Dietitians agree — cut back on 1 thing for better gut health, energy, and lower risk of cancer

Diet advice is rarely one-size-fits-all. But one particular vice — enjoyed daily by more than half of Americans — has become the bane of health experts.

Dietitians really, really want us to step away from the sugary soda.

At a recent nutrition conference in Washington, DC, with more than 3,000 professionals, I asked around about what we should all be eating more of. While everyone had a different answer, nearly all agreed on what to avoid: cutting back on sugary drinks is a simple way to improve your health.

The dietitians (and doctors and researchers) I spoke with had a long list of reasons you should consider swapping out soda, from blood sugar crashes to potential links to increased cancer risk.

What Happens to Your Body When You Stop Eating Sugar Completely

Researchers reported contrasting findings on sugar reduction versus elimination, underscoring potential health trade-offs relevant to diet advice.Evidence cited includes rapid improvements in type 2 diabetes risk and focus when cutting back sugar, without adopting a zero-sugar diet.A study in teens with fatty liver disease showed gains on a low-sugar plan, while scientists warn that gut health may be affected by complete sucrose removal. At ENDO 2026, a mouse study found worse blood sugar control, more inflammation, and early fatty liver on a sucrose‑free, low‑fat diet, pending human trials.Harvard epidemiologist Walter Willett and decades of UK Biobank data also inform the picture, including lower adult diabetes risk among people gestated during wartime sugar rationing and later-onset cases with prolonged low exposure.

What Happens When You Stop Eating Added Sugar for 30 Days

An explainer outlines how a 30‑day break from added sugar can produce measurable changes across skin, liver, heart, and blood sugar systems, and why that matters. It clarifies what counts as added sugar versus natural sugars in fruit and dairy, and notes a low sugar diet was linked in a 2021 study to a 10.5 percent reduction in the liver's fat‑production process over eight weeks. Research cited connects higher sugar intake with increased triglycerides, LDL cholesterol, and blood pressure, alongside American Heart Association limits. Registered dietitian Natalie Rizzo reports links to skin inflammation, with individual results varying. Scope remains a month without cutting fruit or dairy.

Morocco Loses Ez Abde and Aguerd Ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026

The Moroccan national team received a harsh blow on the eve of the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This Thursday, it was officially confirmed that Ez Abde will not be able to participate in the World Cup due to a sprain in the ligament of his right knee, an injury sustained in the friendly match against Norway.

Initially, the coaching staff had decided to keep him on the call-up list in the hope that he could be available for the knockout stages. However, the latest medical tests revealed a more complex situation; the Real Betis winger will have to undergo an estimated recovery period of four to six weeks, which leaves him with no chance of participating in the tournament.

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic says it has been ordered by the US government to suspend foreigners' access to some of its advanced AI models.

The US government restrictions cite national security concerns over the AI models Fable 5 and Mythos 5.

The news comes a day after a coalition of US state attorneys-general opened a sweeping investigation into OpenAI.

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has taken its most advanced AI models offline after it was ordered by the US government to suspend access for all foreign nationals.

Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI suspended over security fears

Anthropic has suspended its powerful new AI model after US authorities raised security concerns just days following its public release.

In a statement published on its website, Anthropic said it was ordered to suspend foreign nationals from using Claude Fable 5, a program that the company self-described as "too powerful".

"The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance," the company wrote.

Anthropic and the Trump administration are involved in a separate ongoing lawsuit over an order to stop government agencies using the company's AI tools. The BBC has approached the US Department of Commerce for comment.

18 Jokes Cut From ‘The Roast of Kevin Hart,’ From His Sex Tape to Vegas Cheating Scandal

On Sunday night, TV viewers could opt for the latest distressing episode of HBO’s “Euphoria,” or a lighter affair on Netflix in “The Roast of Kevin Hart,” wherein a motley crew of celebs punched down — literally — at the diminutive star live from the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

With roastmaster Shane Gillis presiding over the chucklefest, the evening saw retired NFL quarterback and FTX victim Tom Brady get revenge on Hart for the jabs he received during the hugely popular “Roast of Tom Brady” two years ago.

“All right, this won’t take long, because, as you guys know, I’m a busy man,” cracked Brady. “But I do have a few words for you before I return to my affairs in Las Vegas. Oh, wait, I’m talking about affairs in Las Vegas. Was that off? Not supposed to talk about affairs in Vegas? I think I broke another rule. Fuck it. I talked about it.” (Brady was referring to Hart’s admission that he’d cheated on his then-pregnant wife in Vegas back in 2017.)

The Kevin Hart Roast Was Proof that Celebrity Roasts are Cooked

The concept of mocking public figures dates back to ancient times, but the modern, structured celebrity roast originated as a way for entertainers to pay tribute to one another through insults. The Friars Club started roasting notable members of its showbiz fraternity in 1950 and kept it up for over 60 years; in 1973, Dean Martin started doing Friars-style roast segments on his weekly TV variety show, which led to a series of boozy specials that ran for ten years. The 21st-century roast was born in 2003, when roastmaster Jeff Garlin led a raunchy tribute to Denis Leary that became the most-watched show in Comedy Central history. The network began to produce many more roasts, of everyone from Joan Rivers to Larry the Cable Guy, then got out of the game in 2019, after an installment (hosted by future podcast millionaire Sean Hayes) that aimed the slings and arrows at Alec Baldwin.

KPMG plans to cut hundreds of jobs in UK auditing division

London | KPMG is cutting close to 600 UK jobs as the big four accountancy firm struggles to reduce costs amid a harsher market.

Staff were told on a hastily convened call that KPMG would axe about 440 assistant manager roles in the firm’s audit business, out of a total of 590 roles that are “at risk” within the division, according to people familiar with the matter.

KPMG Layoffs: Company Set To Cut Up to 440 Audit Roles in UK Amid Consulting Slowdown and Digital Shifts

London, March 30: KPMG UK has announced plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 440 roles within its audit practice, marking a significant restructuring for the "Big Four" accounting firm. The decision comes as the professional services sector faces a cooling demand for consulting and advisory work, coupled with a broader effort to streamline operations and enhance long-term profitability.

The proposed layoffs represent roughly 6% of the firm's UK audit staff, which currently totals more than 7,000 employees. While the audit sector has traditionally been seen as a stable revenue driver, the firm has indicated that the current economic climate and internal performance targets necessitate a "right-sizing" of the department to maintain a competitive edge. Tech Layoffs 2026: Meta, Amazon, and Epic Games Slash Workforce Amid Strategic Industry Realignments.
