NBA playoffs 2026: Stephen Curry, Warriors end Clippers' season after Sixers outlast Magic

In the 17th year of a Hall of Fame career, NBA teams are still wrestling with the question, “What do you do with Stephen Curry?”

The Los Angeles Clippers didn’t have a satisfactory answer Wednesday in the NBA play-in tournament, and now their season is over. The Warriors will advance to the next leg of the play-in after a 126-121 win and visit the Phoenix Suns on Friday.

Curry, who returned from a knee injury only 10 days ago, finished the game with 35 points despite a slow second half. That included the 3-pointer that gave the Warriors the lead for good in the final minute.

Warriors Sign Center Amid Frontcourt Uncertainty

The Golden State Warriors made a roster move Sunday, adding size to a frontcourt that has been stretched thin late in the season.

The Warriors are navigating multiple injuries in the frontcourt during the home stretch of the season and heading into the play-in.

A calf strain has limited veteran big man Al Horford, while Quinten Post is dealing with foot and ankle problems. Both will be out for at least one more week, per the Warriors PR account, leaving the Dubs searching for reliable depth up front.

It's reasonable for the Warriors to also plan for the long-term future, with Golden State potentially facing a significant offseason departure in that of future unrestricted free agent Kristaps Porzingis.

One of Dell Curry’s sons returns for Warriors tonight vs Jazz

Seth Curry returns to Golden State tonight. And the Warriors’ inconsistent shooting corps just got a pulse.

There’s something poetic about this. Steph Curry, the greatest shooter in NBA history, is watching from the bench while his little brother Seth laces up for the Golden State Warriors tonight against the Utah Jazz. Three months removed from a left sciatic nerve issue that’s kept him sidelined since December 4th, Seth Curry makes his return for what is technically his third appearance in a Warriors uniform this season.

Two sons of Dell Curry. One family legacy built on the art of putting the ball through the net.

Seth Curry To Return Monday For Warriors

Veteran guard Seth Curry will be active for Monday’s matchup at Utah, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr confirmed before the game (Twitter link via Nick Friedell of The Athletic).

Curry has been out for a little over three months due to sciatic nerve irritation (sciatica) on his left side. He has been upgraded to available on tonight’s injury report after previously being listed as probable.

A 12-year veteran, Curry has been limited to two games with Golden State since he re-signed with the club on December 1. The 35-year-old spent training camp and the preseason with the Warriors but was waived ahead of the 2025/26 regular season because his veteran’s minimum salary couldn’t fit under the team’s second-apron hard cap at the time.

Why Warriors should be extra careful bringing Steph Curry back from knee injury

With the Warriors three months into a 2025-26 NBA season now certain to land far short of their expectations, there should be zero doubt about how to proceed with Stephen Curry’s tender right knee.

With our All Access Daily newsletter, stay in the game with the latest updates on your beloved Bay Area and California sports teams!

“I think there's a good chance that he doesn't play ‘til after the break,” coach Steve Kerr told reporters Saturday before the Warriors and Lakers tipped off in Los Angeles.

That’s prudent. Curry has hobbled through various levels of discomfort since banging his right knee in November. He took another blow on Jan. 30 that so aggravated it he was forced from the game. He was diagnosed with “runner’s knee,” which generally requires at least three weeks to subside.

Hornets retiring Dell Curry's jersey in March ceremony

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

The Charlotte Hornets are retiring Dell Curry's No. 30 jersey in the home arena rafters March 19 against the Orlando Magic.

Curry, the 1994 Sixth Man of the Year for Charlotte, ranks second in career points scored (9,839) in Hornets history. Curry spent 10 of his 16 NBA seasons in Charlotte (1988-98) and currently serves as a Hornets team ambassador as well as television analyst.

"I never imagined it would happen," Curry said. "It means so much to me. I do it because it's what I love to do. The game gave me so much, the fans gave me so much and I want to stay involved just to give back what I can and make this organization what it should be and give the fans, the team and the broadcast and the show that it's fun, we're having a great time and come celebrate, come support. … Man, it would be an injustice to try to put into words what this means."

Stephen Curry celebrates 'dream come true' after retirement decision

Stephen Curry called it a “dream come true,” but the moment wasn’t about his own future on the court.

Instead, it was about honoring the man who laid the foundation for everything that followed, as the Charlotte Hornets prepare to retire Dell Curry’s No. 30 jersey this March.

Speaking after the announcement, Stephen, who recently detailed the sad part of his life that NBA fans don't see, reflected on what the honor means for his family and for a city that has long been intertwined with the Curry name. “It is a dream come true for the whole Curry family,” the Warriors star said. “Curry and Charlotte are kind of synonymous, and ‘The Originator Dell Curry’ had a lot to do with that. So, blessed that 30 is gonna be immortalized in the rafters.”

Dell Curry’s jersey number will be enshrined in the Spectrum Center rafters.

The former Hornets guard turned broadcaster’s No. 30 will be officially retired on March 19, a decision the organization kept secret until releasing a video of the reveal. Curry’s reactions were authentic.

“I never expected it,” he said, “so, I just acted naturally. It means a lot. … Overwhelmed is a good word, but it is hard to put into words what this truly means. It’s not just a representation of me, but the fans, my family, my teammates and coaches. Everybody gets a piece of this.”
