Chad Wingard, Josh Gabelich and Nat Edwards discuss the stars from both sides declared ‘good to go’ for Hawthorn’s clash with Essendon, the tall Hawk proving rival clubs wrong and why teams should be wary of a smiling James Sicily.

The mark of the man: Teammates don't hold back for Newman's 150th

Three close mates of Nic Newman spoke about his milestone – and also got some revenge on Carlton’s No.24.

Nic Newman will play his 150th AFL game when Carlton takes on Gold Coast, a milestone for an individual who has very much had to do it the hard way.

A popular figure amongst all his teammates, the three-time Best Clubman has made a key impact during his time at IKON Park… but has also been more than willing to fire off some comments about his teammates along the way.

Three close mates sat down with Carlton Media this week to speak about the milestone – and also get some revenge on Carlton’s No.24.

Carlton’s milestone man has day cut short after soft tissue injury

Beloved Carlton clubman Nic Newman will take no further part in Carlton's crucial clash with the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday, succumbing to a hamstring injury very early in the contest.

It's a bitter blow for the defender, souring a day of celebration, as the former Swan took to an AFL field for the 150th time.

Newman has been among the Baggers' best this season, after the now-departed Michael Voss sorely missed him last season. Newman suffered a ruptured patella tendon injury in the 2025 pre-season, which cost him the entire campaign.

Saturday's match is underscored by its Wildcard Round implications, with Josh Fraser and Damien Hardwick's sides vying for a chance to feature in the game's showpiece month.

Cruel blow for Wests Tigers and Warriors as stars expected to miss rest of NRL season

Both the Wests Tigers and Warriors have been dealt major blows to their season with Taylan May and in-form halfback Tanah Boyd most likely having played their last game of 2026. The Tigers’ season has taken a huge turn in recent weeks having conceded more than 40 points in three straight NRL losses.

Injuries are mounting for Benji Marshall with the likes of Adam Doueihi and Samuela Fainu still out for a number of weeks. Jahream Bula is closing in on a return, but has been a major loss. Co-captain Api Koroisau is yet to return from his three game suspension.

And Marshall could be without their top centre for the remainder of the season with May set to undergo scans on his injured shoulder. May missed a number of games after round two due to his shoulder injury.

‘Deserve to cop it’: Benji’s honest admission as Tigers ‘in a hole’

Benji Marshall admitted the Tigers are “in a bit of a hole at the moment” after his understrength team crashed to a third-straight loss on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers were one of the early season surprise packets and built their success on a new-found defensive resilience under Marshall.

But injuries have tested the young squad in recent weeks, with the 46-18 loss to the Sea Eagles on Saturday being just the latest big scoreline put on the Tigers in the last month.
