    Patrick Dangerfield has polled his first coaches votes in the 2026 season, receiving six votes for his inspirational display in Adelaide on Thursday night. 

    The Cats skipper was instrumental early in an incredible start, collecting 13 disposals and five clearances to go with a goal and a goal assist in the first quarter alone. 

    Spending more time in the midfield, he would ultimately finish with 30 disposals, seven clearances and seven score involvements, a brilliant performance from Dangerfield in his 370th AFL game. 

    Sam De Koning was thrust into the ruck and performed brilliantly against the Crows, receiving four votes from the coaches after an influential display for the Cats.

    GEELONG has been dealt a big blow an hour before its clash with Gold Coast on Friday night, with versatile mid Jack Bowes a late withdrawal.

    The 28-year-old has been replaced in the side by George Stevens, who comes in for just his third AFL game and first of the season.

    Bowes has been battling hamstring tightness and was seen undergoing a fitness test under the watchful eyes of medical staff in the hours before the game, but the Cats opted not to risk him for the clash at GMHBA Stadium.

    Holmes from the backline and Smith forward of centre had more disposals and metres gained than any other Cat on the field in Geelong’s dominant 45-point victory, 15.15 (105) to 8.12 (60), which was the Cats’ sixth win from all six games at GMHBA Stadium so far this season.

    A former member of Oscar Piastri’s inner circle has been called up to help his rival and Formula 1 title favourite George Russell ahead of Sunday’s race because of travel issues caused by the war in the Middle East, while ongoing mechanical problems threatened to derail Aston Martin’s Australian Grand Prix.

    On a dramatic Friday at Albert Park, Piastri completed a sizzling second practice session to clock the fastest lap for the day, and Aston Martin design guru Adrian Newey revealed his team arrived at the Australian Grand Prix with just two usable batteries.
