Severe storms, heavy rain and rising flood risks are sweeping across southeast and central Australia as a deep low-pressure system powers east over the next three days.

Senior meteorologist David Crockett from the Bureau of Meteorology says the low will drive widespread rain and storms over the next three days as it tracks from SA into NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

Australia set to be drenched by storms stretching across the country’s south

Huge parts of southern Australia are set to be drenched this week, including already sodden areas that are at risk of flooding.

Weatherzone warned on Sunday “there’s a storm coming … and we all best be ready when she does”, saying the week of wet was a timely reminder of the storm season “right around the corner”.

“On Monday the low really kicks off with rain and storms across much of South Australia, parts of the Eyre and Yorke peninsulas and the Adelaide Hills could see locally heavy rain of 30 to 50 millimetres,” Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist David Crock said.

Follow all the action from Friday night's clash between Geelong and Gold Coast

GEELONG has been dealt a big blow an hour before its clash with Gold Coast on Friday night, with versatile mid Jack Bowes a late withdrawal.

The 28-year-old has been replaced in the side by George Stevens, who comes in for just his third AFL game and first of the season.

Bowes has been battling hamstring tightness and was seen undergoing a fitness test under the watchful eyes of medical staff in the hours before the game, but the Cats opted not to risk him for the clash at GMHBA Stadium.

Match Preview | White Out Game at the Cattery

The stage is set for an unmissable night at GMHBA Stadium, with the Cats set to take on the Gold Coast Suns

The White Out Game has arrived and the Cats are set for one of the biggest nights of the year, set to take on the Gold Coast Suns in a Friday night blockbuster at GMHBA Stadium.

It looms as an important game for Geelong two weeks out from their mid-season bye, as they look to bounce back after suffering consecutive defeats over the past two weeks.

The two sides met earlier in the year and the Suns prevailed on the Gold Coast, but the Cats hold a perfect 8-0 record against the visitors at Kardinia Park.

Live: Gold Coast edging tight start to crucial clash with Geelong

Geelong kicks seven-straight goals to take control of a crucial clash with Gold Coast, as Suns coach Damien Hardwick sees red.

Boos ring around Kardinia Park as Bailey Smith lays a terrific tackle on Matt Rowell, but isn't rewarded with a holding the ball free kick.

Smith dragged Rowell to ground after Rowell had tried to fend him off, and then Rowell was able to handball it away.

He got ample time to get rid of that one, he's a lucky man.

The Suns are able to proceed forward after Rowell's handball and Ben King takes an uncontested mark inside 50.

Man bites cop after being pulled from fiery car crash, police allege

A man accused of biting a police officer after a series of crashes in Sydney’s west, in which he had to be dragged from a burning car, has been banned from driving after being granted bail.

The trail of destruction, which ended with the Toyota SUV driven by Siosifa Tupou, 35, engulfed in flames, began with a crash into a Mercedes coupe on Hassall Street, Wetherill Park.

Tupou allegedly drove on, crashing into a second vehicle on The Horsley Drive, before hitting a parked car around the corner on Maugham Crescent about 11.20pm on Sunday.

Bystanders pulled Tupou from the burning vehicle. Police attending the scene were told of the previous crashes, while Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze. Both the other drivers were uninjured.

Weather to deliver Easter treat, but another cyclone looms next week

Easter weather is looking calm for many parts of the country, but another cyclone could develop next week. (ABC Rural: Sophie Johnson)

Australia has just been soaked by its third wettest February-March on record, but for most of the country, skies have cleared up just in time for Easter.

In fact, for the first time in months, the country will go through an entire week without any major weather events — no heatwaves, no floods, no cyclones, and only a handful of thunderstorms.

But while Easter weather is looking subdued, another severe tropical cyclone is expected to develop next week in the Coral Sea, and remarkably, it could follow a similar track to the epic journey taken by Cyclone Narelle.
