon moment with future vision revealed | Joey Lynch

The PFA’s new strategy ‘is not doom and gloom’, rather it hopes to serve as a springboard for investment and offer an opportunity to grow the game

In 2015, Elise Kellond-Knight was part of the Matildas squad that took history-making strike action, paving the way for a decade of increased investment that saw the team rise to prominence and Australia secure hosting rights for the 2023 Women’s World Cup and this year’s Women’s Asian Cup. Now, with that continental showpiece less than two months away, the retired midfielder sees the women’s game in Australia at another Rubicon moment, one requiring bold investment in the future of a fully professional A-League Women.
