'Time to really crack the whip' in Belgium – Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari have steadily closed the gap to Mercedes and Kimi Antonelli over the last few rounds.

Lewis Hamilton believes "it's time to really crack the whip", as the Ferrari driver looks to further close the gap to Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli at the Belgian Grand Prix.

The seven-time World Champion enters this weekend just 32 points behind Antonelli in the Drivers' standings, and seven adrift of George Russell in P2, while Mercedes only lead Ferrari by 78 points in the Teams' Championship.

Hamilton and Ferrari have been able to close the gap over the last few weekends, which have yielded four podiums from the last five races, including Hamilton's first Grand Prix victory for the Scuderia in Barcelona.

Lewis Hamilton: Ferrari driver says Mercedes duo Kimi Antonelli and George Russell 'should be a lot further ahead' in title battle

Lewis Hamilton is just 32 points behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli; the seven-time champion has stayed in striking distance despite Ferrari rarely matching Mercedes' pace; watch Friday's practice sessions for the Belgian GP at 12.30pm and 4pm, live on Sky Sports F1

Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes pair Kimi Antonelli and George Russell "should be a lot further ahead" of him than they are in the Drivers' Championship.

Antonelli leads Russell by 25 points at the top of the standings with Ferrari's Hamilton just seven points further back than his former team-mate.

Mercedes have clearly had the fastest car for much of the season but have been hit by reliability issues, which along with a few other factors have allowed Hamilton to remain in striking distance as the season approaches its halfway stage.

Lewis Hamilton's attention is not on the F1 title – just yet.

Lewis Hamilton has declared that he is "not thinking" about winning the F1 championship as he praised Ferrari's "tight-knit" approach.

Hamilton is currently third in the drivers' standings after the British GP, and is 32 points behind Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes, and seven behind the sister W17 of George Russell, with five podiums in nine races, including a win in Barcelona.

The seven-time champion has previously stated that he does not intend to retire until he wins a record-breaking eighth crown, breaking the record he jointly holds with Michael Schumacher.

The first heatwave of the summer will reach its peak across New South Wales today, with temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius likely to span from Western Australia's north-west all the way to Parramatta.

The heatwave has also sparked an extreme fire danger warning for large parts of NSW.

But reprieve is around the corner — at least in NSW — with a cold front set to bring a cooler change by the end of the weekend.

It's the first taste of what's likely to be a hot summer for most of the country, according to the Bureau of Meteorology's long-range outlook.

More than a dozen homes have been destroyed near major urban centres after a fast-moving fire swept through bushland in extreme heatwave conditions.

Emergency warnings were issued for residents near fires on the NSW Central Coast and in the Hunter region on Saturday as 75 fires burned across the state.

At least 12 homes have been destroyed by a bushfire at Koolewong, not far from built-up areas on the Central Coast.
