    Messi dealt one final blow as Golden Boot farce exposed

    Kylian Mbappe has capped off a stellar World Cup by claiming his second Golden Boot award.

    The French sensation finished with 10 goals for the tournament, two clear of Lionel Messi, who was unable to close the gap in Argentina’s 1-0 loss to Spain in a tense tournament final.

    He is the first ever player to claim a second Golden Boot, having previously won the award at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

    Messi was well held by some miserly Spanish defending as Argentina remarkably finished with just three shots for the match – all of them coming deep into the second half of extra time.

    Kylian Mbappe has moved past Lionel Messi for the career World Cup scoring record with 22 goals, netting twice for France in a 6-4 loss to England in the third-placed play-off match.

    Mbappe finished this World Cup with 10 goals, two more than Messi in the race for the Golden Boot, which is awarded to the tournament's top scorer. Should he remain ahead of Messi after Argentina play Spain in Sunday's (5am Monday AEST) final, he would become the first player to win the Golden Boot twice.

    Arsenal dealt significant blow as Bukayo Saka pulls up injured & has to be replaced in Gunners' starting XI shortly before kick-off against Leeds

    Bukayo Saka appears to have picked up an injury in Arsenal's pre-match warm-up before facing Leeds United. The winger joined his team-mates on the Elland Road pitch prior to the 3pm kick-off but went down the tunnel early. Gunners winger Noni Madueke went on to replace him in the line-up in a huge blow for Mikel Arteta's Premier League title-chasing side.

    According to ESPN journalist James Olley, Saka picked up an injury during the warm-up, a good 15 minutes before kick-off on Saturday. Summer signing Madueke took his place in the starting XI. BBC Sport also confirmed that the 24-year-old England international is out of the Leeds encounter, with Saka walking down the tunnel with a physio. It has been reported that the winger was struggling with an issue with his hip, with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hoping that he will not remain sidelined for too long. Saka was also set to be Arsenal's captain for this game, but Gabriel Magalhaes took over the armband for the match.

    Bukayo Saka injury update: Why is Arsenal star not playing vs. Leeds?

    Arsenal managed to secure a 4-0 win over Leeds without the services of star winger Bukayo Saka on Sat, Jan. 31.

    Saka was named in the starting lineup at Elland Road, but was a late scratch after suffering an injury during warm-ups. The 24-year-old was replaced in the lineup by Noni Madueke.

    Madueke made a major impact in the first half at Elland Road, assisting Martín Zubimendi's opening goal before forcing an own goal with his corner kick delivery.
