Corey Parker declares the season of heavyweight club is over

Brisbane Broncos legend Corey Parker has declared the Melbourne Storm cannot win the NRL premiership after their heavy defeat to the Penrith Panthers on Good Friday.

It was a brutal display which saw the Panthers dismantle the Storm in a 50-10 thrashing, with history to suggest that it officially rules the Storm out of the title race.

When speaking on Channel 7's Agenda Setters: Rugby League, Parker was adamant that a red line should be crossed through the Storm, who have historically always crept deep into the finals series every year.

“The Sharks' season is done, as is the Dolphins, as is Craig Bellamy's Storm", Parker said on the panel.

Put through a brutal training session on the back of their record-setting loss, Cameron Munster says Melbourne need to copy the aggressive mindset of Penrith to get their season back on track.

Coach Craig Bellamy has threatened personnel changes following the Storm's 50-10 drubbing by Penrith – the first time they conceded a half-century in more than 20 years.

Pakistan has bombed major cities in Afghanistan, including the capital Kabul.

The Pakistani defence minister declared the neighbours were at "open war" following months of clashes.

Islamabad says Pakistani Taliban leaders operate from Afghan territory and use it as a safe haven to plan attacks inside Pakistan, a charge the Afghan Taliban denies.

Pakistan has carried out air strikes in Kabul and two other Afghan provinces, according to a spokesperson for Afghanistan's government.

The strikes came early on Friday, local time, hours after Afghanistan launched a cross-border attack on Pakistan, in the latest escalation of violence between the neighbouring countries that has made a Qatar-mediated ceasefire appear increasingly shaky.

Escalation of violence between the volatile neighbours makes a Qatar-mediated ceasefire appear increasingly shaky

Pakistan bombed Afghanistan’s capital of Kabul and two other provinces on Friday, hours after a cross-border attack, the latest escalation of violence between the volatile neighbours who signed a Qatar-mediated ceasefire in 2025.

Following months of tit-for-tat clashes, Afghan forces attacked Pakistani border troops on Thursday night in what the Taliban government said was retaliation for earlier deadly air strikes.

Hours later, at least three explosions were heard in Kabul on Friday morning, but there was no immediate information on the exact location of the strikes in the Afghan capital, or of any potential casualties.

Afghanistan launches attacks against Pakistan, draws ‘immediate response’

Afghanistan says ‘large-scale offensive operations’ launched; Pakistan reports inflicting ‘heavy casualties’ in border clashes.

Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities say they have launched attacks against Pakistan’s military positions along their border in response to Pakistani air strikes last week, as Pakistan said its forces had retaliated.

The media office of Afghanistan’s military corps in the east said in a statement that “heavy clashes” began late on Thursday “in response to the recent air strikes carried out by Pakistani forces in Nangarhar and Paktia” provinces.

“In response ‌to repeated provocations and violations by Pakistani military circles, large-scale offensive operations have been launched against Pakistani military positions and installations along the Durand Line,” Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid wrote in a post on X.
