Electric vehicle purchases represented about one-sixth of new vehicle sales in April, industry data shows.

South Australia's RAA says now is the time to expand charging infrastructure to ensure it meets growing demand.

In SA's south-east, the Wattle Range Council is building chargers for its own fleet, as well as public use.

South Australia's peak motoring body is calling for an urgent expansion of charging infrastructure as electric vehicle interest booms in the wake of the fuel crisis.

Sales of EVs have surged this year, with data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries' VFACTS report showing EVs accounted for one in six new vehicles sold in April.

A Super El Niño Is Increasingly Likely, And It Could Be Record Strong

A super El Niño is increasingly likely later this year, and it could become record strong with potential global impacts on rainfall and temperatures from summer through winter, as well as the 2026 hurricane season.

The central and eastern equatorial Pacific waters continue a steady march toward El Niño following the La Niña that was in place since last summer.

You can see this in the animation from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center below. Note the warmer than average ocean water encroaching from both the east and west near the equator while the cool anomalies have faded since the middle of February.

What to know about the predictions for a potentially record-breaking El Nino

Seasonal models are predicting an El Nino climate pattern that could be the strongest on record, bringing with it more extreme weather.

“I think we’re going to see weather events that we’ve never seen in modern history before,” WFLA-TV Chief Meteorologist and Climate Specialist Jeff Berardelli, in Tampa, Florida, said Friday.

An El Nino event is expected to develop from the middle of this year, impacting global temperature and rainfall patterns, according to the World Meteorological Organization. While the models indicate that this may be a strong event, the WMO cautioned that the models also have a harder time making accurate forecasts in the spring.

Apple class action settlement could pay you money. See who's eligible

Some iPhone owners could be eligible for a payout from a class action lawsuit that Apple agreed to settle this week.

The tech giant has agreed to a $250 million settlement in a case that alleged it deceived consumers over artificial intelligence enhancements in new iPhones in 2024.

The lawsuit accused Apple of touting new AI technology, including Siri enhancements, while advertising the iPhone 16 at the time, but the device did not contain the elements when it was released, according to court filings.

Apple denied the allegations in the lawsuit. The company said in a statement to USA TODAY that it resolved the suit in an effort to continue "delivering the most innovative products and services to our users.”

Apple has reached a $250 million settlement over a class-action lawsuit filed over claims it misled customers regarding Siri’s AI capabilities.

The settlement covers approximately 37 million devices, including all iPhone 16 models and some iPhone 15 models. Customers who are eligible to file a claim will be notified via email or mail.

In March 2025, a California man named Peter Landsheft initially filed the lawsuit, claiming that Apple in 2024 “launched a pervasive marketing campaign across all media platforms to promote its latest iPhone 16 model, spotlighting what it branded as the groundbreaking ‘Apple Intelligence’ suite of features, including significant AI-driven enhancements to Siri.”

Apple to pay $250m to iPhone buyers over AI features lawsuit

Apple has agreed to pay some iPhone buyers a collective $250m (£184m) to end a lawsuit accusing the company of misleading people about new artificial intelligence (AI) features and capabilities.

In a settlement filed Tuesday in California federal court, Apple did not admit any wrongdoing, but agreed to a deal that will resolve claims in a large consolidated class action lawsuit filed last year.

It accused Apple of false advertising around its AI features on the iPhone, which the company called Apple Intelligence, including an enhancement of its Siri voice assistant.

Apple will pay between $25 and $95 to people in the US who bought an iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 between June 2024 and March 2025.

Could 'outstanding' Maeda's return to form give Celtic title edge?

Daizen Maeda has three goals in two games after going 18 matches without scoring

Daizen Maeda was back to his sensational, nuisance best as title-chasing Celtic dispatched Falkirk. Fans may well be wondering where this version of the Japan forward has been all season.

Prior to his first-minute opener against St Mirren in the Scottish Cup semi-final last week, Maeda had not scored since the start of January against Dundee United.

He has now netted three goals and assisted twice in six days, showing his worth to a Celtic side who are targeting a fifth successive league title.

Hearts and Rangers will play their latest part in the engrossing race on Sunday, but for now Celtic sit level on points with Derek McInnes' men and a point clear of Danny Rohl's.

Scottish Premiership: Celtic go level on points with Hearts at top of table

Martin O’Neill hailed Daizen Maeda’s return to form after the Japan international drove Celtic to a 3-1 win over Falkirk. The centre-forward scored twice and set up Kieran Tierney as the Hoops moved level on points with the Premiership leaders, Hearts. The first two goals were a direct result of Maeda closing down opponents and he finished smartly for the third after the substitute Kyrell Wilson had pulled a goal back.

Maeda had sent Celtic on their way to the Scottish Cup final last weekend by charging down a clearance from the St Mirren goalkeeper Ryan Mullen to net and he again showed the value of his work ethic.

If Wishes Could Kill Ending Explained: What's the Truth Behind Girigo's Curse? Does It End?

If Wishes Could Kill Ending Explained: This Netflix horror thriller limited series ends on a bittersweet note, showcasing the downsides of greed and desires. Although viewers are meant to believe that the curse is broken, some indications say otherwise. With emotions mixed in the tragedy, this is a story of haves and have-nots, as it showcases close friendships being destroyed thanks to resentment and insecurities.

The YA horror series has 8 episodes, each with a runtime of around 45 minutes.

Girigo isn’t just an app; it’s a doorway for a curse to exist that plays with the desires of those who make the wish. In episode 6, we see how Kwon Si-won and Do Hye-ryung’s relationship started to transform from innocence to something more terrifying, steeped in jealousy, resentment and revenge. As a result, a dangerous fight merges an unfinished curse into technology, resulting in lives being destroyed.

Full circle: Narrative could not be more fitting for Melksham

It is a milestone that some may have thought may not come when Melbourne veteran Jake Melksham started this season running around in the VFL for the Casey Demons.

But Melksham’s resilience and determination have never been in question, and despite being 34 as the Demons build a new gameplan around youth and breakneck speed, it hasn’t taken him long to force his way into new coach Steven King’s team.

And after starring against Gold Coast last week with five marks, four goals and a turn-back-the-clock screamer, his career comes full circle when he plays his 250th AFL match – fittingly against his former club Essendon at Gather Round.

Fresh off a four-goal game Jake Melksham refuses to look backwards on his long career

JAKE Melksham is relishing the fresh energy around Melbourne as his exuberant young teammates continue to confound the critics under new coach Steven King.

The Demons (3-1) are firing with King at the helm and will start favourites in Melksham's 250-game milestone when they take on his former club Essendon in Gather Round.

It comes after an off-season of upheaval shifted the focus towards the next wave of players who could lift Melbourne back into premiership contention.

"For the first time in a little while the youth and energy among the younger guys is outweighing that older, more experienced player," Melksham said.

Milestone man lauds young Dees’ energy

Melbourne veteran Jake Melksham believes the Dees' young group is invigorating and infectious for the seasoned player at the club.

Speaking on Tuesday at the MCG ahead of his 250th game in Gather Round, Melksham praised the energy that new coach Steven King has brought to Melbourne which has resulted in a 3-1 start to 2026.

"It's super energetic and when I look around when I'm out on the field and at training, for the first time in a long time, I think the youth and energy is outweighing the older, more experienced players and there are a lot of guys who have been on the fringe in previous years that are really providing value to our team," Melksham said.

Wael Sawan warns of pressure on diesel and petrol if strait of Hormuz does not reopen to oil and gas shipping

Europe could face a shortage of energy and fuel as soon as next month without a reopening of the strait of Hormuz, Shell’s chief executive has said.

The boss of Europe’s biggest oil company said it was working with governments to help them address the oil and gas supply crisis, which has already led to energy rationing in Asian countries.

Oil prices dipped back to about $100 a barrel on Wednesday from highs of about $114 at the start of the week, on the back of reports that the White House had sent a 15-point peace plan to Iran’s leaders.

The chief executive of Shell has warned that Europe could experience energy shortages before the end of April. He indicated that jet fuel supply has already tightened, with a potential diesel squeeze and tighter gasoline supply to follow as the continent approaches its peak summer demand period.

The executive explained that supply pressures initially affected South Asia before moving to Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, and increasingly into Europe. He emphasized that energy security is a fundamental component of national security. Europe's current difficulty stems from a lack of preparedness for global developments, leaving the region in a reactive position rather than building long-term resilience.

When and who McGregor could fight as comeback confirmed… and why this time it’s for real

Conor McGregor has confirmed he is set to return to the UFC, declaring “the rumours are true” as plans firm for a blockbuster comeback during July in Las Vegas.

The controversial Irish superstar, who has not fought since suffering a shocking leg break in 2021, says he is ready to “save fighting again” after completing his anti-doping ban.

Jon Anik: Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway rematch 'makes so much sense'

Max Holloway's wishes for a rematch against Conor McGregor have a good chance of being answered from the perspective of UFC commentator Jon Anik.

Longtime UFC lead play-by-play man Anik is awaiting news about the octagon return of former two-division champion McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC), who hasn't competed since breaking his leg in a trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

"The Notorious" nearly made his comeback in July 2024 against Michael Chandler, but pulled out of the fight on less than three weeks' notice with a toe injury. There's been spurts of momentum since then, but perhaps no more so than now, with McGregor recently declaring he's targeting UFC 329 on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Doncic and Nets forward Ziaire Williams were assessed double techs with 5:12 remaining in the third quarter after jostling with one another following an offensive foul called on Doncic.

Could Cyclone Narelle come as far south as Perth?

Tropical Cyclone Narelle has re-intensified over the Indian Ocean and is threatening to put Western Australia next on its hit list.

The question is when, and where it will make its crossing — and could it make a rare crossing as far south as Perth?

The destructive system has already made a mammoth — and somewhat unusual — journey across the top of Australia, hitting both Queensland and the Northern Territory.

A WA crossing would make it the first cyclone in more than 20 years to make three separate landfalls across the two states and a territory.

Here's what we know about how it's managed to sustain the strength to make such a long trek across Australia.

Tropical Cyclone Narelle was again intensifying into a severe storm off Western Australia’s Kimberley coast on Wednesday with communities in the state’s world heritage-listed Shark Bay preparing for a potential direct hit on Friday night.

Narelle had made a rare trip for a cyclone system by forming in the Coral Sea off Queensland and maintaining structure all the way west to the Indian Ocean, where it was expected to build into a major category four system.
